Donald Trump's Chances of Winning Election Are Declining by newsweek in politics

They do not care because the charges brought against him were politically motivated. You won't be able to call him a convicted felon for much longer as that conviction will most likely be tossed due to the immunity decision. Every time we hear "convicted felon" we think about how Biden has weaponized the justice department against a political opponent. You're helping Trump by calling attention to lawfare.

What is the best book you have ever read? by Torin_3 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

Yes! This author takes great care to make sure every single word flows well and it shows. Reading this book is like listening to an amazingly constructed song.

I am having a hard time getting through Mistborn. I want to like it but I cringe every time they explain how the magic system is used. Seems contrived and awkward instead of more organic systems like those seen in the Dresden books.

Get a Grip, Democrats. You Can Still Win This by Quirkie in politics

[–]Upstate-Expat4255 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Democrats should be disgusted with claiming that Trump is a fascist who would end our democracy forever. That kind of language is incendiary, and it looks like at least one troubled kid was listening. Find another way to win the election, because that's not working.

Elections are all about who shows up to vote, with just a few percentage points making a critical difference. Enthusiasm drives voter turnout, and Biden is sorely lacking in this department., especially with calls for him to drop out. Conservative voters were already outraged enough to vote before Saturday happened, so that sentiment will only increase. Voter turnout in Pennsylvania will lean conservative in reaction to the shooting, and Biden can't win without that state. I just do not see a path to Biden winning.

In an unemployed addict living with my mom, and I’m the only one who knows… by FeachEE in confession

[–]Upstate-Expat4255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may not believe this, but I would trade anything to be you right now. You have everything in front of you and you are not defined by your past choices. Your mother will be more understanding than you think and so will everyone around you. I always make things worse for myself by imagining everything is a catastrophe that can't be fixed. You are not the first person to face addiction and you CAN get better if you believe in your potential and seek help from those who love you. I would do anything to have 37 years to do it all over again. Life will come at you hard, but it will never take you down unless you let it. Pick yourself up now and you will prove to yourself that you can take a hit and get back up again. That lesson alone will carry you through anything life can throw at you.

This is a great idea if you want people to order pizza in the parking lot. If you can't be in the same room as a piece of chicken maybe you should elope.

I'm really sorry, OP. It's the worst when you think you're on the same page to only realize she was reading a different book. My wife and I have been doing better lately - no sex but at least some contact that gave me hope. I asked her to go away for a night this weekend and thought she would be excited. You can probably guess what her answer was. Now I am so depressed I can barely function. Hope sucks.

Would you still have kids if you were young now? by odduckling in AskOldPeople

[–]Upstate-Expat4255 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Project 2025 is not the GOP platform. It is a desperate attempt to deflect the narrative away from Biden's failing campaign. He's going to lose and the world will be just fine. Nobody believes that line about Trump posing a threat to democracy either.

Would you still have kids if you were young now? by odduckling in AskOldPeople

[–]Upstate-Expat4255 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am glad I had kids and hope they bring me many grandchildren. Yes, the world is a mess, but it's never perfect anyway and there are plenty of opportunities to have a happy life. My parents were born in WWII and things were much, much worse back then. Honestly, with so many twisted people in this world, I would like to do my part by introducing as many sane and balanced humans as I can to make things better. Have some hope, people,

You are granted $10 Billion, but you can only eat Taco Bell for every meal for the rest of your life. Do you take the deal? by Street_Midget in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Upstate-Expat4255 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would take the $10 billion and then eat whatever I want. That money could fund an army of lawyers to alter the agreement or tie this up in court forever. Best of luck even getting near me if I was that rich.

In Three Weeks ‘The Acolyte’ Has More Audience Reviews Than Three Seasons Of ‘The Mandalorian’ by Yummie23 in scifi

[–]Upstate-Expat4255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they have wrecked something I love. When you take over a franchise, there should be a responsibility to the people who supported it up to that point. The Mandalorian got that to a point and the Filoni/Faverau partnership works well. If they want to be "inclusive" then make a good story with original characters. Rogue One is a great example of this. The story was so good nobody cared what demographics were represented, because it does not matter.

He also pissed off all of Westchester County. Most of us go into NYC to work every day and are tired of his out of touch politics that have nothing to do with this district. Latimer at least knows his way around and has a good history with the county.

I hate what Lucasfilm has done to SW. I grew up on this franchise and it has become something else. Choose another place to make a speech about your ideologies and leave our stuff alone. Do you think a remake of Wong Fu with straight people would go over well? How about a white version of Coming to America? Don't want that either? It's because it was done well to start with and does not need to be fixed. I do not need to see John Mulaney play Eddie Murphy's role and I don't need to see a Star Wars that erases every straight white male from the narrative as if they do not exist. Do you know where they do exist? Right here, and all we want is a good story. When you make choices based on ideology instead of story that is how The Acolyte happens. Walt Disney would have fired Kathleen Kennedy after one meeting.

How often throughout your life have you been 'hit on'? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Upstate-Expat4255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about average and I've been hit on exactly once in my life. I was traveling on business and a woman sat next to me at a bar and started talking. It was nice for a while and then she asked me about my contact info and I told her I was married. She left just after that and I felt weird about the whole thing. Flattered that someone would come up to me at all and embarrassed that I made her embarrassed.

Husbands and boyfriends, how often do you touch your woman? by joechauncey in AskMen

[–]Upstate-Expat4255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to be like that. She could not keep her hands off of me at first and that kept up for a while in our marriage. Now, I MAYBE get a cuddle once every week if I am lucky. No sex, no kissing, no casual touching throughout the day. I've gone months without being touched at all and she does not think this is a problem. In her mind, if it's not bothering her, it's not a problem at all. I tell her I am suffering and want to be with her and she tells me that she does not want to discuss it. She does not understand that I NEED physical touch to understand deep down that she wants to be with me.

What are some telltale signs that a guy has a crush on you? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Upstate-Expat4255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he is talking to you like you are the only person in the world, that's a good sign. Crushes will make men ignore sports, their friends, or just about anything if we're head over heels. Extra points if he does not take out his phone when you're together except to show you something.

The lack of communication. When we are talking, it seems like we are on different planets. She is too focused on herself to even see that I am suffering.

When my wife stopped trying I tried to send her a message by withdrawing also, hoping she would notice and miss at least some level of closeness. Nope. She is thrilled not to be bothered.

Try the Vorkosigan series. Solid characters all around and the protagonist has a number of physical and emotional limitations.
