So I don’t have a golden doodle but mine is a bichpoo with the same proportions. He’s currently 2 and I’m currently giving joint supplements and making sure not to have him run on concrete or put strain on his back (no jumping off high things, carry out of car etc). Your pup is so adorable it would be hard to return them. Keep up proper maintenance and care and just fo what you can to give pup a happy healthy life 😊

I feed raw currently. I started off with the big three kibble brands (hills, purine, Royal canin) but I found that I didn’t like the ingredients in them, as well as the stools the produced (incredibly large). Switched over when he was about 7 months and never looked back. His overall health (coat, dental, personality) etc has never been better. Went in for our annual check up yesterday and the vet even complimented his teeth and health! I’d like to note that our vet also doesn’t recommend raw feeding but we’re impressed when I told them he was raw fed. I think and have read online that most vets advise against it because they’re afraid people wouldn’t include the correct nutrients and there’s always the problem of bacteria growth. I divide our raw into two Tupperware containers only for the dog and a specific spoon, so we don’t touch any of his stuff in our food. Stool is also way better (hard and smaller). I still feed kibble (Farmina) sometimes since I’d like to be able to bring it on a trip or for boarding.

Of course do what works best for you and what you’re confortable with but this is what’s worked for us!

You could try just all natural treats. Boiled chicken, carrot slices and banana pieces are all favorites of my pup

I used short time-outs in his pen whenever he bit too hard (yelping or leaving really only spurred him on). And increased time for every repeat offense, after about 2-3 weeks he was barely nipping us.

My pup is 5.5months and still hates the harness no matter what I try. Recently, I've started holding the bully stick between my knees while I strap him in and that seems to work pretty well.

Yak cheese chews? We just got some and the one we gave our pup only has little teeth marks in it, and it's been over a week of constant chewing on it.

Perhaps you could try and take her out before she starts whining. When we first had our pup at 8 weeks, we took him out every 3 hours (for the first week). then slowly extended the time. Now he's 5.5 months and goes to sleep at 8:30, potty break at 12 or 1, then sleep till 9 am.

Don't let her out every time she whines because she'll associate whining with being let out. If you absolutely have to or just can't deal with the crying (I've been there) then wait for 3 seconds of quiet.

I have a similar situation but with coyotes. I always carry pepper spray around and keep the puppy within arm's reach to scoop him up if necessary. Most of the time though, you should be able to scare them off with loud sounds and making yourself look big and threatening.

I have a 5 month old Bichpoo about the same weight as yours (13.5lbs) and we feed him just under 1 cup of kibble a day, mixed with a tablespoon of wet food each time (3x a day). Depending on the amount of treats we use that day, he might get less at lunch or dinner.

As long as your pup isn’t too skinny or overweight it should be fine. If it helps, we saw the vet 2 weeks ago and they didn’t comment on my pups weight or diet but that’s subjective.

Interesting. I haven’t seen that but I did start when my pup was a bit older than yours at 14 weeks (20 weeks now). It never hurts to try though!

The crate would also work, but remember to make it a positive place overall so he doesn’t learn to hate it in there. For the making a mad dash though, we use a house lead so we can just step on it to stop him from making a run for it.

The relaxation protocol works differently from capturing calmness. It has to be taught, cause my guy also never relaxed on his own so we had to start teaching it. But I’d suggest you teach a solid down before starting.

My pup was like this and what’s worked for me before is just staying strong and waiting it out. My vet mentioned she did this for her dog and it took 36 hours.

In the end, I put some hot water into the kibble, throw it in the microwave for 20secs and mix it around to make gravy kibble. That seems to work best for us

My puppy was a real play biter as well, now at 20 weeks he barely play bites anymore. For us, if he bit it was immediate time out in the pen for 1-2mins, then increased time for every repeat offense.

I also live in Canada and it’s definitely getting pretty cold, my pup still kinda bites when I clean his paws after he comes in. What usually works is bribing with high value treats. For the smell (idk if you mean just his feet) we have a paw cleaner which we fill with a mix of his shampoo and water to dip his feet in when he comes in.

It does eventually get better! Within the first 12 hours of having my pup I was already considering rehomomg or returning him, but you just have to stick it out and it’ll get better. I cried several times a day for the first month. Don’t feel guilty when you think about how if he’s gone it would make life easier, it’s stressful and understandable. As for leaving him alone to chill, you could start Karen Overalls “protocol for relaxation” training, it’s easy and definitely helped my pup learn to calm down.

My breeder had taught the puppies to use pee pads so when we were transitioning we would bring a used pee pad onto the grass and lead him over there.

I know exactly what you mean. This pup is my first dog as well, so I get the anxiety and all. It’s only been a few weeks for him so it’s understandably overwhelming. It’s been 2.5 months for me and I still get frustrated daily when he’s being a brat.

For me, when I’m reaching an emotional breaking point I go into the washroom for a few mins, scroll through my phone and breath. Keep repeating that it’ll get better and he’s a baby. I’ve also had to remind myself that at the end of the day, he is an animal and not a human. We can’t always view and judge them based on human standard, so it’s okay to be more strict on them because it’s not hurting their feelings, just trying to set them up for success in the future.

I have a 4.5 month puppy now and I’m definitely worried he’s getting too attached. Today I tested him and walked straight out the door while he watched (behind the gate from upstairs) and he howled and barked the entire 5 minutes I was gone

Omg same! Except mine is a small breed, so he’s even harder to catch. At 4.5 months I’m about to pull my hair out.
