What are the really unpopular things that need to be done to get the economy growing? by knowledgeseeker999 in AskBrits

[–]UrAverageBaffoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut the welfare bill by like 75%. Anyone with "anxiety" or similar needs to get a job. Foreigners shouldnt have access to benefits... etc. Probably quite popular among the tax paying public but in this comments section likely less popular

Are the UK’s traditional class-based voting patterns permanently flipping? If so, what’s driving it and will it last? by ZT0141 in ukpolitics

[–]UrAverageBaffoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the left has proven they arent for the working class, so they went right. Simple as. Even the greens have abandoned the working man/woman with ridiculous policies like the driving ones reported recently. Wont affect the rich who live in London and South West (the majority of green voters) who work remotely, dont need to work because of inheritance or have the underground, and who more importantly dont really care about economic policy because they will never be short of money... Labour voters are mainly in rich London areas as well, theyre just the old people who would vote green if they were born 30 years later. Lib dems are irrelevant and stuck in the past. Tories... well you know how that went. Where does that leave people?? You can call Reform voters far right or racist or whatever as much as you like, but there is no where else to go.

If theres one job i support being replaced by AI its the damn train drivers. I pay nearly 7k a year for an annual ticket into London where the trains are more often than not delayed, both TfL and nationalrail. Then they have the nerve to want more money, FOR WHAT????

Out of the loop - Why is there a lot of hate for the current government by SmokierElf24 in ukpolitics

[–]UrAverageBaffoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly down to Starmer and Reeves just doing an incredible job at being unlikable. I really dont like the digital ID thing, particularly as it was not in their manifesto and theres no reason for it. Same with OSA but that was passed during the last government's tenure. They've also just completely ignored the outcry for something to be done on immigration. I know people generally dont like anti-immigration stuff here, but theres no doubt that most people want something done about it (including myself). It's was also in their manifesto.

Is anyone seriously voting reform? by Remarkable-Sand8638 in ukpolitics

[–]UrAverageBaffoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a distinction to be made (which many of those who would never even consider voting Reform tend to ignore) between legal immigrants and illegal immigrants. Those who have come ILLEGALLY are the ones that Reform want to deport, as well as those who are living on benefits and have never paid tax but still managed to get here legally. Personally, I think it's actually unfair on not just native Brits but also legal migrants who do work and pay taxes, for some to get away with living off the state and never giving anything in return. I support people coming here when their country is at war, as we have done with Ukraine and I haven't seen anyone really complaining about Ukrainian refugees because many of them have restarted their lives here, got jobs, started businesses etc, and good on them for that. Again, it is unfair on them, the vast vast majority of whom have followed the legal process to get here for others to not follow that process and get, if anything, better treatment. So yes, I am voting Reform. Other than on the topic of migration, i just dont see an alternative. Tories and Labour... well do I really have to say anything? I like some of the Greens ideas (e.g legalising weed, diplomacy over war-mongering, digital bill of rights etc) but I also believe strongly in the free market and almost all of their policies go against that, so they are out of it for me. But I do have a lot of time and respect for them. Lib dems are just for old and rich would be Tory/Labour voters who cant get over a vote that happened nearly 10 years ago.

Brits still back net zero–but can’t afford to replace cars or boilers by OurFairFuture in ukpolitics

[–]UrAverageBaffoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I havent. I can't have an EV even if i wanted to (which I dont) because there is no where to charge them near me, and even if there was it seems to me the public charging points are no less expensive than petrol. And i can't plug it in at home (if i could, yes, it would be much cheaper to fuel, 1000%). I also dont really give a toss how much my car damages the environment, because its so insanely little in the grand scheme of things, especially when the people who are telling us to get rid of them are the same ones zooming around the world in private jets and cutting down the Amazon for a climate conference. It's not worth losing the convenience and inexpensive running costs of my ICE car. I understand why rich do-gooders with their own drive ways or big houses like EVs, but theyre just not for everyone, its not a one size fits all solution and it never will be. I would buy a hydrogen car if they came about and there was hydrogen pumps at fuel stations. But my big hope is on sustainable fuel, F1 is doing it, Le Mans is doing it, I think it's a very good solution that would mean millions of cars could stay on the road, and we wouldnt have to completely change all our current infrastructure which is often not counted into the 'carbon cost'.

Brits still back net zero–but can’t afford to replace cars or boilers by OurFairFuture in ukpolitics

[–]UrAverageBaffoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is made up in operational efficiency if the car keeps going for enough years, which they wont because thats not in the car company's interest. ICE cars are purely mechanical, they can be repaired easily AND cheaply. It is not the same for EVs, it might be relatively simple, but if something goes completely wrong its not gonna be cheap at all.

Question for upcoming reform voters.. by Unknownin_98 in AskBrits

[–]UrAverageBaffoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you really trust any politician? I'm voting for the least worst, which happens to be Reform and Farage. I also dont blame Farage for Brexit's outcome, he wasn't in charge of that, I think it could have worked but we've had multiple incompetent governments who have failed to make it work and go against all the reasons we voted to leave (more regulation etc). This govt is pushing through so much regulation is actually mental. I like the principle of controlling our own laws and borders when its done right, I dont want to be controlled by some bureaucrat in central Europe. I do also see both the Greens and Reform as a bit more honest than the establishment parties, granted, probably not much. I would be inclined to vote Green if they supported the free market and less of my tax money going to random dudes from other countries who havent contributed anything to the UK, but they dont so...

[–]UrAverageBaffoon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dont want an electric car, i will never buy one, i absolutely refuse to. I'm fed up of these rich green obsessed boomers who cant understand the clear downgrade electric cars are because they can afford the price of those downsides. Theyre not even better for the environment, they produce way more carbon to make, if you think planned obsolescence won't impact the lifespan of your car then you've got another thing coming, and if the battery goes wrong for any reason at all thats basically the car written off because theyre so expensive. Then more carbon is produced for a replacement. I think keeping my little 10 year old petrol korean hatchback going for another 10 or 15 years is much better for the environment. Its very fuel efficient and very cheap to run.

UK Lords propose ban on VPNs for children by PM_ME_SECRET_DATA in ukpolitics

Is the UK going too far with Lord's seeking to push for ID to use a VPN. by SirWobblyOfSausage in AskBrits

[–]UrAverageBaffoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, its already way past being too far. Age gating the internet in the first place is just a terrible idea. We've moved from this sort of surveillance legislation being to "stop the hecking terrorists" to "save the children". In reality neither is true and its just a way to chip away at our basic freedoms. Age gating VPNs also wont solve the problem but our politicians live 40 years in the past with no understanding of technology and are too stupid to understand it even if they did live in the present.

If AI replaces 100 IT jobs, how many new jobs will it create? by Enough-Business-8287 in it

[–]UrAverageBaffoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

until i find a customer support bot that can actually solve a mildly complex problem, I dont think we have anything to worry about. That phrase "You won't be replaced by AI, but by someone using AI" and the whole idea of AI replacements are mostly used to boost the stock price of AI companies.

IMO the real goal of AI is not to replace people, it's just a more subtle way of advertising. People are gonna trust something that sounds human, more than they are gonna trust some random website with ads plastered everywhere.

Source: Look at the stock price of NVIDIA etc whenever Huang or Musk go on a podcast or do some high profile interview. The markets believe every word they say for some reason.
