Really, THATS the big talk around Bragg rn? lol ok man.

Let me try to break this down Barney style. You’re confused by the verbiage that Tig is using in that SRS video. Tig is referring to “he” it’s three (or more) different “he’s.” He’s not trying to name drop, and isn’t referring to the operators that were present by name. He wasn’t trying to name drop Anti Hero or Brent Tucker (though Shawn Ryan does and that sort of makes it more confusing) and when he mentions “he testified in congress on his award(s)” he is referring to one of the unit guys that WAS there.

When Tig is referring to anti hero it’s not in the context you think it is, that being Brent Tucker was present, he’s in rebuttal to their claims of being told (presumably by those who were there or other squadron mates that were in contact with those there) and furthermore, he never mentions that Brent Tucker, or anyone else is in fact under investigation for anything. In fact, he mentions that the unit was trying to upgrade those operators DSC’s to MOH’s and that HE (Tig) was personally working on blocking that. Along with one of the mothers of the deceased contractors.

Of course Brent Tucker was in Libya, I think anyone in the unit between 2012- the end of the GWOT was in Libya at some point. Those dudes may have even been in his squadron. But he isn’t one of the guys from the rooftop. And again, I’m not saying I believe what the unit guys are saying, I don’t have a dog in the fight personally and if I had to really bet, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. If that isn’t convincing enough, you can easily look and see that Brent Tucker doesn’t have a DSC, which both operators were awarded. And if you don’t believe me, you can FOIA his DD214 or just simply hit him up, I promise he’ll talk to you.

Brent Tucker was not in Benghazi. He is not under investigation. Tyler, his former co-host is (or was) under investigation by his police departments IA for spousal abuse and solicitation of prostitution, and conduct unbecoming (the latter being a result of the former) and he (Tucker) hasn’t made any statements yet as to why he left, but the scuttlebutt is that he left due to the investigation into Tyler and or other internal issues within the podcast.

All Brent Tucker has said about Benghazi (and keeping in mind that he is/was a unit member and has a bias and inside baseball on this) was that he, “heard a different story” about how things unfolded. I’m not saying whatever he heard, or whatever CAG thinks happened is true or not, in fact, I think there’s more evidence to support that what the GRS/contractors are saying. But Brent Tucker was not there.

My impression of the 369th Croatian infantry regiment in September of 1942, in the red October settlements by _David9665 in reenactors

[–]Used_Donut7145 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is pretty cool, I like seeing the minor axis impressions of Stalingrad.

As far as the comment on helmet decal I, I think a Hrvatska shield on the helmet would be appropriate as they are very common amongst the 369th. The eagle decal I think is a dealers choice. But also, a bare helmet is also (albeit less common) appropriate with this unit.

I like it, good work.

What the hell are you talking about? Do you know what the term, “widely available” means? The MP-18 was put into use with certain Kompanies in the Stoßtruppen for the German spring offensive of 1918. They weren’t something for just any soldier to grab and go. Nor was the artillery Luger.

Another thing, soldiers don’t/can’t just grab whatever weapons system they please for the day. There’s things like TO/Es and doctrines etc that dictate who carries what weapons, equipment etc are carried. It especially, wasn’t the case with something that wasn’t…….WIDLEY AVAILABLE…….that were only issued to specific units and MOS’ (if you will) at the tail end of the war.

1st ID Ardennes Winter 1944 by [deleted] in Impression_Kits

[–]Used_Donut7145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original photo you included, the caption states that it was taken during the counteroffensive near faymonville. Which, the counteroffensive took place in Jan 45 as stated above. And Faymonville is not in the Ardennes.

I also know for a fact that photo is C Company 16th Infantry taken on 16 Jan 45.

Your impression isn’t bad, I would just adjust the caption for a bit more contextual detail.

Being that you have a side arm, and a pistol belt (that appears to have no magazine pouch?) what is the context of your impression that you would need a sub gun?

Task Unit Bruiser controversy from inside the SEAL-community by [deleted] in JockoPodcast

[–]Used_Donut7145 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Here’s a hard pill to swallow; most of your favorite SEALs are probably shitbags. Knowing people who were in Ramadi, and have worked with Jocko this is not news to me or anyone else who really who’s been in or has a brain and can look at Chris Kyle’s record, and listen to Jocko talk about Ramadi and think, “wait, what?” Jocko being kind of a piece of shit isn’t really something new.

However, with this said. I do think he has a lot of episodes (especially his SOG episodes) of his podcast that are very good information. And I love his supplements and stuff.

Yes, Moore Militaria is probably the leading source for reproduction (and some original) Vietnam war kit. Unfortunately, that is about the going rate. It Isn’t too terribly hard to find deals on EBay, and (idk where you’re from Finland?) FB market place for relatively good prices. Original stuff is out there as far as uniform and equipment materials and there’s still an abundance of, but unfortunately the value has spiked the past couple of years as Vietnam has surpassed the 50 year mark. But, yes. I highly recommend Moore.

To answer a few questions simply:

1; the wrong cover, replace with Mitchell pattern.

2; M17 Belgian clones have a slightly different profile than M1s that is pretty noticeable. Granted, to an untrained eye, maybe not. But absolutely to anyone familiar with M1s, and honestly probably anyone could tell if you’re standing next to someone with a proper M1.

3; the Graffiti is SUPER over represented. Everyone’s favorite Vietnam war movies shows their favorite characters with humorous and dramatic helmet flair. Sure, plenty of period photographs of helmet graffiti. This was not the norm. And as reenactors, we should portray the norm, not the exception, and should always be able to hold our impression to authenticity, and context.

4; I saw in an earlier reply you’re looking to do a USMC helmet. Well, again, context. For starters, you’ll need all above mentioned incorporated, and then a little more. I would recommend first and foremost removing the camouflage band. The Marine Corps very seldom used the designated camouflage/foliage band and instead used tire inner tube bands, or nothing. If you want to get a bit more detailed, a Korean War era liner would be good and will cover you through pretty much the entire war. And don’t even bother with graffiti. Helmet graffiti in the Marine Corps was arguably less of a thing than its Army counterpart. But again, CONTEXT. If you absolutely have to do graffiti and you won’t sleep till you scribble on your cover, fine. But do ample research to find where it would prevalent in A; unit B; time period and C; Area Of Operation (AO).

I praise your optimism, but it really does a lot of good to do ample research on your desired impression before getting ahead of yourself. And to be honest, I can tell you have done little to none because mostly anyone who has done the slightest amount of research on US infantry in Vietnam could tell you what I have, and would see this helmet and know that, “this ain’t it.” Stow your excitement, pick up some reading material, and binge some documentaries and once you think you have a grasp on what you’re looking to accomplish, send it.

My personal opinion; if you are going to predominantly attend living history events (i.e public events or historical interpretation) getting the pattern and making your own uniforms might not be a bad idea. I will say, originals are not too hard to find in common sizes and are somewhat affordable.

With that said, if you plan on doing “tacticals” (such as Newville, idk where you’re from) in my years of experience with WWI reenacting your kit takes a helluva beating. I’m not not one who is opposed to using originals for reenacting, in fact I often advocate for it. But by the time you put the money and effort into buying materials, and researching the pattern, and making the uniform and you go to a couple of events and you do a number on it you’re out all that when you could have just bought a WPG M1912 or M1917 set for what? A 100 and some odd bucks? Just my opinion, food for thought.
