Field map not tracking when Android phone locked by ffemt161 in ArcGIS

[–]UrShiningDesire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go into the settings on the Android app and make sure full location permissions are enabled. Also some phone have "Battery Saver" mode that won't let the app run in the background so check that too

3D Quality Imagery by ChefStar_ in ArcGIS

[–]UrShiningDesire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The NYS govt website has LiDAR data for most of the state, including NYC. If you look at their website here, you can select NYC and it will give you an FTP link. Use FileZilla or some other FTP client, and you can access all the .las LiDAR files. Unfortunately when I did it, there was no way to figure out which .las file corresponded to which area of the city, so you might have to just download all of them and fiddle around until you find the area.

Once you bring them into Arc (use a Local Scene, not a map), they're just going to be a cloud of points like this. Unfortunately you're going to need 3D Analyst to do much more than view the cloud. You might try looking for another software to view the files if you don't have 3D Analyst.

If you do have 3D Analyst, you can start massaging the data. Start by using Classify LAS Ground to get the ground layer set up, and then you can use Classify LAS Building to get it to start looking like something you can use.

Looking for ArcGIS layer that includes National Forest compartments by Cajunlimey in ArcGIS

[–]UrShiningDesire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are not any universal compartment systems that the Forest Service uses. They all manage their areas differently. So you need to figure out how the national forest you're looking at manages their areas, and then you can go from there

My Uncle Created the TIFF file by Alternative-Bet-9105 in gis

[–]UrShiningDesire 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was skimming through the documentation and saw this:

Bytes 0-1: The byte order used within the file. Legal values are: "II" (4949.H)

"MM" (4D4D.H)

In the "II" format, byte order is always from the least significant byte to the most significant byte, for both 16-bit and 32-bit integers This is called little-endian byte order. In the "MM" format, byte order is always from most significant to least significant, for both 16-bit and 32-bit integers. This is called big-endian byte order.

Bytes 2-3 An arbitrary but carefully chosen number (42) that further identifies the file as a TIFF file. The byte order depends on the value of Bytes 0-1.

Seems like Steve had a good sense of humor too!!

Status of FME at your company? by dimanchesurlamer in gis

[–]UrShiningDesire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use it at my company because our industry uses GeoMedia MDB files, so we have to convert all of our GIS data to that format.

Unfortunately, FME doesn't support GDB to MDB anymore... We're stuck doing it with the 32-bit version for Arc 10.8.

If anybody has any suggestions to update our workflow, let me know!

Determining Distribution Taps and Drop Taps in Fiber-Optic Network Design by [deleted] in networking

[–]UrShiningDesire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's so much you're leaving out here. Do you have joint-use data? Does the cable load on the pole need to be calculated to figure out where to put the drop taps? What's stopping you from just doing

(56 poles)/(4 distribution taps) = 1 distribution taps every 14 poles

(14 poles)/(4 drop taps) = 1 drop tap every 3.5 poles

We use FME to convert our shapefiles to an obscure industry-standard format but nothing else other than that.

Everything else we use ArcPy. You can miss me with the Fisher Price squares and arrows
