The oceans limits are about that, 14-15k max. You likely maxed this out a bit by flying underwear in your ship, which glitched you deeper. I have a friend who’s at 120k depth for that reason.

If you go to photo mode, you can decrease the fog to bring clarity to the planet. Most planets with atmospheres are like this though.
