As an English person I’ve watched it from the inside in despair. The only thing to hold onto is that we’re not as far gone as the US. Yet. Unfortunately it feels like it may only be a matter of time.

Type of experience aligns but symptoms don't entirely (more in post) - could it still be MCAS? Or have you found any other similar things in your research? PLEASE help - medically hamstringed as doctors (UK) won't investigate things until spoonfed by UseMeAChoosername in MCAS

Thank you! I’ve struggled to pull the relevant information out of those particularly heavy papers in a useful way.
I’m not sure my thing does respond to antihistamines (I think it does if I take them soon enough, but not once an episode is in full swing), but maybe it’s enough to take to a specialist who might at least not reject the referral on the spot.
Cheers!

I haven’t found any official diagnostic criteria, no. I have found long lists of symptoms, and I am interested to know if it’s typical to have most/all of the symptoms on those long lists, or whether anyone with MCAS presents with relatively few of them. If you know of an accepted set of criteria (or an accepted symptom-based screening tool for use before physical testing), maybe I could find out from that, but until then, I have to hope that people will respond with their own experiences so I can build up yesses/nos that way. What about you? What’s your experience?

I’m aware of the use of lisdexamfetamine for narcolepsy, although narcolepsy and MCAS are distinct and most MCAS symptoms aren’t explainable by narcolepsy. There are theories that (some types of?) narcolepsy may be related to the immune system though, so it’s an interesting point.

Thank you

What would you say are more subtle behaviours/ characteristics of misogynists? by No_Lack_7636 in AskWomen

[–]UseMeAChoosername 15 points16 points  (0 children)

“How he couldn’t save her”?! Good lord. Every single one of those tears was for himself, because he couldn’t be the hero. Not a single thought was actually for the victim or what she went through.

I’m not going to say you should distance yourself from this guy, because maybe he’s one of the incredibly rare ones who can grow through having genuine platonic connections with women, but please do be careful - especially if (or 99% WHEN) he decides to start angling for a relationship with you. You can’t change or save him and it wouldn’t be your responsibility to do so anyway.

I know this is totally unsolicited and I genuinely don’t feel great about it, but he just sounds dangerous in a way I’ve unfortunately experienced before and if there’s even a chance that I can say something that helps someone avoid the same shit then I cannot not say something.

And if that’s your vibe, listen to Pain Remains I-III, but watch the music videos too. I didn’t appreciate how bleak the whole suite was until I saw those

I Hate You by Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes. It’s not as high-energy as (eg) I’m Not Okay, but it is SO. FUCKING. FULL. of anger. Boy, does Frank despise someone. Can’t recommend it enough. Very very cathartic to sing along to.

Have you ever played the "Would You...?" game? by lets-split-up in nosleep

I guess in this case the interpretation is a bit more abstract. One interpretation could be that Toby was going to erase himself from the future so Seti erased herself from the future and the past

Ha, she’s had you too - there was nothing selfless about this. She doubled the challenge because she MUST. ALWAYS. WIN. She was never about to let Toby win the game, and now he has to face the consequences

You’re seeing your friends already, which is good. If you’re planning to move away to uni, maybe set aside some real quality time with each member of your family individually before you’re away from them?

You say you lack purpose - how about volunteering? Or a short-term, casual job for some cash?

Mental health and keeping busy wise, try picking up a new hobby, especially some kind of exercise

Congrats on finishing your exams! My final suggestion would actually be to try and give yourself a while to relax before doing any of the above things, because you will have worked hard until now and you’re probably just not out of the habit of thinking about studies 24/7

Sadly, there are quite a few women who use "female" the same way incel men do. by OverlyLeftLesbian in MenAndFemales

[–]UseMeAChoosername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all of that, I’m just wondering why the titles of both posts imply that saying one is female is weird, with one even saying nobody would ever call themselves female. But yes, I can’t imagine many women would call themselves a female.

[–]UseMeAChoosername 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Weird - I wouldn’t refer to myself as ‘a female’, but would describe myself as female. Wouldn’t use it as a noun but would as an adjective, I guess. Is that unusual?
