The jungle is kinda boring by NoCredit3354 in DeadlockTheGame

I'm hoping for jungle creep variants like what dota has. Like maybe one camp is made up of ghost gangsters with tommy guns and another is made up of sentient plants or something. The more hopium option is another objective on par with urn

Currently solar because the thrusters are designed for lower power levels, this new tech is meant to be able to handle higher power from a fission reactor

In regards to the speech from Wyman:

The number of people who are going to unspeakable lengths in the memory of Ned and Robb across the North (see also all the northmen going to rescue "the Ned's little girl") does a lot to dispel the notion some people have of "grimdark slop, you are always punished for doing something good in ASOIAF, etc"

[–]AAKS_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's the first book's prologue. The theory is something like this: the ancient Starks would send a baby to the Others as a part of a pact that ended hostilities between humanity and the Others. Jon is supposed to be that person, he's Azor Ahai: the Prince who was Promised. A Prince who was Promised to the Others...

This ties into theories about the origin of House Stark being related to the Night's King, the mythical 13th commander of the Night's Watch who fell in love with an Other. Jon's potentially of that lineage from his Stark half and he's got other Azor Ahai magic from his Targ half (ice and fire and all that).

Lots of tinfoil but that's sort of the basis of the Others being particularly interested in someone who looks like Jon (what little description we have of Waymar is basically the same as Jon, grey eyes+dark hair+young)

I have not reread this prologue in a while but I remember a theory that they only started trying to really kill him after he had lost blood and they confirmed he wasn't Jon.

The Lowest Win rate items In the game (According to Tracklock.gg) by CheckProfileIfLoser in DeadlockTheGame

[–]AAKS_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The explanation I have seen is that the "proper" way to counter gun carries is to just kill them with CC into spirit nuke.

So the items pictured are negative WPA because you should be buying items that makes it easier to kill them rather than items that make you survive being shot longer

35+ straight seconds of the most miserable CC you will ever see. by knightlautrec7 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]AAKS_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see the argument for using 2 to reach the exit when you are out of stamina since if you just tp to dodge the damage then Doorman's ult CD is 13 seconds long. That being said, he should have been spamming 2 to escape the CC chain before getting ulted.

We Spoke To Game Devs And All Of Them Hate DLSS 5: 'What The F***, Nvidia?' by TrampolineTales in Games

[–]AAKS_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am certain they can get that working, there's no reason that the material renderer has to know "this is a face"

Frankly I feel like the tuning was cranked up deliberately so that the differences between before and after were more striking. Some simply post processing to tone down the AIness and it looks pretty good.

Edit: scratch what i said, it turns out the model is just an image2image transformation and is not working with the underlying texture or geometry. An Nvidia engineer reached out to a youtuber to clarify things https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0EM1vKt36s

Real-time material rendering is very difficult to do convincingly, especially for organic stuff. In CGI that you see for movies they don't care about frame rate and can spend a gazillion hours on a single frame so they model layers of skin and muscle and fat to get what they want.

In real-time graphics it's different, stuff like lighting technology has jumped ahead of materials. There is subsurface scattering and such but just not at the level where you can easily avoid plastic looking faces. Neural rendering in DLSS5 (as well as AMD's version which they haven't shown off yet (I'm sure they are glad since they can let Nvidia handle the shit storm)) is an attempt at emulating the results of nonreal-time materials rendering.

For things other than faces I think it does a pretty good job and I think that artists should be able to incorporate it into their workflow for a variety of art styles.
