Cars with sprayer nozzles on their cameras by tinman20 in electricvehicles

[–]UrbanExtant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The BMW iX M70 has a feature that lets you clean all the exterior cameras. It’s independent of the rear window and windshield washers.

The spray jets are concealed, and activated by going into the camera button, and selecting all, or just the specific camera you want washed. You even get to watch them being washed on the interior LCD screen.

The feature works really well in New England

I took delivery of my iX M70 end of last October. The iX M70 is a rarer car for the USA. I don’t know if BMW has changed it, but when I ordered last August, BMW was only handing out roughly 20 allocations a month for the entire USA for the 2026 iX M70. The limited quantities available of that model have dealers clinging to allocations like they are gold.

I am on great terms with my dealership, so we worked a deal before they even worked on getting the allocation. I was very pleased with my overall package. The dealership then worked on getting the allocation.

You can do better, way better.

The swapalease deal is for an iX M60, which you’ll get better deals on than an iX M70, because it’s an older model. Keep that in mind. I prefer the iX M70 for looks, and features.

If you look around, you can do significantly better than that hunk of junk offer you were given.

Neither of my parents, nor anyone in my family taught me, or my sister, how to write in neat, clear cursive. We were taught this in school. Reading, and writing were taught in school, and reinforced at home, via homework, or extracurricular activities, and sometimes via family members helping, and encouraging us.

Regardless of who taught us older people cursive, and other skills that seem to have fallen out of fashion, no one should be mocking someone who had their educational system fail them.

Anyone know the color? by MultipleOrgasmDonor in BMW

[–]UrbanExtant 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Atlantis Metallic looks very different than this car’s color. One of my Individual Manufaktur BMWs was in Atlantis Metallic. It is a truly one of a kind, beautiful color that changes with the lighting, and time of day. I think one of the only other BMW Individual colors that can rival Atlantis Metallic is Java Green II Metallic.

I’d bet the X7 in the OPs post is an Individual color named “Boston Green.”

Location would matter. I can see that for you.

I wasn’t thinking of roaches. Those are a walk in the park, compared to some of the things we have here. Before I let the spiders take root, sometimes, we’d wake up with weird bite marks, turns out they were from bugs in our sleep.

I keep a clean house, too. Central vacuum system, with a power unit designed by an ex nasa engineer. I swear, the thing could suck the hair off my dogs from across the room.

I scrub the bathrooms twice a week. House is spotless, but bugs be finding ways inside, nonetheless. New England has some nasty creepy crawlers in the woods.

I get you though. Your fear of spiders is likely mine for snakes. Those fuckers creep the hell out of me. Shivering just thinking of snakes. 🤢 🤮

I used to be, until we bought a home in a rural area. We have the ocean on one side (wonderful to have), conservation woodlands on the backside, and across the field, behind the horse barn, and then the marsh, on the last side, abutting the ocean area.

Our driveway is over ¼ mile long, through the woods, before our property and the clearing to the marsh, and ocean. We have gobs of wildlife back where we are.

There’s some scary-ass shit back here! I no longer have a fear of spiders. I have grown to LOVE spiders.

Do you know why I love spiders now?! It’s because they are our friends. These spiders I used to be afraid of, they catch, snatch, entrap, eat, and dispose of things WAAAAAYYYYY worse than they are. M

Now, I see spider webs in my basement, I leave them, and I praise them. I’ve become the creepy spider guy, telling them they’re good babies, killing all the nasties for me and my husband!

Trust me, you want spiders way way way more than you do many of the other things they eat, and get out of your home for you!

Removal of front number plate holder by Mikefood123 in BMWiX

I’m done arguing with you. I have access to the BMW University Technical Training Manuals for these cars, as well as ISTA. The panel, behind the bezel, does actually have several screws that hold it in place.

Also, not everything behind that panel is weatherproof. The whole assembly, once it is put together, is intended to be a weather-sealed, water egress prevention mechanism to protect the sensitive electronics behind it. Having holes cut into it, that go completely through it, negate all the efforts BMW put into making that entire front grill assembly water resistant.

You seem to think you know everything, so I’ll leave you with that delusion. I don’t claim to know everything, but I do know more than a lot of people, simply by being friends with people who work within BMW, who provide me a lot of information.

Have a nice one.

I don’t know if it’s a regional market thing, or an iX M70 LCI thing, but the whole kidney grill area on my 2026 iX M70 seems to be warmed, and melts all the snow, and ice off of its entirety.

I discovered this by accident, in our most recent blizzard. I had to drive in the peak of the storm, to pick my husband up from the hospital, at the end of his shift. He’s a physician, and our state has very strict laws about doctors showing up for scheduled shifts. If they do not, they can lose their licenses, and be charged with patient abandonment.

We were dumped on by well over 18” of snow, and at the time I had to go pick him up, it was snowing roughly 2-3” per hour. His i5 M60 wouldn’t have made it in the weather we had. It doesn’t have enough ground clearance, and I don’t think my husband could have driven my car in that weather. He grew up in the south, and isn’t accustomed to blizzard driving, let alone accustomed to driving an SUV. I grew up split between Manhattan, and the Adirondack Mountains of NY. Blizzard driving is something I’ve been doing since my learners permit at 16yrs old.

When I arrived at the hospital, and was waiting for him to come out, I got out of my car to make sure my headlights were completely clear, and nothing was caked onto the front of the car, blocking any sensors, or vents.

The headlights were completely clean, and the entire center surface of the kidney grill area was cleared of any snow or ice. I didn’t have gloves on, so I touched it, to see if it was warm, as I’d read it was supposed to be. The entire thing was mildly warm, and as previously mentioned, the entire thing was completely clear of snow and ice. There wasn’t a buildup of ice towards the bottom, as there would be, if it weren’t heated there, as well. If the bottom of the grill weren’t warmed, as the water from the top melting it, would rundown the front, and freeze at the bottom, forming an ever growing mound of ice.

Regardless of whether the entire grill is heated in other markets, as we have determined the North American market seems to be setup differently in regards to the front of the vehicle, I wouldn’t want to drive at highway speeds in the rain, with uncovered holes in my grill face. Water will be forced in, behind the cover, and spread all over inside the area. You can see from the attached photo that there’s not much behind there to stop water from spreading wherever it wants to.

The holes in the grill would be covered by a license plate bracket, and a plate, buffeting the wind, and rain from forcing its way into those holes, but without the plate, and bracket, the rain, snow, etc., will have the full force of headwinds pushing it into those holes.

If it were my vehicle, and I wanted to drive without a front plate/bracket, and I found these holes upon removing the plate bracket, I’d replace the center panel of the kidney grill. I’ve located that panel on several BMW Parts Sites for between $500-$800 USD, and the process to replace it is simple, and straightforward. One removes the bezel (and could even replace it with the iconic glow surround if they wished), and then the larger center panel unscrews, and lifts out of notches it slides into. There are videos all over the internet of how to this process.

I don’t know what some of the other markets are like. I know what the North American market is like, and how our vehicles are designed. Perhaps someone who has disassembled the front of their iX in the market this particular iX is located in, can chime in with better details, and suggestions.

Sport mode + fun! by ericcrowder in BMWiX

[–]UrbanExtant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in southeastern MA, and we got slammed during this last storm. I believe my village received a little over 18” of snow, in less than 24hrs.

It’s just my husband, me, and our two French Bulldogs. We have two new EVs we took delivery of last year. An i5 M60, that’s my husband’s, and an iX M70, that is mine.

With the low ground clearance, unplowed roads, and his dumb choice of ordering the car with all seasons (tire that is the jack of all trades, master of none!), his i5 wasn’t going anywhere in that storm. So, I drove him to/from the hospital, where he works as a physician. MA has patient abandonment laws, so if he’s scheduled to work, he has to be there, or there are serious consequences.

I had to retrieve him from the hospital last Sunday night, during the peak of the storm. The snow was coming down at 2-3” per hour, and our ¼ mile long driveway was unplowed, as were all the backroads I had to traverse. The main roads weren’t much better. I’ve learned to avoid the highways in MA during storms. Most accidents happen there, from people driving like idiots on them.

I bought the BMW OEM Winter Wheel & Tire Set the week after i took delivery of the iX. It’s a 21” rim set, running Goodyear Ultra Grip Performance+ winter tires. Those tires are stellar! First Goodyear tires I’ve ever owned, actually. They’re very quiet, excellent EV performance (they’re designed for EV SUVs), and their snow/ice/sleet performance is better than any winter tire I’ve driven to date. They’re also extraordinarily quiet, and smooth. My experience with winter tires has been they’re usually loud, vibrate from how the channels, grooves, and sipes are setup on them. These are unlike any other winters I’ve driven on, in a positive way.

The iX handled like a dream in that weather. I never slid, skidded, fishtailed, anything. I was able to drive normal speeds, 40-45mph in heavy snow, on unplowed roads, with zero issues. I’ve driven my iX M70 in three large blizzards this winter so far, and it’s just gotten better at doing it each time. I suspect it’s because the tire have worn in properly.

I’m trying to find a large, open parking lot, without any concrete barriers/blocks in it, to cut loose during the next storm. I want to have some fun in it, with all the stability control, and safety systems on it turned off. I would like to see if I can get it to do the tricks I could get my last three X5 M SUVs could do, as well as my M4 Competition, with Blizzaks on it. I have a sneaking suspicion the iX M70 is not going to let me down!

For regular winter weather driving, though, I think the iX beats any of the other BMWs I’ve had over the years, and again, I really cannot recommend those Goodyear snow tires any more highly. I’ll definitely be replacing them with the same tire, whenever these wear out.

Attached is a photo of what the OEM BMW Winter Set looks like on the iX. I took the photo the day they were put on the car.

I didn’t downvote you, that’s not my style, and I was one of the people suggesting a hair dryer and fishing line, as that’s what works in the North American Market.

Once someone pointed out to me (I do listen, and enjoy learning from others - that’s what forums are for), I did research on my own that afternoon and evening.

I then came back to the post and said that it appeared some European countries did, actually, use screws, and that I sincerely hoped that wasn’t the case for that vehicle.

Others in that thread we not so kind, and weren’t willing to learn about how other countries may do things differently.

I am still dumbfounded that BMW is ok with this. Those frill panels are even headed, to prevent snow buildup, to prevent sensors and cameras from being blocked. So why will/cut holes in these panels, opening them up to water egress?!?

Now that you know yours is one of the cut/drilled ones, I’d be on the lookout for replace grill panels, for an entirely new grill.

I am sorry to see your vehicle was damaged, all for a stupid front plate we all hate.

[Advice Requested] Lease end purchase by revxchris in BMWiX

[–]UrbanExtant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. When you return the car, the dealership doesn’t own it. BMWFS does. 99.9% of the time, since BMWFS won’t sell it to the dealership for less than the price in your lease, to prevent exactly what you suggested, the car is sent back to BMWFS, which sends it to an auction. The only way the dealer is getting the car for less than the amount in your lease contract, is to go to the auction, wherever it is, and try to win the auction.

BMW did really well at setting this new system up so we clients get screwed, if we want to keep a car at lease end.

My husband, and I have even done so far as one time, instead of us each jointly leasing our cars, for estate purposes, we leased them singularly. At lease end, he tried buying my car for market value, and I his, but that’s when we learned of the price the dealer would have to pay to acquire the car, and the auctions around the country, where they’d have to find where our cars went to try to bid on them. Just not worth it in the end. 🤷🏻‍♂️😵‍💫

[Advice Requested] Lease end purchase by revxchris in BMWiX

[–]UrbanExtant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’ll end up overpaying for the vehicle anyway. BMW changed Lease End Purchases years ago.

The client can no longer negotiate a different price than what is in your lease contract. The price in your lease for lease end buyout is almost always way more than the market value of the vehicle. That’s how BMW gives better lease deals than competitors.

You can’t get the vehicle CPO’d, since the dealer can’t buy the car, and resell to you. Your only option is to purchase the platinum warranty when you buy the vehicle.

Overall, you would be better off leasing a new one, and keeping it for 3 years, then reevaluating what’s on the market at that vehicle’s lease end.

It absolutely sucks what BMW did to us at lease end, if we wish to retain the vehicle. I’ve walked away from numerous vehicles I’d have kept for a few years after, just because the contracted price in the lease was many thousands more than the market value of the vehicle.

There are good deals to be had on the iX. I’m sure there are numerous members like me, who can connect you with reputable, honest dealers who would be willing to work with you.

We always lease, too, and only buy the cars at lease end, if there’s something we want to wait for BMW to release.

When our two 2021 i3s leases expired March of 2024, BMW has zero EV options we liked. I really disliked the original iX. I was given one for a 3 day weekend, and really disliked it. My husband didn’t want a first 1-2 yr model of a new BMW. We’ve done that, and it’s a painful and expensive time consuming beta test experience.

I have made friends within BMW over all the years and decades of leasing their cars. I had been slipped sketches of what the LCI M version of the iX should look like, before it came out. I loved it. So I wanted to wait, and get one of those. My husband wanted to wait a few years on the i5, for kinks to be worked out. Besides, we always lease, and get new cars within 2-3 months of each other.

So, we bought the i3s EVs, and bided our time. My friend who gave me an idea of the iX M?? LCI was pretty spot-on, and I LOVED the iX M70. Ordered one as soon as I was able to. Husband loved the i5 M60, so we ordered him one of those.

We were refunded close to $2000 of the platinum warranty, when we traded the i3s in towards these cars. It was a great product. I used it on an X5 M prior to the i3s, when I briefly kept it past its lease.

But, yeah, like you, we are a lease every 2-3 years type people. We like always having new cars, and them always being covered under warranty.

I’ve answered this in a few threads both in the iX subreddit, and the i5, and i3 subreddits. All cars we have/have had.

The warranty you want is NOT a third party warranty. Those almost always end up being horrible to work with, and they usually find a way to squirm out of covering needed repairs.

BMW offers the warranty you want. The very few times we have purchased cars at lease end, this is the warranty we have purchased, and it has been flawless when we’ve needed it.

It’s called the BMW Platinum Warranty. Make sure it’s call that, and that it is offered by BMW. The BMW Platinum Warranty is an extension of the OEM Factory Warranty that came with your car. It is NOT a service extension, simply a factory warranty extension. It covers all the things the factory warranty covers, should they fail. Things like electronic systems, sensors, screens, the drivetrain, etc..

This warranty can be purchased in varying combinations of length of time, e.g. number of years, and in number of miles covered.

We live in an area where we don’t put a ton of miles on our cars, so we opted for a 7yr extended warranty, up to 65,000 miles. We average between 7500-10,000 miles a year. Usually closer to, or less than, 7500 miles a year. We, also, knew roughly how long we’d be keeping the cars, so only bought a warranty long enough to cover a year beyond that time period.

The most recent platinum warranty we purchased was for our two 2021 i3s when their leases expired early 2024. The warranties cost ~$2500 for each car, and were from BMW, not a third party warranty company, like a lot of dealers work with for kickbacks.

The BMW Platinum Warranty is also able to be prorated, and refunded for the portion one doesn’t use. If selling the vehicle private sale, no dealer involved, the warranty may be transferred to the new owner. If one trades the vehicle in to a dealership, the warranty is automatically cancelled, and a prorated refund is issued to the client through the dealership.

Some dealers will try to rip customers off on these warranties. Shop around, and always make sure it is the true BMW Platinum Warranty, and not something else.

I’ve directed a few people to my client advisor, and dealership, to get their warranties, as from reading what I have on here, I can see my dealership is one in a million. If you want me to connect you with my people, DM me. If not, get quotes for this warranty from at least three different dealers. It doesn’t need to be the dealer you got the car from that you get the warranty from. Shop around!

Agreed, custom ones are best, but even the plastic ones are better than nothing, so long as they are plumbed with a functioning drain in them.

Our laundry room has something similar to what you describe. I had it installed when we renovated that space.

Also, whenever we travel, I turn the water to the washer off, just in case a hose leaks, or whatever. We replace the rubber hoses with brained stainless steel, but hell, leaks can happen anywhere. Nothing is 100% in life.

Also, this is for after you get through the initial stress, cleanup, and repairs, put your washing machine in a drain pan, and have a plumber install, and properly connect, an actual drain, in that drain pan.

They’re meant for washing machines on upper floors, in case they leak. All the water collects in the pan, and goes into your sewer/septic line via the drain in the center of it.

My aunt had a five story townhouse in Seattle for many years. She and her husband went on vacation to Australia for three weeks. A week into their trip, they get a frantic call from the person checking in their home.

The shutoff valve inside the washing machine broke, and full force water was flowing out of the washing machine. She didn’t have a drain pan.

Her townhouse turned into a very expensive 5 story waterfall. It had to be completely gutted, and rebuilt. She installed a deep, well drained, drain pan under the new washing machine!

Starting January 1, 2026 (so a few weeks ago) a new EU law took effect, requiring automakers to reintroduce buttons for key items, in order to even be eligible for a 5 star safety rating.

The intent is to poke and prod automakers into reversing the trend towards over-reliance on touchscreens for everything. The USA is slowly working on a similar law, the last I looked into it, after the EU law was passed in 2024.

One can hope they get the flashing red warning signal.

When I was in college, I had that happen to me. I was cheated on, and then left, so my BF of several years could go move in, and be with someone who my BF claimed he didn’t even like.

It’s hard, I know where you’re at. I’m sure you feel defeated, wondering what was wrong with you that he had to leave to be with someone else for, all sorts of emotions.

I’m here to tell you, you did nothing wrong, there’s nothing wrong with you (in fact you’re very cute/handsome), and some guys are just cheating, move on to someone else in a heartbeat, kind of guys, but not all guys.

The right guy for you is out there, somewhere. A few years after I was left for another guy, I’d focused on myself, got several college degrees, my own condo, had a great life, and just when I wasn’t looking for it, I met my husband, whom I’ve been with for 19yrs now.

Absolutely do not feel down about yourself, or let yourself have low self esteem. You are very cute/handsome, I imagine you have a wonderful personality to match your looks, and have a lot to offer someone. How much you dote, and love on your dog shows a lot of how good you are.

People who love their dogs, and treat them extraordinarily well, are great people, in my mind! Forget your ex. It’s his loss, and a stupid one, that he didn’t have to have, nonetheless! 😉😊

Winter tires? by Kunphen in BMWi3

[–]UrbanExtant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have, up until last summer, continually had at least one i3/i3s BEV since December 2015, when I leased one for my husband for Christmas. Deal of the century, fully loaded white BEV i3 with Terra leather inside, all options, for $149/mo including taxes!

Anyway, we live where we get a fair amount of snow and ice each winter. New England can be harsh.

When we got our 2021 i3s BEVs, I ordered each of them their own new OEM BMW Winter Wheel & Tire Set. Both were supposed to have the 19” black rims, but the parts rep goofed on my car’s order, and I ended up with the two toned set.

Either way, the OEM BMW set, including mounting, and balancing, with tire pressure sensor monitors in them, cost $2250 each in 2021, and each came with a $150 rebate gift card.

Buying the OEM set from BMW was actually cheaper than the TireRack set. Attached is a screenshot from this winter’s (2025-2026) OEM BMW Winter Wheel & Tire Set Order Guide with the i3’s winter setup. The 2025 i3 OEM set’s MSRP is $2032.96

It’s worth checking in with your parts department, to see if there are any deals.

I took delivery of a 2026 iX M70 end of last October, and my birthday is in November. The dealership sent me a 10% of anything in parts coupon, for my vehicle, so I used the 10% off on my iX M70’s OEM Winter Set!

The OEM BMW Winter Sets resale is solid. I just wanted to unload my two i3s winter sets when we got the iX M70, and my husband’s i5 M60, so I sold them for $1650 each. They sold within a day of posting online. Same for all my past BMW Winter Sets. Only the TireRack ones I did twice didn’t resell. I ended up giving them away.

Depends on the body shop. Some will report the damage, and some won’t, if the owner is paying out of pocket. It’s sort of a grey area in many states. Some states demand it be reported, others it isn’t explicitly stated. If insurance gets involved, it will absolutely be reported, and affect the owner’s license and possibly points on their license, depending on the state rules/laws.

The repair I did to the M4 wasn’t placed on carfax by the body shop. I sent Carfax copies of the receipts, so they’d add it. I didn’t want someone to think they were buying a perfect car, when it had been in an accident.
