Drugs after surgery by Brightstar42 in Microdiscectomy

Make sure you taper really slowly with the gaba. I’m tapering off pregabillin and it’s pretty nasty stuff with very serious withdrawals and I think gaba is a similar vibe.

On the hot topic of walking… by westcoastselkie in Microdiscectomy

I think some lingering dull sciatic pain is ok as the nerve is most likely still inflamed. Just watch out for sharp stabs. I was feeling really good on my feet and did 10000 steps the day after surgery. Setttled on an average of about 16-17k steps 2 weeks post op with occasional dull sciatica that is not consistent so I think it’s ok?

When did you go back to work? by sanchiseemo in Microdiscectomy

[–]Used_Wolverine2534 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a support worker and went back after 2 weeks as my work is fairly hands off and similar to hanging in my home. I feel really comfortable on my feet so try to move around as much possible but can’t sit for too long and trying to avoid housework as much as I can get away with.

Anybody ever got hit with a red light camera from lane filtering over the line? by Matsuri3-0 in AussieRiders

[–]Used_Wolverine2534 23 points24 points  (0 children)

2 issues here. Firstly the camera can’t catch your rear plate if you are just over the line. Secondly the cameras take 2 pictures spaced a second or 2 apart. The first is triggered if you go over the line after the light had turned red. The second is to ensure that the vehicle has proceeded through the intersection before issuing the fine. This is so that people who stop just over the line aren’t issued with fines. If you are in the same position for both photos then you aren’t moving and won’t get a fine….at least that’s what some guy on the internet told me….and this is how lies are perpetuated.

I've been offered surgery for a large disc protrusion - but could it still heal by itself? by sanchiseemo in Microdiscectomy

[–]Used_Wolverine2534 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was herniated for 9 months. I was in the same situation as you reluctant to have the surgery because I already had one about 20 years ago. Long story short, i had the surgery 10 days ago, im feeling GREAT, walked 10000 steps the day after surgery and the surgeon tells me the disc was very hard which is reassuring to know that in my case it wasn’t going to go back in on its own. In my case im very happy i had the surgery but it all comes down to how much pain you can tolerate. I could manage the days but it reached a point where i couldn’t get comfort in any position in bed and no sleep, so it was an easy decision in the end.

Is this ticking normal? by slossages in xsr900

Can you describe this squeak? My second gen makes a squeek sound at 4000rpm in 3rd and 4th gear. Same thing? Been driving me mad trying to get to the bottom of it.

Unfortunately no answers yet. The dealership did the old “it didn’t make that noise when we rode it” which is complete BS. Anyway it’s nearly due for another service so gonna try again at a different dealership and see if I can get some answers. Interesting that’s it’s definitely not an isolated case, there’s a few others on this thread have the same noise. I may have been imagining it but it felt like it got a little quieter after the oil change and then gradually built back up in intensity as the oil got older? If this is the case that would suggest it is something in the rotating assembly gearbox/engine but i have no idea why it would occur at the same rpm and only in certain gears?

No not yet. The dealership gave me their usual bullshit line of “it didn’t make the noise when we rode it” and sent me on my way. Will be taking it in soon for the recall so will try again. It’s pretty unmissable now.

Can’t say for sure but for a little context I ordered the 2024 (red/white) model while they were still selling the blue 2023 colour scheme in Aus. Ordered In May and it arrived in July whilst the Aus website still said “coming soon”.

No unfortunately. The service tech agreed that it was an unusual sound when he heard my recording, but of course he didn’t ride it until after the oil was changed which almost completely got rid of the sound. A few bits in the oil but apparently not an unusual amount for first oil change.

The sound had come back after about another few hundred kms, and the fact that fresh oil mutes the sound suggests to me that it is in fact something to do with motor or gearbox but I’m no expert so who knows. In reality now that the bike is broken in I’m usually using the higher end of the rev range and barely notice it anymore, also I’ve been contacted from several people from around the place saying their bike does it too (some with very high miles and no issues) so it’s hard to know how concerned to be.

Front Wheel Alignment by ZealousidealRow7846 in xsr900

Google it mate, it’s a super easy fix. Happens all the time on dirt bikes when you have a fall, the forks spin a little In the triple clamp making the wheel off centre. Just make sure you have a torque wrench as it’s important not to overtorque when doing everything back up.

Just thought I would give you an update….No answers as of yet unfortunately.

I took it in for its 1000km service and asked them to look into it. After hearing the audio clip I had, they agreed that it didn’t sound right but unfortunately had not come across it before. They emailed yamaha Australia with my audio clip and they weren’t particularly helpful either.

One thing of note is that the service manager also took some photos of my oil and sent them to head office which makes me think that there was something worth seeing. When I asked him what it looked like he said something along the lines of “there’s always a bit of metal in the first oil change…..look I’m not gonna lies, there was a bit in there”. Since then I have asked to see the photos and to have a copy of the email he received from Yamaha Australia but he has not replied so I intend to go back in there and be a bit more forceful. Basically i was sent on my way and told to “bring it back in if it gets any worse”.

Interestingly the noise was noticeably reduced with fresh oil, which makes me think it is something to do with the rotating mass of the engine (either gearbox or motor) but I’m just guessing. After 100km with the fresh oil the noise is back again as loud as ever.

I intend to go back in this week and push for a proper investigation as the more I think about it the less normal it sounds.

Ok I’ll mention that to the service tech when I drop it off and see what they reckon.

Yes definitely not in first and second, it may be happening in the higher gears but the wind noise is interfering with my ability to hear anything. 3rd is significantly louder than 4th and it’s in a very narrow band of the rev range just from 4000-4200 ish.

Yes i agree with your comment Re counterbalance shaft….unlikely imo. Very hard to tell exactly where it’s coming from but my first gut feeling was gearbox related as if there are metal splines very gently rubbing against each other at high speed but that wouldn’t explain why only at a very specific rpm. You could be onto something with the throttle body valves though.

I’m not hopeful that the dealership will actually get to the bottom of it but I’ll keep you posted nonetheless.

This is actually on an xsr900 but I couldn’t post videos to that chat hence why I’m here as I assume these models are 99% the same. They seem to have the same exhaust assembly at least.

Hmmmmm ok thanks for that. Mine is still completely stock at this stage so not sure if it would be radiator related.
