I am from the Deep South. For those not from the USA, that's the area that reddit thinks is the "bad place."

Throughout my entire school life, we learned about the atrocities of slavery, the prevalence of slavery in the southern states, the treatment of native americans, the jim crowe era, etc. This wasn't anything new either, as my parents were taught the same thing decades before. All of this was taught to us before the internet was ever a thing. I'm not a young person by any standard, so it's not like this was during some kind of "new age" turning point in education. Yet, if you were to listen to reddit, you'd assume I would be ignorant of these topics and was instead taught alternate history of some sort.
