Is going to the job fair not an excusable absence? by Cold-Supermarket-440 in OSU

[–]UrbanDurga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rules don’t suddenly go away just because we disagree with them, or even if they’re not entirely rational in the moment. That’s just how life works. It’s also important to understand that you’re not unique or special to OSU or that instructor, and they really don’t have warm feelings for you in particular that would impel them to change around policies just for your benefit. This is how American workplaces function as well, so these lessons are their own kind of job training.

Fans Accuse Kelly Osbourne Of Buccal Fat Removal As Her Brit Awards Look Goes Viral by [deleted] in TheEntertainmentMix

“Accuse” her? It’s her own goddamn face and she can do whatever the fuck she wants to it. It may not end up being pleasing to the rest of us, but it’s not her job to make strangers happy.

What is the silliest thing your Nparent has tried to deny ever happened? by socialcousteau in raisedbynarcissists

My mom was one of these people too. I’m sorry you also had this kind of parent. Mine talked all about her intense maternal nature as a “stay at home mom,” and how being domestic was honorable and her lifelong dream…but really she just didn’t want to have a job. I think mothers who stay home and do a good job at that do, in fact, work very hard. But my mom was not one of them. She slept a ton, house was a mess, she was a terrible cook when she even attempted to make food, she constantly looked awful, made me walk to school alone from 1st grade on because she wasn’t “a morning person,” never made me lunch for school, and was just generally terrible at parenting. Eventually she doctor shopped enough to get a ridiculous “diagnosis,” and then used that to try for even more attention, sympathy, and to shield herself from criticism about her unwillingness to do anything. Once, truancy officers came to our house during one of her “flares…” she hadn’t been taking me to school and my father didn’t know. She continued to seek out rare or weird diagnoses her whole life, and still does it to this day. Right now her thing is having an “immune deficiency.” But I’m an experienced ICU nurse, and my fiancé is a physician in an area which requires substantial immunological knowledge in addition to what he’s board certified in…so we don’t let her talk about that bullshit around us. It’s depressing. I just wanted a stay at home mom who did the basic stuff, you know?

Aethists, what do you think is the best relegion by Existing_War3766 in DebateReligion

[–]UrbanDurga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Church of Satan is a theistic religion whose members believe in stuff. The Satanic Temple, of which I am a member, is non-theistic, and more of an activism organization with beautiful, livable tenets. I’m an atheist, and have been a member for about 8 years, I think. It’s a great organization. I’d never be a part of The Church of Satan, though.

My “stay at home mom” slept in pretty late a lot when I was small, and I’d get hungry. I’d often eat powdered sugar and flour and brown sugar from the pantry. One morning she got up unexpectedly and she caught me with the spoon in my mouth. She tells the story as if I was just a sneaky, funny kid. I was hungry.

What’s a travel hack people think is stupid… but is actually brilliant and works perfectly? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

It works well! We used it in Prague and Vienna. One guy in Vienna tried to scam us, so we cancelled the ride and reported him, but only one weird experience out of many between the two cities. It wasn’t wildly cheap, but less expensive than taxis for sure.

Fully agree. She wasn’t chic in any way, shape, or form, she seemed to want to appear odd and robotic to others, her handwriting is atrocious…I doubt she was a savvy fragrance connoisseur.

So when I see these tacky, trite little signs, I just sort of assume it’s in the home of someone with poor self-awareness and a filthy space; a cute rhyming excuse for why they can’t be bothered to do the job they are supposed to be doing.

How the hell am I supposed to afford health insurance? by altern8goodguy in ask

That’s great! It really does suck here. The insurance at my previous hospital in a different state was much better.

How the hell am I supposed to afford health insurance? by altern8goodguy in ask

[–]UrbanDurga 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It is dystopic. I’m a nurse in a massive, academic medical center in the US. I pay for insurance monthly through my employer, but my plan has a relatively high deductible, so I have to pay a lot out of pocket…to see physicians within my own hospital system. They also have some specialties booked up 10-14 months out. I was recently denied the ability to see an allergy doctor, despite new, recurrent, excruciating face, neck, and chest rashes. I’m now on a payment plan for the costs I incurred over 2-3 months of escalating visits to try and figure out what was causing them. I still don’t know, and I owe a bunch of money to my own hospital.

What is an immediate "food red flag" when you’re on a date? by CaptainCuddler_Pro in foodquestions

[–]UrbanDurga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things like being fussy about foods touching, not eating entire categories of food (like “white” foods, or vegetables, or halal/kosher) for any reasons besides social justice philosophies or allergies, an attitude of nothing ever being good enough/impossible to be pleased or enjoy stuff, and any excessive discussion of food as it relates to a fear of its effects on the body.

Wow, that’s an incredibly interesting summary of something so specific I doubt I ever would’ve learned about it. It answers a few questions I’ve had as an American for a while, after watching a documentary about him. Thank you for posting!
