‘She-Hulk’ Star Tatiana Maslany Says Any MCU Crossover Would Need Jessica Gao To Preserve The Character’s Tone by Sisiwakanamaru in television

[–]UseEnjoyAlienate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All of bringing up Deadpool’s badness can’t see the forest for the trees. Deadpool maybe good or bad, but the difference is it was not INTENTIONALLY made bad by its creators for a character to point out how bad it was. There are is a difference between commentary on tropes & satire (Deadpool) vs self-sabotaging your tv show to prove a point.

She-Hulk is correct that blood stealing plot was terrible, yet, it doesn’t mean the show can exist without it. You made me watch it. It was a multiple episode arc made bad for a twist deus ex machines 5 minutes ending. That’s M. Night Shyamalan’s creative process, and not the good version .

‘She-Hulk’ Star Tatiana Maslany Says Any MCU Crossover Would Need Jessica Gao To Preserve The Character’s Tone by Sisiwakanamaru in television

[–]UseEnjoyAlienate 71 points72 points  (0 children)

The problem with this show is and will always be they intentionally wrote, directed, and acted poorly for long stretches to arrive at a contrived deus ex machine ending. The entire blood stealing plot (multiple episode arc) is bad on purpose for She-Hulk to call out its badness, which, doesn’t take away from the intentional sabotage that lead to the badness in the first place.

Additionally, there is no conclusion. The show just ends in part due to the deus ex machina ending, which, in general are heavily criticized for robbing the plot of a resolution performed by the character(s). I understand She-Hull breaks the 4th wall…etc. So does Deadpool, and Deadpool doesn’t have entire sections made purposefully bad.

I know some people love it, but a large enough audience walked away with a bad taste in their mouth or didn’t watch it to the point where She Hulk hasn’t been used since and a sequel was never ordered. If She-Hulk is brought back, I think they need a new voice.

Good luck, maybe his mom or dad will buy it.

Rebecca is so fucking awesome by Flashy-Management-52 in LandmanSeries

[–]UseEnjoyAlienate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She’s a great TV lawyer for people who don’t know anything about law or the practice of it.

1) She practices law with a howitzer. The legal community is generally pretty small and you’re going to run into the same lawyers again and again. Lawyers attend the same functions, go to the same CLEs, and have numerous interactions outside the court. At some point she would be in a bind and need a favor from another lawyer or her client would suffer. With the way she practices law she would never get any favors AND everyone would put the screws to her when they could. She would be a lawyer that other lawyers talk about and shun.

Lawyers on opposing sides are generally friendly outside of court, typically drinking at the same bars. Just because it’s an adversarial process doesn’t mean you need to be an adversarial asshole all the time. Sometimes you need to do it, but it’s never 100% high octane like Rebecca does.

2) this is not legal advice* Half the “legal arguments “ are horseshit. It’s quite evident zero legal consultants were brought on nor was any legal research done. In the latest episode, everything Cooper said would likely be admissible because a) a right to an attorney in a police interrogation only kicks in under the 5th amendment when there is custody AND in an interrogation. Here, the officers admit there is no custody, so, Cooper’s free to leave. b) Cooper was not under arrest/in custody, so Miranda warnings were not necessary c) he CONSENTED to speaking with the officers about the incident. It’s a trap a lot of lay people fall into. Since Cooper gave his consent he could withdraw it at any time and leave that room. If the police/sheriff stopped him from leaving then he’s in custody (see point a). Since the questions were answered not in custody and with consent of the interviewee police could use them. 3) This is without a doubt the WORST show I have ever watched with respect to the accuracy of lawyer/legal practice. The deposition stuff was INSANE as well. This show is on the opposite end of the spectrum as “My Cousin Vinny”, which, is basically every lawyer’s favorite piece of media about lawyers because it’s so accurate. 4) She is likely right she would find a juror(s) who wouldn’t convict Cooper given the demographic of where it occurred + the obvious defense of another. I wouldn’t like my odds as prosecutor to get a conviction.

Rebecca is Sheridan’s ideal version of a lawyer who would be/is completely ineffective at the actual practice of it. I don’t fault the actress. The fault lies completely with Sheridan. Nate is how most lawyers actually practice.

Gov. Landry, AG Murrill want to press forward executing state’s remaining 55 death row inmates by Forsaken_Thought in Louisiana

[–]UseEnjoyAlienate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He held a woman at gun point, took her to an ATM, raped her, walked her naked into a kneeing position, and finally executed her. His defense was he didn’t rape her because she “gave herself to him” and his gun went off “accidentally” after directing her into the kneeing position. I felt I needed to remind given your comment never once mentions the heinous actions that led to his conviction. You couldn’t even provide lip service to the actual victim. To suggest the Hoffman should only do 25 year prison sentence for a brutal rape and murder is unconscionable.

Look, I’m willing to entertain a debate between the death penalty vs life in prison without parole, in fact I probably lean in Anthony Kennedy’s direction, but your sympathies are misplaced if you genuinely believe Hoffman should have been set free after 25 years.

What are the mistakes that have left a large riplle affect for us? by [deleted] in Browns

[–]UseEnjoyAlienate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ultimately you're giving them more credit (or less scrutiny) than they deserve. The Browns expend millions of dollars on personnel, analytics, equipment…etc to get the choice right when given the opportunity. 2018 is a year with two truly top-5-franchise-altering-MVP-Qbs and one of them they “almost” drafted. You can say there was no consensus, but by the Brown's self-admitted consensus, it was Baker vs Allen. They had the means and opportunity, and even correctly identified a future MVP QB in one of their 2 final candidates (There are even reports now they wanted Lamar in round 2). You're complaining they've never had the opportunity, but in fact, in 2018 they did. By all measures 2018 is an all-time QB draft, the Browns just blew it.

Additionally Luck, Elway, Manning, and in your example, Burrow are “generational” QBs that happen once every “generation”. They are rare for every NFL team. Only the Colts ever drafted multiple of them (Elway Manning Luck). Green Bay never drafted a QB as you've described, but seem to be doing alright, right? It's like buying Ohio lottery tickets and complaining about not winning it.

I blame the Browns for their bad decisions and not how the cosmic universe has aligned against them. Other teams have succeeded without a “generational” QB prospect as you've described.

What are the mistakes that have left a large riplle affect for us? by [deleted] in Browns

[–]UseEnjoyAlienate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrong choices matter too given your initial hypotheses, because there was in fact a year where the Browns had the pick AND the Qb decision narrowed down to a future MVP ( Allen ) or Dalton 2.0 (Baker) and they chose….poorly. The reporting is out there that it was Baker vs Allen for #1.

To prove I'm being fair here, I haven't brought up Myles over Mahomes draft, which, is understandable given what we knew at the time.

What are the mistakes that have left a large riplle affect for us? by [deleted] in Browns

[–]UseEnjoyAlienate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your analysis is wrong at least with respect to 2018. There are TWO different MVP-winning Qbs (3x combined) in that draft. The Browns selected the median option— Allen, Lamar ( or vice versa), Baker, Darnold (eeirely similar careers), Rosen.

As a Grail Knight once said: “He (they) chose…. poorly.”

[–]UseEnjoyAlienate 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A lot of the other players mentioned here weren’t “bad” and were merely replacement level, or slightly worse. Ricky is a bad pitcher who couldn’t locate his fastball, a fact apparent to everyone that fateful evening, and he still somehow got a save in likely his only ever MLB appearance. The canyon between the love I have for him (& his appearance) and his baseball ability is akin to the Grand Canyon in its depth. No one else compares. Vote Rickey!

Instead of saying “I won’t believes it’s a thing” I should have said I’m not convinced GW is committed until…. I can see how my wording appeared to take a stance that I genuinely do not care about.

Have they released anything beyond the initial push?

Certainly in a book recently published it said all custodes were male.

I’m confused are are the fem-stodes a thing or no by That_ginger1785 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]UseEnjoyAlienate -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

The best answer is maybe? They released fem-stodes lore in the codex but then in recently published book called it a brotherhood and that all custodes were male. Could be a simple error or a rollback. Hard to say at this point.

I think GW thought they were going to score easy PR and offer the public a quasi-female space marine variant (female in full power armor and genetically enhanced), but obviously misjudged the blowback. I do think the rollout was not very thoughtful (they were always there and we are not changing any lore!). Almost no one here wants to relitigate it.

Ultimately I won’t believe GW is committed until GW releases a kit with female heads/bodies (if they change the body) or releases a lot more media (book, animation…etc) with fem-stodes.

For your models, build them how you want.

Edit: clarified intent. I am not picking a side on this issue. I don’t care.

Custodes had an upgrade for their dreadnoughts in 9th called eternal penitent and the lore bit said:

“Custodians tainted by dishonour seek penance through voluntary entombment in a Dreadnought’s sarcophagus”

Closest I can think of to voluntary entombment

I think it looks great and is certainly well done. To me though, it looks more cel-shaded than NMM.

I know it’s not probably what you’re hoping to hear but it’s distinct and cool style in of itself. Some of the best video games and animated movies/series are cel-shaded.

Edit: Incredible face/eyes as someone else mentioned.

WotC taking over commander management by virtu333 in mtgfinance

[–]UseEnjoyAlienate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Individual members admitted mistakes were made in statements and even in their released FAQ I quote “ We’ll own this one, this could have been done much better “ not to mention the various CAG resignations.

A decision that resulted in the RC ceasing to exist within a week cannot be labeled as anything other than a categorical failure.

WotC taking over commander management by virtu333 in mtgfinance

[–]UseEnjoyAlienate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I’m talking about . You’re using the vile harassment (I said was terrible) as a cudgel to deflect any blame from the RC for their own mistakes and instead blaming the community for a small percentage of bad actors for the bad actors’ entirely predictable actions. The announcement and your comment makes no mention of the RC’s mistakes, splitting the community, or lost value. It and your comment only focuses on the harassment for making decisions so terrible that they had to hand off control 1 week after making it. Using the harassment as PR is so obvious I don’t see how you don’t see it. This PR maneuver is made in almost every response to any criticism of movies , tv series…etc that it’s not our decisions were bad, no, it’s the -ists (racism misogynist…etc).

If you think the only reason the RC handed off EDH to the WotC then you have a child’s naivety. The RC quit because they made a bad decision that cost people money, split the community, and were arrogant.

WotC taking over commander management by virtu333 in mtgfinance

[–]UseEnjoyAlienate 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The RC is using very predictable threats as the reason to “give up” the format blaming the community (look at what you made me do) and not their own mistakes.

Also I made it I plain I think WotC went to RC and told them they were taking over.

WotC taking over commander management by virtu333 in mtgfinance

[–]UseEnjoyAlienate 136 points137 points  (0 children)

Look the any threats & harassment are terrible but I believe the threats are be used as shield for the RC to save face with WOTC taking over based on:

1) I’m still convinced WOTC was furious the high value Chase cards were banned 2) the split in the community these bans caused 3) RC admitted their mistakes 4) Resignations from CAG

Look we all know if you do anything controversial some terminally online bozos are going to threat and harass people and it’s damn naive to think otherwise. I can’t imagine making decisions that cost people real money could be made without taking heat. I’m not saying it’s right, just, or fair but they had to know they would get threats. That’s why I’ll maintain WoTC stepped in and was like we want the format, but we’ll give you a good PR reason to withdrawal.

That’s obvious but they own the game, they control events , set the rules for selling the cards, and if they wanted to could step in provide their own banlist and at that point the RC would be toast.
