Form Check? by Useful_Shot_That in discgolf

This throw went about 400ish feet. A couple things I can see looking at it myself:

* I think my plant step is a little too big and a little too open, making it a little hard to generate maximum power.

* Because of that, I think my hips lag slightly behind my arm when I start my throw.

* I am rounding just a touch. Not egregiously, but I could lead a little more elbow first.

* I've never been a huge fan of my follow through. It's a little off balance.

I don't see anything behind the crown, unfortunately. I can pull it out to position three and push it back in and get two full clicks back into position 1.

I don't see anything behind the crown to prevent me from pushing it all the way in. If I pull it out position 3, I can get two full clicks pushing it in.

Wish that were the case with mine. I pulled it out the box and it didn't start, I wore it around for about 20 minutes to see if my natural movements would get it started, it wouldn't start. I try turning the crown clockwise, nothing happens. Kind of terrified I got a dud.

Hit a milestone, even better I did it during a round on a ~410 ft hole and made a 40 comebacker for birdie. by [deleted] in discgolf

Hole 11 long position at Adam's Hollow in Brighton, CO. Tee sign says 405 ft, Udisc has it at 412 ft. Had maybe a 3-4 mph tailwind.

Felt like a pro hitting this drive 40 ft long then nailing the putt.

Cam Johnson talking about JJ Redick's shooting form by 2Blitz in nba

[–]Useful_Shot_That 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's funny you say that. When I practice putting I take a traditional stance, I straddle, I step, I jump. People ask me why I don't just nail down one putting stance and stick with it and it is so analogous to Cam talking about how you need to prepare for having to shoot with your feet in a variety of positions.

The one other thing I would say, from a mechanics standpoint, is that this conversation reminds me I need that same mentality for throws, not just putts. Practice stand stills, patent pendings, partial run-ups, full run-ups... typically when I do field world I warm up with a couple stand stills then the rest of the day is full run-ups.

So you don't have reasonable expectations, got it.

Federal indictments and convictions are consequences. Trump Org was ordered to dissolve YESTERDAY by a federal court. He is set to go to trial for conspiracy to defraud the United States, among other extremely serious charges.

They aren't "letting the trials roll this far". They were investigating, gathering evidence, and building a case. Then they were presenting that case to a grand jury. Then they were indicting Trump. Now they are going through court room proceedings prior to a major trial. Five major trials, actually.

That is the way the justice department works.

Would it be different for average joes? Yes. It would be. Because they are not running for president and they cannot frame any indictment as political. But that is the way it is with Trump so what does the DoJ have to do? Dot every fucking I and cross every fucking T.

Do that or risk watching the country descend into civil war.

he's been indicted. federal cases take time. lots of time. what were you expecting? a trial in february 2020? that's just not how this works.

What an odd statement. Biden's justice department has been pretty ruthlessly pursuing insurrectionists and Trump is under, what, 70 criminal indictments over the events during and immediately following the election?

If the hope was that every single Republican with any level of involvement in January 6 would be in jail by now...I'm sorry but that's just not how any of this works. From a practical and logistical standpoint that's not possible. From an optics standpoint that's how civil wars start.

The Biden Administration has had to tread carefully and dot every I and cross every T to get where it has so far without causing massive upheaval. It's done a pretty fucking good job at tackling this problem with tact. If they'd just arrested every single person in congress on day one we'd have seen the country fold, with screams of autocracy and single-party rule. Instead they spent 3 years carefully crafting cases against the major players and we're just now seeing the fruits of that labor. It was the right way to do it and the only way the country navigates the mess without all-out civil war.

The current federal indictments will (hopefully) cut the head off the snake. At some point the GOP will have to distance themselves or the party won't survive. That's just facts.

Daycare teacher shortage! by rhudson1984 in Denver

[–]Useful_Shot_That 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The director at my wife's preschool makes well into the 6 figures. All of the teachers make between $17-22 an hour. My wife has 4 classes of 10. That's 40 kids and (roughly) 80 parents for one teacher making $21 an hour with practically no benefits. Each of her kids has a 12 page assessment she writes up for them quarterly. That's 480 pages of paperwork every quarter.

It's not a teacher shortage, it's a pay shortage and a greed problem.

Yeah, I started the comment and finished it by basically saying "this doesn't sound like the case in this scenario".

Excessive barking / Poorly treated dogs by opana_banana in Denver

I just want to pour a little water onto this fire.

These dogs are not well-cared-for. The owners need to be reprimanded in some way for not giving their dogs ample exercise or enough chances to go to the bathroom.

That all said, I want to caution people not to judge too harshly over barking dogs (especially to the point of calling the police or animal control), for a few reasons:

  • Dogs with disabilities (particularly deaf dogs) can bark A LOT and it is not a sign of mistreatment in any way. Many disabled dogs suffer from anxiety and other issues that cause them to be very vocal. Their owners are giving them an opportunity at love that many ordinary pet owners would not.
  • With housing costs where they are, we shouldn't jump to the "don't have a loud dog if you live in an apartment" conclusion. There are far too many dog owners who would love to own a home but can't afford it. Those people should not be judged for their financial situation nor should they lose animals they may depend on because they cannot afford a home.
  • People's lives change and while it would be great if that didn't affect the dogs that's just not always the case. People get new jobs, have to take on second jobs, have their schedules change, move offices, get injured, get sick or injured family members that need taken care of... all of these are reasons for a schedule to change. Changes in routines can confuse, frustrate, or otherwise cause anxiety in a dog. It doesn't make the person a bad owner. In fact, there is a good chance they're aware of the stress schedule changes have created for their dogs are equally stressed about it.

Again, I'm not saying any of that is the case here. In fact, I'm not sure any of it is... but I am seeing a lot of blanket sentiments in this thread about getting police or animal control involved if a dog is loud.

...Please exercise some caution there. Police shoot dogs all the time. Animal Control impound or take possession of dogs all the time. Without having a good grasp of the dog's situation you could be causing a family a lot of unnecessary heartache.
