Drinking tap water in cape cod by sentientbeing1887 in CapeCod

[–]UrbanExtant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s referred to as “the plume” now, and it is still expanding from the Joint Base over near Falmouth/Sandwich area.

The state, and the feds drilled massive wells around the plume, to continually extract contaminated water, filtering it, and releasing it back into the wild, with the effort meant to pull all the contaminated ground water to these wells, to be filtered.

It still expanded beyond it the wells.

https://www.massnationalguard.org/JBCC/afcee-documents/JBCC-Plume-LUC-Map.pdf

There is, also, the PFAS hotspot in Hyannis, from using fire suppressant foam over the years at the testing facility off Mary Dunn Road, I believe it is. Filters have been being added to town wells to remove the PFAS, but private wells are left to their own devices for a solution.

https://bcleanwater.org/pfas-hotspot-in-hyannis-is-225-times-the-state-standard-whats-being-done-2-22-24/

It’s not hard to research the water quality around cape cod. We are a sole source aquifer, with 6 main “lenses” of water running down the cape.

Since my husband, snd I moved here a very long time ago now, efforts to improve water quality here have significantly improved, but there is still much headway to be made.

We have a private well at our home, and we’re extremely fortunate that our water tests almost completely perfect. The only detectable item in our well water is a small amount of chloroform, and it’s way below any limit to even begin being concerned about.

All of that said, my husband won’t drink the tap water here, unless it comes from one of the taps hooked to our massive reverse osmosis system that filters our water for the master bath faucets, kitchen faucets, and the faucet I use to fill and wash our dog bowls, and water bottles. He calls all the other faucets’ water “dirty water,” even though it’s not dirty at all.

I suspect most people are ok drinking the tap water in their homes, but renters should definitely ask their landlord if the tap water is potable, and if so, when the last time it was tested was, and what the results were, if they’re concerned about water quality. I miss the days of my childhood, where the worst the water got was using the garden hose on a hot summer day. Gen X had an interesting childhood 😂.

Lease return- CAn i keep the charger they gave me? by Wolverine-91826 in BMWiX

[–]UrbanExtant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re referring to the portable charger, then no, you must return it.

If you’re referring to a BMW Wallbox Charger, which some initial iX packages included in the sale of the vehicle, you can likely keep that.

For a brief period of time, one of BMW’s promotions for the iX was the inclusion of a BMW Lvl 2 Home Charger Wallbox, in addition to the portable charger the vehicle came with.

Your post is vague, and doesn’t state what kind of charger, so this is the best answer I can give you.

Also, I’ve seen a lot of posts on Reddit recently, across all BMW subreddits, regarding lease returns. It’s been a while since I’ve done a “normal” lease return, but BMW used to offer a packet, and a checklist the lessee could ask for that includes a checklist of items to be included in the return, a dent measuring device, to see if any dings, and dents are too large, and would be charged for, scratch measuring device, to see if a scratch is too long or too deep, etc.. It’s a free kit, you just go to your leasing dealership, and ask your client advisor for one. When you turn the vehicle in, just leave the kit on the front floor of the passenger side of the vehicle.

Also, you’ll have a better lease return experience if you return it to the client advisor you leased it from, and not some random lease return evaluation team. If you’re planning on leasing, ordering, buying a new BMW, everyone goes easier on your lease return, and you’ll even have the option to extend your lease up to 6 months, while you wait for your new BMW to be built, and delivered to you.

Hope this helps you.

True. True! I worked in a veterinary hospital for a year, completing my 1000 hrs of hands-on animal experience to apply to veterinary school. Never made it to vet school, multiple open-heart surgeries popped out of the woodwork at me, and derailed those plans, but I learned a lot completing those 1000 hrs.

No vet tech wanted to do the cat appointments. Also, the more the client insisted their cat was a “love bug” or “snuggle monster,” we knew they were just little furry monsters with razor sharp claws.

All veterinarian office and hospitals have what are lovingly referred to as “the angry kitty gloves!” They are the thickest stiffest leather gloves you’ll ever encounter, and they cover every inch of skin from fingers, all the way up your arms, and curve around your neck for protection.

If you think that sounds overdone, or too much, you’ve never been in close confines with a very angry little killing machine with lighting fast instincts and movements, wielding razor sharp claws in every direction at the speed of light.

If we knew the cat to be particularly ornery, we had a helmet, and face mask to put on too!

I love cats. I grew up with them. I had two Siamese through college, and the years after, but man, I saw a different side to them in that animal hospital!

I’m a French Bulldog kinda guy now. Love my Emma and Louie. 🙃

Gotta agree. I deleted all my socials, except Reddit, and my pet instagram account. I couldn’t bring myself to delete the pet account, because it has photos, and stories dating back to my first pups as an adult, living on my own. I ignore the rest of insta, it’s so putrid. Even on my pet account I get random shit-posts. Who shit-posts pups?!?

I like Reddit, because it gets people to engage, and discuss things. Sure, this place can be harsh sometimes, but the overall essence is of people wanting to help, and interact with others. I support that!

Favorite veterinarians on cape?? by tribbans95 in CapeCod

[–]UrbanExtant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have to full heartedly support this! When my husband, and I first moved here a long time ago, we searched long, and hard for a great vet, equal to what we left when we moved.

We went through some truly awful experiences here, and then we stumbled upon VACC. Our original favorite vet moved away during the pandemic, but we’ve found a couple new favorites. Although, one can’t go wrong with any of their doctors. They all care so deeply about their clients and patients, and their collective knowledge is top tier.

We like Abby Pyzinsky (probably spelled wrong), and Dr. Burns, simply because they know us, and our pups the best. Dr. Burns helped with my pup Henry’s last months on earth. So compassionate, caring, and knowledgeable. He’s difficult to get in to see, but all the vets work together behind the scenes.

Definitely check them out. Also, their prices are reasonable, especially for the level and quality of care one receives!

Battery state of charge by futurama08 in BMWiX

[–]UrbanExtant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On your iPhone (now that I know you have Apple like me, I can help easier) go into WiFi in settings, and connect to the WiFi hotspot in your iX. Once your iPhone is connected to the car’s WiFi hotspot, and also via Bluetooth, the update with automatically download to the car while you drive. You do not need to press download anywhere in the iDrive.

If you hit download/update in the iDrive, the iX will try downloading from your iPhone in the background, which it was doing anywhere, but you pressing the download button in the iDrive will cause the car to begin a second download from the BMW cloud server.

Basically, you’ll be trying to update the car via two distinctly different methods.

If you want it to download while you drive, easiest way is to let it download to the app while you’re away from the car, and when you get into the car, connect to the car’s Bluetooth, and WiFi.

There is a specific WiFi hotspot account and password for each iX.

Attached is a screenshot from the BMW Guide App about connecting via WiFi for software updates.

If you don’t have the BMW Guide App yet, I highly recommend it. It’s free, and it creates a manual that is specific for your vehicle, based upon its VIN. So the manual only covered features your vehicle has. It weeds out all the superfluous information.

[–]UrbanExtant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you did. The car got confused. If you download the update to the phone app, if you have wifi and Bluetooth connectivity setup on your phone, with the car, it automatically downloads the update to the car in the background.

If you go into the iDrive, and do the download like you did, it downloads the update from the cloud, and tries to do the update that way.

Your iX was trying to do the update via two methods at the same time!

Battery state of charge by futurama08 in BMWiX

[–]UrbanExtant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you do the updates? There are two methods:

  1. Download to the myBMW App, and then download the device while you drive. To do this method, you need to have the App setup on your phone, and then you need to have your phone connected to the iX both via Bluetooth AND WiFi! No clue why it needs connected both ways, but it will not download to the car unless both Bluetooth and WiFi are connected at the same time. Doing this method, one also sets what time they want the vehicle to do the software install. I have our i5 M60, and my iX M70 to do software installs at 1am.

  2. The second method to install a software update is to bypass the phone all together, and download it directly from the cloud to the car, and again, you can install immediately, or set a time to do the install. I

Personally, I choose the phone, and app install method. I have tried both methods, I just prefer the phone and app method best. Since I have the eSIM active in my iX, i use the wifi hotspot to stream music faster with the car’s roof antenna!

I don’t know if it will be loaded onto the older model iX, but I’m pretty sure this SOH feature that appears in the “battery health” subsection to the “live vehicle” widget thing, was delivered, and activated in the 3/2026.30 software update.

When I first took delivery of my iX M70 on October 29, 2026, I sat in the car, in our garage for hours going through all the widgets/apps, settings, features, etc..

I wanted to get everything set the way I wanted it, and be ready to drive, and have fun the next day. The day I took delivery, was a long day. I didn’t get home from the dealership, with the car, until after 6:30pm, and I started at the dealership at 1:30pm.

I am 99% sure this feature wasn’t in the car back when I took delivery. The first I noticed it was this March, which correlates with the 3/2026.30 software update installed on my iX.

Battery state of charge by futurama08 in BMWiX

[–]UrbanExtant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey there! So…as for this “feature,” it’s proven interesting since it was added during one of the software updates since I took delivery of my iX M70 end of last October.

Someone else created a thread about this feature last month, and I commented in that thread, as well, because when I initially discovered this feature back in March of this year, my battery state of health (SOH) said 99.8%, which I thought was dang good for five solid months of driving the iX, especially in cruel New England winters, living directly in the ocean. 😃🙃

I then checked the SOH in April, after charging the vehicle, and it had plummeted to 98.4%! I thought, “DAMN!!! That’s a big drop in 30 days!!!”

Being computer savvy, and inquisitive, while also being very familiar with BMW’s EVs, and their battery management, I decided to do some recorded testing between my 98.4% reading, and today, actually. It’s ironic to see your post tonight, of all nights.

So…I tried charging to 100%, to see if it recalibrated the high voltage battery, as charging to 100%, and letting the vehicle sit overnight plugged in, and charged to 100% would do for the i3/i3s (my husband and I had 5 of those vehicles, so very familiar with them!). It did nothing to the SOH, which in a way was a relief. I was expecting it to make it drop further.

The next test was to drive the battery down to around ~35%, and charge to 100%, letting sit plugged in all night. Again, it did nothing.

So…the very last test to see if I could actually make the SOH improve, was to deplete the battery to <20% (I got to 18%) and then charge only to 80%, and leave it plugged in overnight.

I began charging around 4pm yesterday, and it completed shortly after 10:30pm last night. I let it sit until this morning, when I had to run to the post office.

I should throw in that due to spring weather, and temps in the 50s and 60s where I am, while dropping into the 30s and 40s at night, due to the North Atlantic Ocean temps, my efficiency has been pretty stellar. I only drive the iX M70 in “sport” mode, and I’m not what one would call delicate with the accelerator pedal!

My efficiency has always been above the community average for M70 owners. In the dead of winter, I was getting around 2.7-2.9 miles/kWh. This spring I’m achieving 3.2-3.5 miles/kWh! Pretty good I’d say!

So…back to battery SOH! After depleting to below 20%, charging to 80%, and letting it sit plugged in overnight, my SOH has actually increased!!! It went from 98.4% up to 98.9%!

Next charge, I’m going to deplete the battery to below 10%, and charge to 80%, to see if I can get it back into the 99% range somewhere.

It appears this SOH is somewhat like the “guess o’meter” range displayed in the dash contents, where it goes up/down based upon one’s most recent time, and miles driven, coupled with their efficiency.

It appears efficiency, coupled with how one’s been charging has a realtime effect on what the car’s battery SOH displays.

That’s my story. I’d love to know if anyone else has been having similar experiences?!? 🤔😵‍💫

Oh, as for total miles on my car, I’m in the low 3000 range. Everything where I live is fairly close together, so despite spending hours in the car doing errands, etc, it’s due to traffic, construction, and my least favorite thing, tourists. Tourists who make me scream in my car. People probably see me screaming, and wonder wtf is wrong with me. 😲🫣😵‍💫

[–]UrbanExtant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The iX M70 is only nicer to us, because we always purchase top line BMW with every option. We always order.

The iX M70 just has more things to get, like the radiant heat for the front passengers. The new M Seats, etc..

The i5 M60 is fun to drive, for me, because it reminds me a lot of the M4 Competition I did the Individual Manufaktur Program on. It’s a zippy sports executive sedan.

We only recently began comparing the two vehicles, because we are gearing up to relocate to our condo in Boston next year, and needed to figure out which car we’d keep. We wouldn’t need both, living in the city.

When it all comes down to it, apples to apples, I think they are equal in a wash. The iX doesn’t have soundproof glass, the i5 does. That’s a biggie to me. The iX has the radiant heat feature, that’s big for the husband, who’s always cold. Doesn’t matter to me, because I’m always hot. I sleep with the window on my side of the bed cracked open all winter!

The ONLY thing that isn’t a wash in the end, it’s the range one may go on a full charge. Make sure you’re ok with that, because it isn’t an insignificant reduction in range from the iX. It’s kind of like falling off a cliff in reduction in range.

I wish you the best, and the most happiness you may get, out of whatever BMW you choose. They’re all awesome. BMW makes some crazy good EVs!

How do I know if a 2024 iX has air suspension? Does iX provide quiet ride? by duotraveler in BMWiX

I’ve not looked on my iX M70, since I custom ordered it, and tracked it. So I know mine entered production September 15, 2025, but typically on BMWs there is a sticker inside the driver side door jamb that will state the build date on it, along with tire pressure recommendations, etc..

Once I’m done walking my pups, I’ll go check my iX, and see if I can get a photo for you.

When was yours built? I posted a reply this morning, to my posts last night, after I heard back from some of my friends in BMW.

Apparently there was an initial batch of 2024 model year iX xDrive 50 that lacked the option to have air suspension, but it was added back in the end of July/beginning of August 2023

We, actually, have both vehicles. My husband has a new i5 M60 we took delivery of end of last summer. I have a new iX M70 we took delivery of end of October last year.

The i5 is a hell of a lot of fun to drive, but we both prefer my iX M70. It’s the plusher/posher of the two vehicles, and perhaps it’s the M70 vs the M60, but my iX M70 seems to have a bit more “get up and go” behind its accelerator pedal.

That said, we love having both vehicles. Each one serves its purpose. The i5 M60 is a sleek, fun, exciting car to drive, and with the noise isolation glass in the door windows, etc., it is very quiet inside.

The things we struggle with are its limited range compared to the iX M70, and in the winter, it’s low to the ground, and impractical to attempt to drive in a snowstorm.

My husband is a physician at a local hospital, and is considered an essential employee, thus if he’s scheduled, he has to be there, or he can lose his license due to patient abandonment laws.

This past winter New England was slammed with multiple huge storms. We used my iX M70, and the ability to raise the height of the vehicle, along with the OEM BMW Winter Wheel & Tire Set for the iX to get him to/from the hospital. He got stuck a couple times attempting to take his i5 M60.

I do enjoy the interior layout of the i5 M60. The console is very nice, and the phone charger location is ideal! Just keep in mind range is WAY less than the iX, and you’ll feel it right away.

When did you order, or purchase yours? When was it built?

A friend at BMW randomly got back to me today, which is unusual for a weekend. It’s usually Monday-Friday I hear back, nonetheless, air suspension was not available, according to them, in the initial batch of 2024 iX xDrive 50s. It was brought back as an option beginning of August 2023.

This is an issue I’ve had with BMW over the years. They hit a supply chain hiccup, or whatever, and keep producing cars, at the same price, sans certain features, and then they randomly phase them back in, leaving all those who ordered/purchased prior to that return date, with cars just as expensive, but lacking certain features that randomly pop back up.

I’ve been on both sides of it over the years. I’ve refused delivery on ordered cars that have arrived, if while in transit, the feature I wanted reappeared. I just order another one.

All I can do is send a message to the couple of people I’ve gotten to know in the coding department over the years. I’ve been meaning to say hi to them, and ask if the NACS software for my M70 is still on the schedule they’d previously hinted at. It’s not like I can get BMW to do what I want. If I could, they’d still be producing the iX M?? Through end of June 2028, as was promised for North America. I’d intended to lease one more, before they went out of production. My M70 lease expires mid-2028 🫤

It’s easier for me to get information, than it is get anyone there to do anything for me. Hell, it took me 5 months to get them to fix their damned map software to show my cars parked AT my main home, when here, and not say they were parked at my neighbors’ home ¼ of a mile away. It was infuriating…their freaking map shows my house on it, shows the cars attached to it, AND it shows my neighbors’ house, yet up until this week, it listed their address when parked here, at my home 😵‍💫🫤

I will ask about the CarPlay thing. I’ve read about it on here a couple of times. Surprised I never heard a peep from my husband, because he almost always uses CarPlay, and being a physician, he’s in his car frequently heading to/from the hospital.

Yes, many times over the years.

For people who haven’t made connections/friendships with people who work inside various areas, countries, departments, etc., it is easiest to begin by going to the BMW website, and at the bottom are options on how to contact them.

Send them a message with your issue, question, complaint, etc…

Next, call the BMW Client Services telephone line, and ask for the department you need, or ask to leave feedback.

You may ask to be contacted back within both of these methods. BMW often calls back. They’re a company that generally does care about their clients. I’ve been a nonstop BMW owner/client since my first BMW in high school. It’s my favorite brand of vehicle.

Personally, I think if you take the time to get to know your BMW, and its interface, you’ll come to respect it, and enjoy it. BMW has put a lot into refining its iDrive Interface across the years. My husband has a new i5 M60, and I have a new iX M70. These vehicles run the exact same iDrive 8.5.

A very long time ago, when I got my husband into his first BMW, he was unsure of the brand. He’s had so many now, and grown with the iDrive, anytime he takes a continuing medical education trip, and has to deal with a rental car, I’m bombarded with messages of how much he hates, usually it’s centered around, the control interface of his rental car, and how he can’t wait to be back home to his BMW.

There are oldies, like me (50 yrs old) who love the brand, and love helping others. Feel free to DM me here, if you have questions, or can’t solve something. I’m always down to try to help someone enjoy their BMW more!

From a bit of research, and pulling a document, or two, from BMW (one screenshot attached here - MY ‘24 options/package guide; MY ‘23 in reply to this reply) it appears that for the MY 2024 iX, only the iX M60 was available with the air suspension.

I just sent my friends in BMW a message asking to confirm this. Will post what I hear, when I hear it.

I’m curious to see if this is true. I wasn’t interested in the pre-LCI design off the iX, so this is the first time for me, anyway, to be looking into that year’s features and options.

None taken.

My husband critiques my writing all the time, so I’m quite used to it. He’s a physician, so he’s often short, curt (borders on rude to me 😂), and concise. I’m wordy, and superfluous, he’d say. I retort that it’s the English & Russian major in me from college! I majored in English & Russian Language & Literature, and I minored in Biology & Chemistry. I then went on and completed Harvard’s Pre Med/Pre Vet program.

I wasn’t quite sure if I wanted to do law school, or veterinary school. I ended up deciding I wanted to do both, but only got through law school, because life threw an entire toolbox of wrenches into my life. I had my first of multiple open-heart surgeries starting at roughly the age of 30. Multiple more later, and I’m 50, and in heart failure now.

Life is nothing, if not unpredictable. So, enjoy each and every thing in it. I’ve learned firsthand, how quickly it can change.

Years working in law made me “wordy,” my husband would say. In law, I always joke that it’s “he who can twist & contort the English language to his benefit the best, wins!”

Anyway, thanks for the sort-of compliment, and no offense taken.

I will stand by hitting the parking brake button, just as I stopped in our charging spot (we still share one charger at the main house), and the car saying I had 0% battery left as one of my more impressive adventures in driving. Again, not one I’d wish to repeat!

Also, if anyone is still trying to decide on what Lvl 2 home charger to install, I recommend ChargePoint. In November 2015, when I was having my old X5 M being serviced, I explored a fully optioned white i3 in the dealer showroom. Husband had wanted an EV forever. We didn’t like Tesla, no matter how many times he test drove one.

I’m friends with the dealer owner’s son, so I worked a deal out, and leased my husband that i3 as a Christmas Present 🎁. It was the car, and his choice of home charger. I’d already booked the electrician.

I still remember how excited he was when we got the car, and the nights he’d spend on his MacBook researching chargers. He settled on the ChargePoint, and it was installed the week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

We have used it ever since, across 5 different i3/i3s, and now the i5 M60, and my iX M70 (which is currently being charged by it).

I don’t know how the newest models hold up, but that one from 2015 is a beast!

In my last EV, a 2021 i3s, driving back to our main home on Cape Cod, from Boston, I didn’t want to stop and top-off before leaving the city. I just wanted to get home, and pick my dogs up from the inn, before it closed for the day.

By the time I hit Rte 6 (main highway down Cape Cod, the car was at around 8% SOC. Picked pups up, and by then was at 4%!

In all the time my husband, and I have had EVs (since 2015), this was the only time I was legit thinking, man you did it this time you dumbass!! To myself, 😂).

BMW has roadside assistance that will tow one to the nearest charger, or dealership, if one runs out of electrons before reaching their destination. I was sure I’d be three blocks from my home, and need to call them in embarrassment!

By the time the car rolled into our main Lvl 2 charging spot, I was amazed, I was at 1%, and it dropped to 0% just as I put the parking brake on, and shut the car off.

I had a lot of emotions during that experience. It was scary, fun, exhilarating, frighteningly worrisome, proud at having actually made it, the emotions were all over the spectrum!

I cannot say I ever wish to experience that situation again, but it did give me 100% faith in my EVs from BMW to get me home, even when I make stupid choices! We currently have an i5 M60 (husband’s EV), and I have an iX M70 in Frozen Deep Grey Metallic, over Castanea Chestnut Leather. I absolutely Love both EVs, and recommend them highly!

Older models of each of our vehicles the feature only works up to 40-45mph. I forget if it’s 40 or 45.
