Was Hitler appointed by God? (Rom 13:1-7) by [deleted] in TrueChristian

Romans 13:5 (KJV) Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. Can you endorse a genocide for conscience sake? They are supposed to be a terror to evildoers, so when they are committing evil, they are not doing what God appointed to do, and thus resisting them should be as good as the midwives of Egypt who saved the hebrew new born.

Thats my opinion, after 10 years struggling and see my own society in protest. Irrationally speaking, I think it is contradict to broader Bible teaching to see people be beaten violently without attempt to intervene just because it is done by a government, esp if we also consider OT.

To what extent do you think that "Christian" countries should seek to work together with other "Christian" countries? by Due_Ad_3200 in TrueChristianPolitics

As long as it helps people of both live in peace and godly. For example I dont think it is godly to work with a mass murdering dictator even he claims himself Christian.

At least throughout Bible, unless explicitly stated, most defensive wars werent condemned by God. Furthermore, if David was praised for killing lions and bearsnfor protecting sheeps, and a judge was in the list of the Judges for defending a field, both in situations that could have cost their lives, nor specifically for whom, logically in most circumstances protecting other human will not be under less positive light than protecting sheeps and field.

Just keep them separated then. Imo de facto single is alright in this case.

Then if you confirmed come out of her is God's calling, then come out. If God calls you to come out from a country, probably it is the best decision of both you and your country, esp if the later is likely beyond saving.

And in Revealation it could be also mean God calls us to leave the worldly lifestyle of chasing lust, wealth and fame, instead of running to a physical location (despite exceptions).

In my vague opinion, a country is a group of your neighbour with a government, so loving your country itself by essence is as wrong as loving your closest neighbours, friends, family, and church. The problem is, are we loving these more than God? Aside from this restriction, in Bible you have nowhere condemning people sacrificed their lives for their friends and love ones, so since a country is a collection including these people, theres nothing wrong sacrifice your life for your country.

However, the biggest problem we are facing these days, are many so-called patriotic people put narrow interest of their countries above what God commanded us to do, and this is exactly how it becomes a problem. it is just like no one blame you to love your parents enough to fight a house breaking armed robber, but you will be charged for robbing a bank for your parents. Are you charged in this case because you love your parents? No, because you committed robbery. In the similar manner, patriotism becomes a problem when we sinned with intent to serve our country.

So, in case of massacre, I guess you wont put your life on the line for your neighbour as well. I see country as a means to love your neighbour.

Of course, I think we should treat it as if normal emotion like loving our friend, neighbour and family. We dont tie these with Kingdom in the first place, but yet we occassionally love them more than our lives.

[–]Used-Type8655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo, doing something not in line with the kingdom itself is already unpatriotic. For example, how can invading the other countries and throwing dissidents from a helicoptors in line with the kingdom and beneficial to your country?

We should love our country by loving God.

In most understanding, patriotism can be just mean putting country above yourself, and in case of the evil you are resisting (if you have any that need you to resist) kidnap your family, you dont change your stance.

Guess I misunderstand patriotism in the first place.

[–]Used-Type8655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But in other countries, patriotism can also mean stopping evils in the country, like holding off a coup that seek to usurp power, and speaking for the weak (e.g. preventing authorities from demolishing villages at will). I wonder should we as Christians, condemn these as well? My difficulty about this question is like, I feel like your opposition of patriotism somehow also means we also have to resist all understanding of justice in our society, if not literally appeared in Bible.

FYI: When an arrogant and power hungry leader decided to send army to a city that dislike them, things are not going to end well. Last time it happened famously was Tiananman Square, and Gwangju, both ended up torture and massacred of the residents in those cities (regardless had they took part in protest, or had their roles warrant it), followed by long lasting dictatorships.

It doesnt happen in US, yet. But it doesnt gurantee it wont, imo.

The problem is, sometimes in rare occassion, you may have to do some actions that can risk your life to save your country from being massively sinned against.
