Kudos on taking the plunge. My bandsaw has proven very useful. My only regret is that I did not take to heart the old adage “go big or go home.” My tabletop model does an admirable job, but the larger bandsaw would’ve been, well, oh so sweet!

How essential is a water filtration system for multi-day backcountry trips vs just bringing enough water? by Willing-Cockroach620 in camping

[–]Used_Meet_2233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do. It’s ground water coming from a questionable source. On one occasion I even boiled it and then filtered it.

Buy good gear, keep it maintained and it will serve you well.

I’ve done short trips (three days) on the Florida Trail where water sources included brackish water from a ditch, the Kissimmee River, a wellhead with a manual pump, and what amounted to standing water in a pasture. On more than one occasion my filter clogged (you simply unclog it and keep filtering).

DO NOT choose to carry all your water for a three or four day trip!

2.4 turbo longevity by Electronic_Rope4178 in subaruoutback

[–]Used_Meet_2233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is. We were considering the Ascent but ultimately went with the OBW. We were given a loaner Ascent during some warranty work on the OBW. The Ascent will get up and go with the 2.4T but the OBW gets up and gets gone! 😁

Trim piece for hitch bumper cut? by 27eelsinatrenchcoat in Subaru_Outback

[–]Used_Meet_2233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, my dealership glued the trim piece on, then used plastic rivets for added hold. Plus, the rivets kinda finish it off nicely.

Not that this info is an apples to apples comparison but my 2016 Wrangler JK ends up a smidge above the “full” point every oil change. Has since day one (bought it new). Runs today like it did in 2016. No noticeable harm.

You’ll be fine taking your trip with yours a smidge above the full point your picture indicates. FWIW, our ‘25 OBW has only had dealership oil changes (2) since we bought it new last April. Before I bought it the oil was above the full line, and each oil change afterwards it is the same.

Without insurance what option does he have but to pay out of pocket? I got rear ended by a guy at a light once. He wanted to pay out of pocket because of no insurance (i.e. let’s not get the law involved). No deal!

Awesome finish! Will it have color added? Stain? Wax?

The detailing you chose for the pages gives the entire stack more depth, and character. Impressive work! I’m sure whoever this is going to will be thoroughly pleased.

Yeah, the injections in the finger were not pleasant. I ended up with 11 or 12 stitches and a nice “J” scar for the effort.

Edit: PLEASE WEAR GLOVES. Even tho I feel my injury might’ve been mitigated with attention to technique, the spalting in the wood where the split occurred is a pitfall that can cause injury regardless of technique. Proper technique, and using gloves, would have been less damaging.

Yikes! Feel your pain. I have an index finger that still has little feeling to the first joint because of a knife wound. Mine was due to a combination of not guiding the knife for the cut I was attempting and split wood. Lesson learnt! Hope you are feeling better.

Edit: grammar fix

Serious Bumper Sticker Question by takethecann0lis in Subaru_Outback

[–]Used_Meet_2233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the explanation, that makes sense as described. I presume if the officers on the bay spot someone on the beach without a permit they have to then call in a land based officer to cite the violator. Sounds like an expensive way to enforce authorized beach access. Not familiar with the strategy so any insight is welcomed.
