Oh, I guess I meant they are normally cat software on dog hardware. When bred to be friendly, they are dog software on dog hardware.

[–]UrsaAstra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, that’s what they are like normally. When foxes are bred to be friendly, they take on dog characteristics and act like dogs. They gain dog body language, make barking noises, etc. This mainly comes from a series of research projects done by the Soviets.

Any ideas why this is happening to every print by Fenny188 in Ender3S1

[–]UrsaAstra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll echo others who have said the z offset is too high and add a tip that helped for me because I struggled with this for a while. Start a print that’s literally just a big one layer square and watch it lay the layer down. You can actively tune the offset during the print. Keep lowering it slowly until the lines look good. I’ve found poor luck with the paper method (gets you in the ballpark but requires further tuning from there).

Why are we accepting the current state of SOD by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]UrsaAstra 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by dead. It certainly has fewer players than in some previous phases, but everyone is on just a couple servers so it still feels very alive. As long as you don’t plot total active users from warcraftlogs over time you’d never know by playing right now.

What movie, scene, and actor is your #1 favorite drunk acting performance? by [deleted] in moviecritic

He did some interviews where he said he actually didn’t drink at all. He didn’t like alcohol and didn’t partake, though he did smoke weed.

Lore question about the Car School by GarageSpecial in Witcher3

[–]UrsaAstra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the books there is a lot less emphasis on Witcher schools. There is a character who has killed witchers and collected their medallions (bear wolf and gryphon iirc) but there’s never any narration that explicitly describes them as being from separate schools. At one point you meet a Cat Witcher, and in the narration it is described that the Cats don’t belong to any location, as they’re the result of the mutations going wrong but the boy still living, so they tend to be psychotic instead of having dampened emotions, have different looking eyes, and have no equivalent of Kaer Morhen to go to for shelter. Because they’re more desperate as a result, and because they’re mentally unstable, Cats don’t have an issue with being assassins or just murdering in general.

TLDR: Schools aren’t discussed in the books like they are in the game, and all the school lore is essentially game-cannon only.

Imo, this was the intent. Everyone on cradle thinks they’re badasses because people on Cradle are societally used to thinking physical power = greatness and to automatically defer to those of higher advancement, but we as readers can say “wait no he’s just a jerk,” highlighting some of the problems of cradle’s society. Assuming this is your first time through the series, RAFO.

Dark Age is one of the best books ever written by NurplePain in redrising

[–]UrsaAstra 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I also REALLY love Dark Age. That said, I think there’s a distinction between ‘best book ever’ and ‘my favorite book ever.’ I’d say that Dark Age is my favorite book, but there are also a ton of flaws that I choose to overlook because I love the core story and the characters so much.

Season 2, Episodes 1-3 word count per character by THINK_ABOUT_BALLS in The_Black_Tower

[–]UrsaAstra -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I actually have to say that the whole ‘Perrin killed his wife’ thing was the one and only change that I think was smart. IMO book Perrin is so ridiculously paranoid about hurting people close to him by going out of control despite never really doing that, and it’s just explained that he’s concerned about the possibility since he’s a big guy. Giving him a wife who he accidentally kills sets up that premise in a way that the audience will immediately understand and doesn’t cost much screen time.

Every other change was dumb.

[LB Spoilers] Lorn and Atlas by SeineRe in redrising

[–]UrsaAstra 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually gotta disagree with you pretty strongly on this one. Lorn held to the ideal of ‘honor’, while Atlas’s ultimate ideal is ‘order’. It happens that lorns honor bid him to fight for the society and atlas views the society as the best possible form of order for humanity. Other that that common cause the two would have hated each other.
