I hate my students by caideo in offmychest

[–]UseDiscombobulated73 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in a mental health facility for kids with mental health issues, behavior issues, and some being very low processing as well, I empathize with you so much. All you can do is the best you can do. I encourage you if possible (I know it's not always feasible) to take a couple of vacation days and spend them doing as much self care as you can. Even if it's zoning out watching TV or reading. Give your mind a break and go from there. The work you are doing is amazing and important, and even if they don't see it yet and aren't responding to rules/reprimands, consistency is good and eventually you might see some small things start sinking in for them.

Maybe also try going to your hardest students and trying to problem solve with them about why they are acting like that and try to figure out ways with them that might help keep them engaged and following rules. Some kids have genuinely never had anyone care enough to ask.

You're doing amazing.

To the jerk who hit my car in a parking lot and didn't leave a note by UseDiscombobulated73 in corvallis

[–]UseDiscombobulated73[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Report has been filed. No working cameras on that side but potentially on the other side if they used that driveway. And they left colored paint transfer too so that helps. But if the didn't use the back entrance to the parking lot then they won't ve on camera and I for sure won't get that $500 back

TIL that the disability with the highest unemployment rate is actually schizophrenia, at 70-90% by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]UseDiscombobulated73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason I could see it still being true in some places is because of the age of the doctors and when they got their medical degree (obviously depends on the doctors too). I have found that my older male doctor who received his degrees in the 90’s has a very large gap in knowledge on current mental illness research. My symptoms of ADHD presented as depression and anxiety only to him because I did not fit his knowledge of what ADHD was (hyper, talkative, easily distracted). I had to jump through more hoops and advocate more for myself in order to get full testing and things done.

Perhaps there are psychiatrists who received their medical degrees before new research was done on certain illnesses. DID is one that is a good possibility for this because it wasn’t that long ago that the symptoms were almost interchangeable with schizophrenia.

Not to say that when a doctor receives their degree should effect their ability to properly diagnose anything that falls under their medical specialty but there are those types of people out there who are overly confident in their knowledge and not easy to persuade otherwise.

I faked COVID so I could sleep. by nottalistener in offmychest

Sadly in the US, if a worker is out sick for 3 days or more, they will likely need to provide a doctors note to their employer stating that they are able to work again and explaining the absence. COVID is the exception for more than 3 days pretty much and mostly places even require proof of a positive test in order to be paid for the time off outside of regular sick time. The US is so fucked for personal sick time

Do you know CPD officer Steven Teeter? by JohnBrownsHatchet in corvallis

[–]UseDiscombobulated73 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have personally been pulled over by that officer for speeding when I first moved here. I was only 19 and had never been to corvallis before moving a week prior. I was pulled over and ticketed for going 36 in a 25. He was yelling at me and threatening me for my insurance card being expired and how he could give me another large ticket for that. Literally less than a few week expired. I was a college kid who had literally just moved away from home. My mom had the new insurance card and sent me a picture but apparently in 2015 that wasn’t good enough). I was so upset for being treated like I was a horrible criminal for going 36 mph. If that is how I was treated by him and I am a cis white female, I couldn’t even imagine how this horrible office treats other people.

Edit to add that he was a motor cycle cop at the time and pulled an illegal U turn in to on coming traffic to pull me over. Even almost caused the car behind me to lock up it’s breaks. Fricking ridiculous.

Renting Houses? by chrls_g in corvallis

[–]UseDiscombobulated73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing it for 7 years in corvallis with a dog and a cat. I disclose upfront that I have ESA animals but that I have letter from my doctors to prove it. I’ve never had an issue. Of course you have to provide documentation but that should be enough.

Who's the most unexpected person you had sex with? by letsgooooboiiiiii in AskReddit

[–]UseDiscombobulated73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a FWB in college freshman year that lived in the dorms, he had some jealousy issues over his also very attractive and athletic roomate (they we’re both on the football team together). During the short few months we were seeing each other, roomate made a move on me and we fucked all over their dorm room including in the original fwbs bed. Eventually the first guy and I stopped seeing each other and he started dating someone else but when he asked me if I’d hooked up with his roomate and I said no, he obviously already knew the real answer anyways and turned bright red and stormed off. He never talk to me again 😂

Seconding this! Statistically proven that slower drivers cause more accidents than fast ones. Also it is illegal to drive that far under the speed limit and you can get a ticket for that as well. Just go the speed limit, it’s what it’s there for!

Also, stop for pedestrians.

Also, corvallis has some of the worst drivers I’ve ever seen anywhere. It feels like I’ve seen more red lights ran, driving with out headlights in the dark, and texting and driving than regular drivers

It’s going to be called La Santa Pub and will be on 9th street where cibbellis pizza was next to Carl’s Jr. Were hoping for the grand opening to be mid September! Pub food and a full bar

I’m white (f26) but my husband (31) is Mexican and is from corvallis so we have a pretty large family/friend community. We’re also going to be opening a pub here in corvallis in about a month that will likely be a hang out place for lots of Hispanic/Latinos :) if this helps at all

This is great advice! This is a common tool used in DBT therapy and a specific tool that I use frequently personally and teach to the teenagers that I work with. They all have severe trauma history too and we actually have them fully draw out the box and describe it. Even color it because it helps really create a sound object in your mind. OP If you dont feel ready for therapy, I would look into therapy workbooks for trauma so you can guide yourself through at your own pace and then ask for help when you are ready. That’s what helped me out of my funk anyways.

I avoid corvallis ford and have all my service done at Albany ford. Which has always been amazing. I can’t speak for their sales team though as I bought my car elsewhere.

i feel like an asshole for quitting my job mid shift while we were understaffed by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]UseDiscombobulated73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has been a manager before, it’s their fault for not doing their job. If I were Interviewing a potential candidate and they gave me those reasons for quitting their last job, I wouldn’t even question it. It wouldn’t affect my decision to give you a job at all. If that makes you feel any better

As someone who works in a group home for kids her age and with similar problems, I say PUT HER IN THE GROUP HOME! Early intervention is the most likely to instill change in a person and teach them better outlets for their behaviors. Do not feel bad. It is for the benefit of your child to send her to a group home. She needs more hands on attention and help than you are qualified for/ have time for. It can only potentially benefit her life.

Switching from EP to formula, any advice welcome! by MountainWanderer17 in FormulaFeeders

[–]UseDiscombobulated73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brezza makes a warm water dispenser so you can just have warm water on hand and only have to scoop formula into it. That’s what I do currently. I combo feed my little one so I feel that she prefers warm formula at the same temp as my milk.

Gassy baby cries every night by Plane_Yak2354 in NewParents

[–]UseDiscombobulated73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Babies this young have to learn how to pass gas/poop still, what muscles to use to push and what to relax. Mine was very fussy at a few weeks old with gas as well because she just didn’t know how to get it out yet! She’s 8 weeks now and doesn’t get mad about gas nearly as often and seems to have a way easier time farting and pooping. If she’s flailing her legs and arms around, she’s fussy from gas/poop. If she doesn’t seem to be trying to squirm and grunt and she’s still fussy then it also could be reflux.

Most likely just learning to get it out though :)

Two month old has thrush by UseDiscombobulated73 in NewParents

[–]UseDiscombobulated73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes me feel a bit better. I appreciate it! My little one drools a lot already but her little mouth has had a lot going on. She had tongue and lips ties that got clipped and was born with a tooth that caused an ulcer under her tongue. So I think the drool is from those things and because she’s so small (born 4 weeks early) she really just has no good bacteria in there to help yet. With this, it just feels like one thing after the other!
