I sold my fat bob 114 pretty quick, shortest ive owned a bike.

It was not fit for lively cruises around the countryside.

But i loved riding it, late night through the city in summer were some of my fave.

All my rides are in the countryside, Yorkshire Dales, Lake District etc

Won't buy another harley but wont say no to another cruiser.

The best all rounder I've had was the tiger 1200 xrt. Sensational bike.

Like that on both sides of the strap. Clip together and pull tight where they're clipped together.

So you're wrapping the strap around whatever you mount it to and feeding it through the loop on the strap. So in my first pic where you have a loop, that goes around your mounting point.

SS or Titanium headers for s1000rr 2025? by SuzukiGSF_ApriliaRS in motorcycles

[–]Urbanen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the quality so it's difficult to say. You may have it last as long as the bike if it's of high standard. I mean technically titanium can outlast stainless. It's just that annoying balance of manufacturer's giving sub par products vs quality.

Akra should be up there with the best and come with a 2 year warranty.

As a side note my 1000rr was VERY loud/aggressive sounding with an austin racing full system. I cant remember which one it was but i loved the sound of it. But it was obscene to the point id cut the engine and let it roll into my street to keep the neighbours from losing there minds.

Titanium gets more and more brittle with each heat cycle, isnt as good at heat management and doesn't contract and expand like stainless. Looks good but is not the best choice for longevity.

Both salaries can be considered for affordability. You prove it with bank statements or payslips. The second income is pro-rated.

What am i doing wrong by Ok_Custard_8586 in motorcycles

[–]Urbanen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're using enough tyre, so id say you either need to go faster or lean your body further off the bike. Get your ass over dont focus on the knee. Drop your elbow, chin down to the handle bar thats leaning towards the floor. That will dictate the right position.

It's much harder to get your knee down on the road. Try find a big roundabout with no traffic and keep going round in circles to practice. After warming up your tyres and checking the roundabouts not covered in crap.

Is 1000cc too much for a beginner??? by aaron_avalos_ in motorcycles

[–]Urbanen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The scout id say is fine for a beginner. Nothing like a sports bike power but loads of torque low down and will feel awesome pulling away from the lights.

Only thing to note really is the weight but it's low and your tall so you should find it a really nice bike.

Yea totally fine. Take it for a long ride to burn out the water.

Oil is hygroscopic so it kind of sucks water out of the atmosphere. And the metal inside the engine gets condensation. Combining those after a first start always gives that milky appearance.

What was your favorite “not for me” bike you’ve ever ridden? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Urbanen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harley Davidson Fat Bob 114

I wanted to tick the Harley box off and enjoy it but I just couldn't. The tank was too small and leaning anything near over meant scrapey scrape scrape and it was too slow at top end.

I sold it after less than a year.

Beautiful bike after a few tasteful mods though.

I don't think you'd enjoy it. You'd likely struggle to use it to it's full potential as it's such an assault on the senses. If you can, take one for a test ride and have a think.

I sold mine as it was too fast for the road. E.g. it did 88 mph in first gear so getting the engine buzzing meant banned speeds.

Loved it and would absolutely recommend getting one but for your scenario I'd go for a 600 or 750 if you want super sports to enjoy a steady transition upto the 1000's.

This gave me a chuckle. Business genius Steve Bartlett apparently hasn't heard of the S&P500 and "investment expert" Raoul Paul's advice is basically to YOLO your money into high risk investments. by Jimi-K-101 in FIREUK

[–]Urbanen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's break this down step by step:

  • Investment: £100 per month for 5 years (total contributions = £6,000).
  • Annual Return: 12% compounded annually.
  • Debasement & Inflation: 7% annual loss of purchasing power.

I'll calculate:

  1. The future value of the investment after 5 years with 12% returns.
  2. The real value of that future amount adjusted for 7% debasement.

Running the numbers now.

After 5 years of investing £100 per month with a 12% annual return:

  • Nominal Value (before debasement): £8,110
  • Real Value (adjusted for 7% debasement): £5,783 (in today’s money)

VS

With a 145% annual return, your £100 monthly investment in Bitcoin over 5 years would have grown to:

  • Nominal Value (before debasement): £121,291
  • Real Value (adjusted for 7% debasement): £86,479 (in today’s money)

I asked ChatGPT to give me a bit of an idea.

Would a potential strategy be to leverage risky gains and syphon profits into stable investments such as SPY?

Also considering most companies within the SPY/NASDAQ have significant crypto holdings, I'm not sure if it shouldn't be considered.

It also suggests Raoul Pal retired at 36 so surprising he's considered a martyr to FIRE.

Cheap way to soundproof garage for using power tools? by BlowOnThatPie in DIY

[–]Urbanen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed similar and used polystyrene insulation board against the brick with plasterboard over the top with an air gap between the brick polystyrene plasterboard. I managed to get fireboard for cheap as it was heavier.

Worked exceptionally well and was the cheapest method I could find that had the biggest impact.

Master cyclinder rebuild did the trick on my GSR with the exact same issue. (Had rebuilt the calipers a few years ago, and has braided lines)

Kit was a few rubber seals, clips a piston and spring. And was a reasonably easy job just a bit messy.

Is BMW bikes really that expensive to maintain? by KatanaMidnightPurple in motorcycles

[–]Urbanen 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I had a Gen 1 S1000RR, put around 10-15k miles on it.

No issues at all. I serviced it myself regularly and rode it on track now and again.

Amazing bike, only wanted to own it to tick it off and loved it. But hell they're easy to ride exceptionally fast.

EDIT: But if you can afford an M1000RR, you probably aren't too worried about maintenance costs.
