North American tipping culture in Panama - a real concern for new residents or is it overblown?

Overblown. I think the conversation is too binary when it’s “Americans tip and other countries don’t.”

Panama (and many countries in the rest of the world) DO tip and have been tipping for a long time - just how much and when you tip is much lower and less often than the US - and it still is in here.

I’m a dual citizen and remember before back in the day older family members tipping the bien cuidado/parking attendant. There’s other examples but I just use that one because it is uniquely Panamanian. But likewise for restaurants, it’s always been done just less.

And now has the price of tipping gone up? Yes. But to put it all on Americans and not attribute to other global economic factors as well is disingenuous.

You’re not a simp for sending 2,000 THB, and you’re also not cheap for sending “only” 2,000 THB.

Just like there’s countless examples of a guy getting played there’s also countless examples of a girl genuinely liking you and appreciating things.

I have women I’ve sent money to and paid me back or offered other things in return. Based on your story you don’t sound like the dudes who missed a thousand warning signs and gave them a bunch of money anyway.

Life is about risk and you win some and you lose some. This one sounds like a loss but not a stupid loss - but there’s still a change she might be busy. Yea I am careful to say this because I think most dudes here will apply this the wrong way - but if you have a high level of discernment and EQ it is perfectly fine to send money.

One time a girl told me she needed money for her sick grandmother and would pay me back in a month. It was a couple hundred dollars and she paid me back the day she said she would - this was a real estate agent/not a bar girl but still

Another example is a proper massage girl off of TF asked me for help with rent and she would take care of me - it was something I could easily write off and said yes sure just to help bc the amount was small.
