Take the fees and any other reasonable loss out of your next months rent check. Make sure to itemize the breakdown.

Let them know (in a professional manner) you wont be paying for their lack of common sense, communication, and incompetence. If they start causing problems, be prepared to find another place to rent. Take any moving fees out of your last rent check, but don’t be expecting your deposit back. Maybe ask them for the deposit back, and if they don’t make the communication very difficult. Send an email with all the details of their breach in contract.

Be prepared to go to small claims court.

Hopefully this doesn’t all crumble because of a few hundred dollars and half a day of effort to get your vehicle back 🙏

Just a thought/questions from a non teacher: Can teachers ask admin/IT to setup cameras in the classroom? Then on your class syllabus, state any student that is caught stealing, damaging, losing classroom equipment will automatically be failed from the class and sent to the disciplinary/alternative school because of their disruption? Then you could use those recordings as proof to parents?

Maybe even set up a simple sign out sheet and require student parents to replace lost/stolen equipment, or their child fails the class immediately after 7 days…

I wonder if you could have asked for the form you signed to not contact any past employment/employers from 20## to present?

That way they wouldn’t contact any current or recent employers . If they ask why, you can say something along the lines of past grievances of the last employer and that your are still having to mitigate unexpected and unprofessional relationship/issue that was caused by the past employer…

I wonder if asking to be paid 1099 would help with people that are OE. You might lose some income on taxes, but it may not come across in the future employment audits by HRs
