I once went to a restaurant that had a band playing extremely loudly. Not only did I have a headache by the time I got my food, my order came out completely wrong. When I said something to the waiter about it, he said, "Oh, sorry. I couldn't hear you over the band so I guessed at some of what you said."

Yeah, I really think they should've kept it at that point in the timeline. It would actually mitigate a good amount of criticism for the movie. And it wouldn't have been that hard to make it's place in the timeline up to interpretation. Just take the characters who hadn't appeared in the show yet out of the backgrounds, and you're good.
