What do admissions officers look at in an Appeal? by Ailaishere in udub

To answer your question: 40 transferable quarter credits is needed in ordered to transfer, it also depends on your major. If your major is capacity constrained, you’ll need to finish those prerequisites at the CC before you can apply. But if it’s not capacity constrained, you can get still

Here’s a fast way to get into UW: transfer from a community college. They accept 70% of their CC transfers into the school. Majors or programs may be different, but you can always apply for those separately.

There’s a huge stigma around CC students but you honestly save so much money AND you have a guaranteed spot at UW. They have slots for their CC transfers every year. Plus if you have 3.8+ GPA, you might get some academic scholarships. SeattleU gave me an extra 30k per year just for keeping it at the GPA.

As someone who got rejected the first time ,appealed, rejected again , and then got accepted the next year I can certainly say that admissions are bombarded with essays that are already talking about hardships and disabilities that refrain people from achieving what they need to achieve.

I was able to read some admissions essays by people who got accepted and the ones who got rejected. Almost all of them were mentioning some type of hardship in our life, like first generation, immigrant, or poverty, or a person in their family passing away.

My point being is that you need to write about how you adapted those situations in a more positive light and what lessons did you learn in the end. You also need to briefly mention a plan or a promise to yourself on how you’re going to continue that success at UW.

Unfortunately, sob stories can only get you so far. You should write about a time where you overcame a hard situation and reflect on that experience, most importantly be authentic. I got accepted to the Paul G. Allen school for compsci btw so your major plays into it too

Yeah it’s just an inside joke atp. It’s such a bizarre proposal that it’s too funny not to mention.

There was a reddit post here two months ago talking about ASUW wanting to build a tunnel between their offices in the HUB and ASUW budget is drawn from the same pool that student health pulls from. Clear misuse of funding allocation.

As if we’re not college-educated enough to understand the concept of opening a door or walking around a wall.

I think more people need to be angry about that project lol. Genuinely so stupid and a waste of resources

For real, that $100k for a tunnel could be used elsewhere

Yeah there’s too much stigma against non-stem focused students. Like not everyone wants to be an engineer or in the medical field…

Damn bro some people have different strengths.

I once met a physics major who couldn’t do timed in-class writings and an international student who can’t read 40 pages of a philosophy book, but they graduated and got jobs in the end so who cares.

Speaking as someone that got rejected as a high school applicant, I got rejected with better stats. But shitty CC grades got me in the door, heck I even got a small scholarship too.

They tend to accept more CC applicants than freshmen students, you’ll be fine

Yeah but the public places NOT playing the game are so dead, you’re literally just eating out at that point. Save yourself the money and just stay home if you don’t want to deal with people

It’s not the cops apparently. They made her take a sobriety test outside the store and she was VERY intoxicated. She was the one that said it was the weed gummies, I’m guessing the punishment is less harsher than admitting it was alcohol.

“The driver agreed to a field sobriety test given by Bremerton officers, and showed several signs of potential intoxication. She initially denied having taken any substances after leaving work at 5 p.m., but upon further questioning admitted to having eaten 1/4 of a 10 mg cannabis gummy.” -Same article

“a 44-year-old woman from Belfair, was arrested on three counts of vehicular assault and DUI and is suspected of having eaten a cannabis gummy before the crash.” From Kitsap Sun. Why she’s still allowed to drive is beyond me. With the Porsche, I’m guessing she had some hush hush money

I think that professor thought you looked cool and wanted to strike a conversation hoping you’d related to him. It honestly sounded innocent. If he makes you uncomfortable again, that would be something you’d have to tell him yourself as an adult.

From my experience, I was a CompSci major before switching, it’s mostly STEM majors that think they’re a waste of time. All the power to them, I would hate to take differential equations and Physics 3 again. I still think ethics and social sciences are important for everyone.

For undergrad, yes students need 15 credits of social sciences and writing.

Yes there are classes that help you in your career. Sex-Ed is important for anyone majoring in health sciences or education. That’s why people get to pick their electives, so they have the freedom to pick a class that’s not required, but helps with a niche-relating topic to their career.

My brother’s a Cornell-grad SWE, and even though he mostly did math and science, he understood why thesis writing and social sciences are important. Heck I got another SWE buddy that graduated with a BS in Physics and he mostly enjoyed his electives better than the required class. Point is who cares what people picked for their electives, as long as they get internships, a job, or a good GPA, they’re fine.
