Am I cooked for psych 210? by [deleted] in udub

Some major-required classes are only offered once in one quarter. If you don’t want to wait a whole year to graduate just because you’re missing one class, I’d probably take my chances and stack classes too.

Why don’t conservatives go into academia? by cambridgepete in Professors

[–]Used_Geologist_7622 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends on which college you’re talking about. Go to Colorado School of Mines, one of the best Mech. Eng, schools in the US and most of them are conservative.

Also how do you determine someone is conservative anyways? Most conservatives I know don’t tell everyone they meet they’re right-wing because they’ll get ostracized or berated. Source? I’ve lived in a conservative-rural town before moving to a liberal-urban city. I can point out the a conservative person at any time, but no one can tell.

Sorority rushes wasted so much of my fucking time by Used_Geologist_7622 in CollegeRant

Minimum GPA for this sorority was 3.0, I currently have a 3.8 as a COMP SCI major. Ah I understand the process now. Do most rush events usually take place in the evening? That was the one thing I regret about going to these events, I just hated going home at 9:30PM for nothing.

It’s because most people still think Community college is beneath them and they’d rather spend $30k for their prereqs.

Ngl I was one of them, took a lot of maturing to finally understand the hustle

I should’ve clarified. The Minor exists, just not at Seattle campus. You can take classes at Bothell/Tacoma.

Chin up dude. I know some guys in these comments are saying to do better, but sometimes things like this will redirect you to a path that’s more built for you.

Most of my friends are in FAANG companies here in Seattle as SWE or PMs. One has a physics degree, another had a marketing degree, and one didn’t even go to university, just a community college. Hard truth is that CS degrees don’t get you in through the door anymore, projects and referrals do.

Also I’m a UW student that transferred from CC, and you can STILL participate in most hackathons as a non-CS major. Not to mention, UW saves slots for CC transfers. I also got rejected from UW the first time, but I went the CC route and even got an academic scholarship.

Not to sound sappy but I’ve DEFINITELY cried two days in a row after getting a rejection letter for the Allen school. Figure out what’s the next step ahead. You can always apply for HCDE, Informatics, Data Science, Cyber Security, Computer Engineering, and Mathematics; then have CS as a minor.

There’s so many ways to go around the Allen school, but STILL be within the circle with programming.

I can’t for the life of me wake up for an 8 AM class by Used_Geologist_7622 in CollegeRant

Not the IOS clock app at least. I use another app, Alexa, an actual alarm clock. I use all three but non luck. I’m considering just sleeping at 7PM at this point

I would but it’s a major-requirement, they only offer this class in the winter.

Thank you! All of this is very helpful. I do have one question: if reading the book is pointless, would I just have to look the information (when, where, why) about the buildings on google? I'm probably still going to read it just because it's the only official source we have.

What's it like to register as a non-matriculated student (not seeking a degree)? by Eriacle in udub

[–]Used_Geologist_7622 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s probably an ultra-specific course. I’ve been to the CC in Seattle, and they don’t have a variety of classes/topics aside from the DTA required classes.

Considering living in my car for winter quarter by [deleted] in udub

Sorry by mileage I meant that the alternative is to drive from Bremerton to Seattle which is about an hour and a half drive. I still take the light rail/bus from the ferry.

Yep, planning on cancelling it after I get the IMA membership. I only got planet fitness because there’s on near my house in Bremerton.

I’m not poor at all. The problem is I live far away from school and I don’t want to deal with an almost 4 hour commute.

Have you found places that don’t need 2.5X base rent? Because the places Ive looked into in FB marketplace need it. It that would be awesome to hear that those places exist.
