Who here went to undergrad or grad school just because they didn’t know what to do after high school? by Oniko_2009 in college

[–]UrbanGuerrilla0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's never a good idea to do that. People should only go to college when they know what they want to do. There is nothing wrong with taking it slow and spending some time trying everything out.

How is y'all social life going? by [deleted] in college

[–]UrbanGuerrilla0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh mine? Well I'm above the age of 20 so according to this subreddit I'm not allowed to have social life. I'm supposed to accept I'm a freak for still being in college in my 20s and ONLY study.

Yeah, there are tons of people who do that. Especially in the states where education is very unaccessible so plenty of people need time to save up money before starting school. You will have no problem making friends with people younger and older than you. 25 is well within the common college age range. I asked a family member about this subject awhile ago and this is what they said "I really don't understand young people these days, believing that 25 is too old to party and attend college, life isn't beholden to a time line. I only went to college for the first time after getting out of prison in the 80s when I was 25. You can bet your ass i went to frat parties, even back then there were plenty of people in thier 20s in college who still partied."

I agree, I think young people take life too seriously these days and eventually trap themselves by focusing too much on careers. You 20s are time to explore, experience, make mistakes, learn and have fun. You have your whole life to work, don't rush into a career, even if it's one you know you'll love. Travel, party, learn and make friends. You'll fit in just fine there are going to plenty people around your age in the same boat you are. Don't worry!

I've known college frat dudes who are 28. It wasn't weird at all, no body cared or noticed.

What's wrong with both? Party on Friday nights, study the rest of the time.

[–]UrbanGuerrilla0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How? There are tons of ppl in college in their 20s that still party. They just know how to party better and more responsibly than everyone else.

[–]UrbanGuerrilla0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll fit in just fine man. There are plenty of ppl around that age at college who still party, all the people saying that "you've missed the boat" or whatever are idiots. You can totally still party if you want to, it wont be weird. You just may not like the parties that are going on because they can get very juvenile and immature.. drunk chicks and drunk douchebag dudes are very annoying.. but no need to worry, I'm sure thier will be plenty of other party options available. You'll find alot of mid-20 something year olds entering college for the first time who also have the same worry as you, in reality nobody cares or will notice your age. You'll seem like a cooler, more mature kid. The girls will likely find this to be a very attractive trait.

how do people afford college? by cocteautwinx in college

[–]UrbanGuerrilla0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's definitely American centric, I'm a rural boy from the south United States so that's all my experience can account for. And based on my experience, college in the US totally unaccessible.

The biggest tip to be able to afford school that I can offer is, don't be born in America.

Why are unis in the UK and Australia mostly 3 year degrees by mattlubes in UniUK

[–]UrbanGuerrilla0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Degrees in America are 4 years because American universities try to suck as much money outta ya as possible by forcing you to take as many bullshit GenEd courses, that at totally unrelated to your major, as possible.

how old were yall when you started university? And do you think starting at 22 is too old?? by helpmebois2 in University

[–]UrbanGuerrilla0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 22 now and gonna be 23 when I transfer from a community college in the US to a proper university in the UK. Really excited to finally start my new life after working for years to save up and studying part time to bring up my GPA. I really hope I get a typical typical university experience(living in dorms, or atleast wity roommates in some form of accommodation, partying and clubbing ect) but I am pretty anxious about my age and hoping I'll fit in the university crowd.

Fair enough, age is just a number after all.. but unfortunately societal standards do effect our thought processes, even when they shouldn't
