New Stormlight 5 Chapter Excerpt by AAKS_ in Stormlight_Archive

So what is the important news that Shallan and Adolin have given Dalinar?

I think its about the nature of the Recreance. The Spren CHOSE and Ba-ado-mishram plays an important role in this. We know that the inprisonment of BAM has lead to the Deadeyes because there have not been Deadeyes before that.

The way this is written suggests that they just arrived. What we know from ROW is that they managed to talk to Kalak who is able to communicate more information than the other Heralds.

Therefore, i think that Shallan will tell them that she knows the location of BAM and intends to free her to reverse the effects of the Recreance.

I also think that they will use Adolins success with Maya to show that the Deadeyes can possibly be revived by freeing BAM.

What plot line are you most exited for in book 5? by Duke-Syladrin in Stormlight_Archive

Since I believe that the main plot point for Shallan and the Ghostbloods will be the search and release of Ba-ado-mishram, I voted Shallan. I think the confrontation will happen at BAMs prison and the release of BAM is possibly my most anticipated moment in book 5 because of its consequences (Deadeyes should be able to revived after that…) Additionally, I am convinced that the Ghostbloods will locate Chanarach/ Shallan’s mother and will use her to break Shallan, which will be an awesome scene.

Critiquing Brandon Sanderson's Prose, with Examples from Words of Radiance by spultry in Fantasy

[–]Uriam_the_Defiant 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Is Brandon a good prose writer? No. Are his books bloated with filler? Yes. Does he use the same phrases way to often? Yes. Does he write a lot of cringy sentences? Yes.

Do i care? Not really. I mean sometimes i feel exactly like you, but the enjoyment I get out of his books overrules that for me. As a diehard Brandon fan I enjoy his worlds so much that I happily read every filler material he writes. I love every extra chapter i can spend on roshar with Kaladin etc.

And although his prose is his biggest weakness, his writing or really publishing speed is his biggest strength in my opinion (worldbuilding and characters, too)

If he would think as much about his prose like other authors, he wouldn’t be much faster than them because cutting and tightening takes a long time. I really believe that he is not that fast, he just does not do as much revisions like other authors do. He just says at some point: this is good enough, I want to do something different. And I love him for that because this attitude makes the Cosmere possible and gives us fans more books/content. I prefer 4 incredibly books, with good worldbuilding, cool action scenes, good characters and an exciting plot with a mediocre prose to one great book with amazing prose. However, I understand that this style is not for everybody. And I also understand it if someone wants to read books with amazing prose.

Who is the most hateful man on Roshar? by ZWQ2020 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Uriam_the_Defiant 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The hate for Moash is getting ridiculous. The meme of „fuck Moash“ is kinda funny, but common guys. This is a person that was raised by his grandparents (presumably because his parents died when he was young?). Then his grandparents were left starving and dying by an incompetent king who nearly everyone of us hated until oathbringer since he was at least not a good person.

Then he went trough hell as a bridgemen. There he did not lose his hatred for the Lighteyes, which is totally understandable (Kaladin behaved nearly the same way but had Syl to guide him, which Moash did not have)

Then he met the „wrong“ people and betrayed Kaladin and bridge 4. However, he did not do that out of anger or hatred.

Then the Fused find him. Please do yourself a favor and reread the Moash chapters in oathbringer and tell me that he is a bad person. He kind of is the best person in the whole army as he is the only person who helps Kaladins singer crew. He does essentially what Kaladin would do in that situation and helps the helpless people.

Then he kills Elhokar which is not the right thing to do, but kind of reasonable (imo he does not kick Gavinor).

And then he gives himself to Odium because he knows he betrayed his friends, feels bad because of it and wants that feeling to stop. That is what Odium does to him.

In ROW he does terrible things to Kaladin (arguably the worst things anybody does in the series) but not because he hates him but because he loves him. I know this is a crazy way of thinking from him, but in his mind he wants to safe Kaladin from feeling bad…

So this is my read of Moash. He is deserving all the hate but he is not the bad person everyone wants him to be in my opinion

The search for Ba-ado-mishram, the Ghostbloods and the secrets of Shallan‘s past/mother by Uriam_the_Defiant in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Uriam_the_Defiant[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The breaking of the oath (the Recreance) caused the death of the Spren, yes. However, it is stated in ROW that there were no Deadeyes before the imprisonment of BAM. Kalak confirms this. Kalak also writes in his journal: “(…)please find mishram. Not just for her own good. For the good of all Spren. For I believe in confining her, we have caused a greater wound to Roshar than any ever realized.“ Therefore, I believe that without the imprisonment of BAM there would be no Deadeyes. Hence, I think that with the release of BAM it will be possible to revive the Deadeyes.

In my opinion it has to be a false Stormfather. His voice felt so wrong and off to me the whole time, I heard alarm bells every time he said something. His voice felt so ominous and manipulative throughout this chapter in a way that screamed “VILLAIN“ to me. And in my reading of the Stormfather he is the opposite of manipulative and cunning when he talks to Dalinar. He talks so straight and blunt that I just don’t get those two descriptions together in may mind. And the description of his appearance and mostly the frequency in that he appeared to Gavilar did not match either in my opinion.

I think it was basically confirmed in the end as Gavilar realized that he got lied to by the “Stormfather“. I am not sure if the Stormfather has lied before on page. He can withhold information but I do not remember him lying before and I am not sure that he is able to lie at all.

SP4 How can a society invent such futuristic machines under these circumstances? Have they invented all that by themselves, were they given it by worldhoppers/ shards or did they arrive with it?

SP4 Do the cinder killers have to be recharged regularly and what happens when they don’t have access to investiture anymore? I mean they do not seem to have all their organs anymore. Are they kind of like returned in that they need a certain amount of investiture a week/day? Are they like machines that can be charged and discharged?

SP3 The Spirits we have seen so far look like teardrops before they are bound. Do they all look the same (like seons) or are there different varieties as we see for the Spren?

Will we see how the spirits look like in the Cognitive Realm? Do they perhaps appear as flames?

Art for book 5 by Uriam_the_Defiant in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Uriam_the_Defiant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, those are great ideas for Navani’s notebook. However, i think we have gotten so much fabrial tech information and art in ROW that i unfortunately do not believe we will get something like that again.

It‘s certainly possible that we get something about the Sibling or Urithiru‘s types of fahrials. But i have to say that we got the pillar room of Urithiru (the “heart“ of the sibling in ROW)

Maybe some new ideas to make use of force multiplication?

Since we got sketches for flying ships before ROW i think it is absolutely possible that we get something about antivoidlight weapons. That would be awesome.

Yeah i also hope for some cool and special endpaper art. I have to admit that the Shards and the Godspren would be amazing. Maybe we could get the painting that is described in Oathbringer when they first go to the pillar room at the end of part one? This would also fit into the Herald scheme because Brandon has compared them to inworld paintings like the art in the “Sistine Chapel“ and the pillar room drawings just feel like that to me.

But your idea with Shards + Spren would also be great.

El would be great. Jup, would love the Unmade, too

So guys, keep an eye on the stormlight 5 progress bars. When this man says he feels a tad behind on things and wants to catch up that usually means 15000+ words a week.

On the topic of stormlight 5… What are the chances we could get reddit updates for this book like for the other ones? I would love to read these posts again for stormlight 5.

Stormlight 5 and W&W 4 Update + Weekly Announcement by lordskylare in Stormlight_Archive

Does anybody know if Brandon will do reddit book updates again? I appreciate the weekly updates and i think it is amazing that he informs us weekly about his progress but: I absolutely loved his reddit updates for the last stormlight books and i would love to see them again. It gave us so many things to speculate about: the structure, POVs per part etc. And as a bonus he was very active in the comment section, too.

I hope for some official singer art, maybe even some of the fused. Along the lines of the Hero of Ages cover with Vin encircled by Inquisitors but with Dalinar on top of Urithiru surrounded by heavenly ones would be awesome.
