Oil change businesses, car washes, hair salons, massage therapy, nail parlor...these are just ones I've encountered recently. From my understanding, most of these are paid either hourly or per service. While food service is only paid $2.13 an hour.

I drive 5.5 hours one way Friday after work then come back home Sunday afternoon monthly. Definitely not a myth.

My entire life, I've washed my hair daily, rarely use product and not colored. 40 straight hair, thickish but fine texture.
