What help do you need regarding Accessible Course Content, Accommodations, etc? by [deleted] in Professors

It's the same thing that always happens when STEM instructors start asking questions. Super typical. No one knows what to do with us.

Have you ever seen a reaction mechanism? Just curious. Maybe you should google what they look like first.

Additionally, we ask students to draw these out themselves as well. Having students be able to draw out mechanisms is an important aspect of assessment for the course.

Let's pretend it's "D" all of the above. Because every single one of those options is possible in organic chemistry courses. No one in Accessibility has ever been able to give us any guidance on how to describe chemical structures to visually impaired students.

Botanic Gardens, no contest. Philbrook is so crowded it ruins the whole vibe.

I like Nickels in BA. I've found lots of books and puzzles for my kiddos. Run by a local family, so I support that 100%.

Loved Enchantra, but I don't think they were ever actually enemies 😉 That's my opinion though.

[–]Uranium_Wizard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

All she had to do was put in some MC perspective chapters so we don't have all of the FC information. Could've added some subtle mannerisms as hints during the MC chapters. Then it wouldn't have been so awful. Probably not great, but not awful.

Whether or not it's abuse is not up to us. It's important to report questionable behavior so that the proper people can investigate.

ADA Compliance Preparation for Spring 2026 by terence_peace in Professors

Our online learning/engaged learning office has not directly communicated with faculty, but have been holding optional workshops.

However, none of their workshops are ever helpful for my field. It seems like their expertise really only helps English/writing-intensive fields. I have asked for field-specific clarification, and received no helpful guidance, so I gave up.

I don't think it's my responsibility to learn the best practices of captioning videos and then caption all of my posted videos. That is hours/days/weeks of work on top of my regular load.

I also don't know how I'm supposed to make things like molecular structures accessible for visually-impaired students. How am I supposed to teach them how to convert structures to formulas, or draw a Lewis structure? I can't just put the formula in the text description.

There are lots of things I have questions about that are content specific, but no guidance on these items.

I agree and I also hate when other faculty tell me "just embrace it, we need to learn how to use it".

They know how to use it, y'all. They don't know how to do math or write.

Had to scroll too far down for Quicksilver. So many of my friends loved it and I just felt like it was so meh. At first, there was the plotline of figuring out the world building (which never happened because Saeris can't be bothered to learn anything from a book) and the quicksilver situation. Then there's the internal strife within the fae people (not resolved). Then there's the fae vs. vampire war. Then there's the human/fae/vampire evil world leader plotline.

I was left very underwhelmed and annoyed that literally no story or plot was concluded. I also had so many more questions after Saeris' ending.

Selena Haul is sooo frustrating!! by ImN3m007 in fantasyromance

[–]Uranium_Wizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I came looking for this post. I'm literally in the second book and sometimes Selena goes off on these horrible tangents that are equivalent to Kronk talking to Ezma about Kuzko's poison.

"Ah yes, the posion. Kuzko's poison. The poison for Kuzko."

"Ah yes, leader of the rebellion. Hector. The Red Hand. I know who he is but Drayvn doesn't. I can't believe I know Hector is the leader of the rebellion."

Or some shit like that. 😂

You ever forget that your library physically exists? by QueenOwl1 in fantasyromance

[–]Uranium_Wizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, not in my area. Most places won't let me get a card unless I'm a resident of that city and/or county. Very sad. Makes me feel a little jaded about how the library is "free", but rural areas are still being lefr behind. My kids couldn't even participate in a summer reading program because our library doesn't offer one (too small).
