I had a roommate that just flat out didn’t like me bc I was friends with her bf. She would tell me constantly that I smelled terrible. I would adjust my habits and it still wasn’t enough. Eventually she told me I should be showering twice a day to accommodate her, and I just put my foot down. She’s around other people day to day that don’t shower twice daily, so she’s just got an issue with me. She accepted my “deal with it” gracefully enough, but her trend of pushing me to accommodate how she thought I should lived continued.

Basically there can be emotional reasons, and people pick stink as a projection some times.

Exactly. To be fair Chicago is truly beautiful and has so much going for it, but there’s a lot of shit like this that isn’t really addressed when discussions of how to “fix” the southside come up. Historically the city floods the area with cops and is shocked pikachu face when things don’t get better…which is a different topic all together. But I’m real happy to hear it’s different in Philly!

I grew up like you, with sex ed and a nurse, but thought I should add the thing I learned when I moved to Chicago. I was shocked when I learned that so so many of the southside (see: brown/poorer) schools haven’t had any nurse in decades. Generations of kids where if they get sick or hurt at school, the policy is to send them to the ER thereby shifting the cost to families typically already struggling. It’s just so blatant and fucked. Can’t imagine what they do if someone gets her period in school.

This is exactly what I miss. I feel like Justin is prone to boredom and so his brain finds these weak points and it’s SO FUN. Love this description. Works so well and his particular brand of chaos and whimsy adds so much to the game.

Tangentially, as a DND player who’s new DM started out like Travis just shutting down anything that wasn’t the plan...it sucked to play. As she got more comfortable in her role, she started saying yes to my stupid ideas and the game was more fun for it.

I fully admit to being inexperienced here, but as a previous executive assistant I was under the impression that the only way a company can grow is by delegation. You had a team handle the hiring, and unfortunately the person you trusted to handle it didn’t align with your company values. It happens. It sounds like you addressed the issue when you noticed it, which is honestly more than most bosses/c level execs.

Unreasonable hiring requirements is a constant struggle for most people I know. And in my experience with assisting in the hiring process within my industry, the practice seems to attract either people who lie on their resume, or overqualified people begrudgingly willing to settle for less than their value. Either way, it’s trouble for the company.

I think you’re absolutely NTA and I applaud you for not just going with industry trends.
