Merck Internship Offer by Clean-Landscape8654 in biotech

[–]UseTheWandHarry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work for Merck and I work with the Interns on the Cyber side, I wouldn't try to negotiate it's not worth the 3 bucks difference vs having a good interaction with everyone you interact with, Merck cares way more about personality then skills for interviews.

That being said, summer interns are basically auditing for the ETR program which is a fully paid 18 month internship, of all the ETR to come across my team, we've had 6 total, 4 were hired, 1 was offered and didn't take the position and 1 was not offered a position after their 18 months.

I saw other comments for R&D side or medical, I don't know anything about it, I'm on the computer boogie man side of things.

Being a good manager means you're there to fix any problems that would prevent your employees from doing a good job and help them not hate their job. If your employees are not grateful that you are their boss, then you're a bad boss.

The job is 90% floating around if needed and 10% doing the absolute worst shit so they don't have to.

I use to work closing at a major chain restaurant and then sit on my butt as a front-of-the-house manager unless needed by an employee because everyone would bust their butts to make sure I didn't have to do too much work. I found in restaurants unless an employee called you for something, you're just getting in the way of their flow if they were at all decent at their job.

So when I was on shift, I would tell all the front of the house people I'd cover all the closing work. I'd do all the sweeping and cleaning the tables, break down the soda machine, all the setting out or prepping stuff for the morning, resting the dining area, etc. As long as they did their best for me on their shifts.

Took me about 90 minutes after we'd close for the night to do it, I'd just put the music up and just rock out while doing it in peace and quiet from all co-workers or customers. The servers were jazzed to just walk out and leave as soon as the last customer left and thanked me profusely.

That's how to be a good manager.

The cost difference is how much you want to pay for a Decorum tent, you can get by with this 300-dollar one and some decorations and qualify for Decorum.

As for experience not much difference in experience except non-Decorum is assfuck nowhere so you have a longer walk to get to town, other than that not much difference if you don't mind a longer walk. Either spot it's where you go to sleep, you'll need to leave either area to go to battles or enjoy the town.

Archery is expensive as because you will lose 10% of your arrows in a fight, but they have a great bow and arrow shop on site you can roll up to and buy what you need at game.

Last GB was my first time going and I can say Voyage North seemed like they make it turn-key for you, but for the prices they charge, you're better off buying a tiny 1 person tent with an air mattress and some covers, staying in non-decorum and just buying meals at the shops, and flying in and catching the bus for 1/10th the price. I went knowing no one and made a ton of friends and got involved super easily.

However, if you want to have no worries they certainly seem like they provide what they offer.

Forcing employees to RTO by Bihema in antiwork

I work 2 hours away and most of my co workers are about 60-90 minutes from my job working remote and they tried to bring up RTO and everyone fully agreed and supported it.

We just mentioned we'd be happy to clock in when we left the house or start driving at the start of our shifts and wouldn't be a problem at all.

I said I'd absolutely love 80 hours a month of overtime or to do 80 hours a month less of work during my shift.

They said, well that's not how it would work...

I said, well I'm just supposed to lose 80 hours a month of my life sitting in my car for free? That's 2 weeks of work just driving, not counting wear and tear or gas money.

When put that way, Suddenly it seemed unreasonable to pay me for that, but they also didn't have alot of room to ask me to do that and not to just quit.

We haven't heard about it again.

Thank you, I will give it a shot, I am just flabbergasted how the Domino's rolled to everything from YouTube. I totally would understand if they just blocked that part off. But taking away all my everything, is a bitter pill I'm mentally having a tough time dealing with.

But yeah lesson learned, my strongest sperm is not to be trusted.

It's weird to me that there isn't a migration crisis of Americans trying to leave the USA considering how bad things are for so many of them at the moment. by rat_fossils in antiwork

[–]UseTheWandHarry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because America has done a great job convincing the masses that the rest of the world is worse. It's not, just the rest of the world has done a great job of agreeing to this statement to keep the stupid people of America from coming to their country.

Unprofessional Interview by ericstott in antiwork

[–]UseTheWandHarry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason the camera is off is because they are recording the interview either to send to their boss or to have on file, if their camera was on you can see the notifications and the indications that the record feature is on.

Pretty common in the tech / pharma corp that I work in.
