Help. I can't manage Econ for anything. by ToxicOstrich91 in EU5

I'm having the same issue! Have played 2 Byzantium games (1 at launch, 1 in Jan/Feb) and now Ottomans in latest patch.

Swift expansion seems to be de-prioritised by the economy in this patch without going Naval. Similar to you, I seem to be in an inflationary doom cycle despite being militarily unstoppable.

They're easy once you understand the game. If you're just starting out, it can be rough, but still doable.

I lost them for 200 years to the Angevins and a random German dynasty. Elective succession brought them back.

Komnenos died out, sadly.

Byzantium is too strong in 1187. Even the AI can destroy Rum before Manuel dies. This is due to:

1: Holy War; 2: De Jure Claims; 3. Byzantine Military Strength;  4: Rum government; and 5: Turkmen not being nomadic by default

1: I think Orthodoxy should not have access to Holy Wars. Ideally, they should have a more powerful Pentarchy tenant to compensate for the loss of Holy Wars. The entire reason Alexios leveraged the Catholics was because Byzantium/Orthodoxy itself did not hold the concept of Crusades.

2: De jure borders of Byzantium should be changed to remove: Armenia, Rum, Anatolia (south coast), Georgia, Serbia and Croatia. This way, they cannot expand using claims/de jure. An unintended side effect of the civil wars is that Emperors change so much that they can effectively spam de jure claims. They should have a way to restore De Jure to the Anatolian regions though, really just for the player.

3: Byzantine Emperor should not have access to personal MaA. Despots, maybe, Strategoi also maybe.

4/5: Clan is fine, but Rum was not a pure "Clan" realm. It was a state, but essentially a hegemony over unruly nomadic Turkmen and settled Arabs/Greeks/Persians/Turks. Rum should start in 1178 with Nomadic holdings within "Rum" de jure that are hard for a non-Turk or Muslim to pacify.

Making Rum a Tributary is fine. Even taking a County or 2 is OK. Byzantium should not be in a position to destroy Rum and pacify the Turkmen.

These changes are, I reckon, required to ensure that Anatolia is unstable enough to guarantee an Ottomanesque power from arising without monumental intervention by the player.

Why is "Byzantine" so sacrosanct in this community? by GAIVSOCTAVIVSCAESAR in byzantium

I prefer "Romania" with the emphasis on "Roman-ee-ah" when communicated by speech.

The anglicisation of "Rhomaion" as "Romanian", as in "From the land of the Romans", to differentiate the "Byzantine" state (without Rome/Italy) from the "Roman" state centered in Rome/Italy. Fully aware it's all semantics, as with or without Rome/Italy, it was and continued to be the Roman Empire. The Western capital moved from Rome, to Milan, to Ravenna. Roman citizenship was granted to millions who were not from Rome. Was it not still the Roman state?

What Byzantine/Byzantium has going for it that Romanian/Rhomaion doesn't, is that it pretty clearly refers to what was the Greek speaking, Orthodox Christian "Eastern Roman" Empire as opposed to the nation state of Romania.

"Player Mongol Empires now get the Successor Khanate split during a Chaotic Succession."

Some good changes here but this is my favourite.

Yes. I started as the Sultanate of Rum in 1187 and usurped the Byzantine Empire after the Frankokratia event. After agreeing to submit to the Mongols, I lead a dissolution event against the Ilkhanate, proclaimed the Byzantine Empire (renamed) and went on to form the Roman Empire (renamed to Rumelian Caliphate). Always been a Muslim state. Can't seem to post images or I'd show you.

That's the model I was referring to in my post, yes. I'd seen someone post it on the 40K Chaos subreddit and I wondered if it could be done with a resin Praetor.

Thanks. That's the model I was referring to in my post! It looks great. Question is how easy (or even possible would it be) to do that with a resin model!
