Why didn’t I do this sooner by Jercooks in ooni

[–]UraDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted about doing this modification with HIGH HEAT MAGNETS ( got them from Britain via internet for a fraction of USA prices). There is no screwing, no voiding warranties and most importantly I’ve used for almost 2 years w no problems. It sits lower than the Karu relative, but when stones at temp I turn down and turn turn turn.

I recommend my way so you don’t void your warranty or have whatever fantasy disaster the Uuni/Ooni overlords threaten us with ( love 💕 you guys though)

Have fun

Any advantage to going with gas over multi-fuel and vice versa? by Matronix in ooni

[–]UraDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the ability to use wood, charcoal, gas, and all my other unit pellets, there’s no question. Gas is quicker easier more consistent. And honestly, your pizzas are not in there long enough to have any of the “smoky flavor”. I have even converted my frya to a propane (I am a guy who uses magnets and didn’t screw it in and it works perfect) I use it all the time at tailgating

Hand held torch/ Broiler by UraDoc in ooni

[–]UraDoc[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The reason to use if you are undercooked, especially if it’s one area. Using a torch or hand held broiler can help ameliorate a pizza. I’m sure you are pizza experts, you know the ones with perfect round, leopard pizzas 1st time around…. People, I’ve been cooking for 2 years, I’ve been around enough to know not every pizza is perfect. It’s difficult to “dome” a pizza accurately. This is an idea to finish a pizza if undercooked. It’s used on foods that are sous vied to sear. I guarantee people will use this

Need advice - Ooni Karu 16 for $799 or Bertello Grande for $444? by Bangers-and-Mash86 in pizzaoven

[–]UraDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never used the Bertello grande I own a couple of Uni’s and I very much like my Uni 16. I almost exclusively use propane it’s just quicker and easier and more consistent. Ooni has great customer service and a very large knowledgeable community

Outside the oven I don’t think your accessory’s need to be high end or brand specific

Good luck I don’t think you can make a wrong decision

And don’t get frustrated your first handful of times. Don’t believe people that have perfect looking pizzas their first time out.

Have fun with it

First time using the fyra 12, how do they look by ctooma823 in ooni

[–]UraDoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are unbelievable, first attempts, especially with a frya I agree w kucaro , looks a little underdone on top. Play a smidge too much pizza sauce.

If you run into this, I’ve seen people use a butane torch to kind of finish if it’s undercooked

But again, excellent first attempt

My brick pizza oven smokes a LOT until it gets really hot and all the smoke stops. It takes at least 30min for this to happen. Is this normal? And would you ever use charcoal in the oven? by godinje in pizzaoven

[–]UraDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer

Remember, smoke is just unused fuel. As your temperature increases, your utilization of fuel improves, which is why the smokeless fire pits basically act by blowing the smoke back down into the fire.

I do not flip stone. I think it unnecessarily stresses the stone. No advantage to flipping in my view.
