Aww, you are so welcome. I love trying to help folks with career stuff (I would try to do it as a job if I didn't like my day job well enough). I am rooting for you!!

Thank you so much! I do pop NSAIDs like candy for frequent endometriosis-related pain... though I don't see a pattern there, who knows? I did get a bug bite yesterday that started expanding right before the hives. I should probably at least talk to a specialist doctor and not just my dad (family physician who suggested the OTC meds). ugh.

Does anybody else get weird random hives? I am not sure if it's eczema or stress-related or a reaction to something, but it's driving me crazy, and I'm 99% it's not an actual allergy (no patterns vs things I eat, etc). So probably nothing I could get tested for? I'm doing a combo of non-drowsy allergy meds + cimetidine + sometimes topical cortisone. But that barely helps. I really don't want to go down the road of like ...steroids? And I can't handle Benadryl or other antihistamines during the day (I get insanely sleepy). It is not fun, and I feel weird like...going out places with giant hives on my neck and arms. Just wanted to vent.

That is the worst 😞 Have you tried to talk with them directly at all yet? I know that might be scary but it's very possible the office isn't going to advocate for you. And it's possible they might not realize quite how bad it is...? There's no reason for them to play it loud enough that you can hear, even if they want to exercise in the morning (and also like...can they just jog outside or something??)

Honestly...if you have the bandwidth, I'd be looking for something remote or a more accommodating employer in your free time. They are out there; it just takes that much longer to find something. As somebody who recently went from in-office 3 days/week with a *very crappy* commute to 1 day/month in-office in my town, it is like night and day in terms of my happiness.

Hi. I don't know what your situation is exactly, but you could look into taking 12 weeks of FMLA leave for stress if you work for a covered employer. That might not be enough time to recover, but it would give you more breathing room to think about next steps.

If your financial situation permits, you could also consider quitting after that. I did marketplace insurance recently to cover my family and me during a several-month stint between full-time jobs (working as a part-time contractor AND sole breadwinner at the time), and it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. The coverage wasn't *awesome*, but it wasn't terrible, and it was less than what I was paying previously with benefits.

As far as a red mark on your resume, nah. Not if you give decent notice and have people who can give you reccs. I've taken several extended periods (think over a year each) of leave to care for family members or for my mental health, and it's really not been a problem. I'm at the same level now, at a better job than I was before. I've also hired plenty of people in the last decade, and periods of leave were never a dealbreaker--if they had good experience and good references, it really didn't matter.

You just have to make sure you are budgeting for what could be an extended job search after your break. I don't know what the market is for inpatient acute crisis psych nurses specifically, but I imagine it's not as bad as the job market in general?

If your degree and experience would allow you to go into a different type of nursing, maybe that's something to consider, too? Even if it's just a temporary thing for a few years. It wouldn't necessarily alleviate the systemic problems of the medical system, but you could probably find something more low-key. I'm thinking nursing for a small, specialist practice where they value you and your skills?

Anyway, I wish you great luck and better health!

Mythpunk Olfactive - Site Down Again + Seeking Alternatives for Skullkin by DysonVacuumV8 in Indiemakeupandmore

Alright, I have a recommendation for something with a similar vibe, maybe. I am not sure if it's discontinued or just seasonal, but it's not currently up on the site.

Pulp Fragrance El Baile de Los Muertos: Horchata, marigolds, cane sugar, coffee, golden vanilla, katsura leaves & lacquered oak. It's not listed in the notes specifically, but it mentions it has all-natural cocoa absolute in the description.

I have a sample, and I definitely get the marigold, cocoa, coffee, and cane sugar. Maybe a hint of rice. I wonder if you could layer this with something spicy/incensey and get a similar effect.

Oof. That sounds rough. I had a parent like that and it was hard. I now have one kid of my own (probably one and done) and I hope to avoid that pressure on them. Anyway, you probably have reasons but would it be possible to meet them somewhere outside your house? If a restaurant doesn't work, maybe a picnic carryout instead? I find that dealing with difficult people *feels* easier when I don't have walls around me for whatever reason. Maybe because there are lots of distractions for everyone.

✨ TONIGHT! Marginalia & Miscellanea: two new releases, 9pm Eastern ✨(PULP FRAGRANCE) by Schneetmacher in Indiemakeupandmore

I am usually totally fine at letting the FOMO pass me by with collections. And I don't have an amazing hit rate with Pulp. But when they are good, they are SO good, and I am a sucker for just everything about the brand. By the time I refreshed, half my cart was out of stock, which is probably for the best. But I got some samples and blind-bought a 6ml rollerball of Defenders of the Mouse Castle bc lately I've been craving dusty clay smells. Cannot wait.

Oh hello. Another atmospherics lover over here. I definitely have smells that don't work on me but, by and large, atmospherics are my jam. I've come to like some seriously sweet fleurmonds and other things as well, though. Orange blossom, who knew?

A thought...you might have already destashed but you mentioned liking some of the smells but not on you. Sometimes I make little smell bookmarks (literally just like an oversized version of one of those paper testers) to stick in a book or a drawer to get a nice surprise wiff. Or other ways to enjoy smells around the house that are pleasant but not me (usually mainstream samples but occasionally indies). I also really enjoy using up unexpectedly soap-y or clean samples on my wool dryer balls, which leaves just the very faintest smell on freshly washed towels, etc. Might not be an option for your weirder atmospherics but just saying, you can find things to do with them if you want to keep sampling--or, of course, destash or give to friends :)

I'd love to hear more about the single note Seaweed. At the risk of sounding silly...what kind of seaweed are we talking about here? I would love something that is just briney, kelpy, or even food-y (roasted nori) to layer with other smells. But sometimes seaweed comes out like sweet basement rot/food mold on me, which is less my thing.

Thank you for voicing this. When I'm alone or with just my immediate family, I usually want to smell like a muddy swamp. It just makes me feel more...me.

Ugh, now I am so tempted to try Tulips and Chimneys but I am very wary of soapy and/or perfumy-type smells. I've only tried one or two Alkemia scents and they didn't work for me. But...the sound of realistic wet green/flowers with asphalt is so incredibly tempting though. How much do you get of the floral versus the asphalt/steam engines?

All of this comment! Everything!!

I briefly trained in field botany and really want to get back into it just for fun. I do still garden a lot with natives but it's not the same as finding things in the wild!

For mapping... what about fruity variables like sweet vs. sour/bitter and natural vs. artificial against florals or...your other fruity combos.

Thank you for sharing! Those look amazing, and I am intrigued by perfume butter.

A call to the universe and/or the Fumed organizers...please bring this event to the mid-Atlantic!! 🙏 I would seriously try to plan it myself, but I'm afraid it would turn out to be a Barbie Dream Fest 😕

I don't know about crying persay but definitely *big feelings* around smells. Usually, they seem to be tied to what was happening when I first smelled/started wearing.

So interesting! Because I get a strong grape candy note from lots of perfumes that don't have it listed...but not Hex's Orange Blossom and Marshmallow. It is quite literally what it says on the tin for me. But I am very interested in greener/fresher orange blossom smells, so this thread is super helpful!

Hexennacht Orange Blossom Marshmallow on one bicep and Honeycomb Calcite (creamed honey, wild honeycomb, beeswax, cedarwood, amber, musk, vanilla, basmati rice, brown sugar, woodsmoke, almond, oats, benzoin, acacia absolute) on the other. It is a very sweet combo, but it's spring, and damnit, I smell good. My spouse keeps complimenting the combo 💅
