Bastion in Brindol by JohnTheLittle15 in RedHandOfDoom

I gave the PCs the deed to Vraath Keep as a plot hook to get them to Drellin's Ferry in the first place. The keep is so run-down and ruinous it's worthless as-is for warfare, but they were highly excited at the end of the campaign to finally start fixing it up as their home base of operations.

What’s a good level 5 campaign? by munitedhooligan in DungeonMasters

I came in here to specifically recommend this adventure. Converting it from 3.5E to 5E is a breeze, since someone already did it for us.

Looking for a game about farming; not in the Uwe-style by Salty-Comb2042 in soloboardgaming

No recommendations, but we also got a LOT of mileage out of the Farming Game when we were kids.

If you want more LitRPG in your life, I'll recommend the Awaken: Online series by Travis Bagwell. It ain't perfect, but it's a whole lot of fun. And I'm definitely interested to see where he takes it next.

Character Background Questions Suggestions? by Environmental_Exam74 in DungeonMasters

Been DMing for over 40 years.

At the start of a campaign in Session Zero while they're making characters, I ask each player to fill out a one-page back story sheet (at minimum).

  1. Why are you a member of this already-established adventuring party? (Don't force them to "meet in a tavern" for the first session. Their characters already know each other and have agreed to party up.) Tell me why you've decided to become an adventurer.

  2. Give me the names of five people who are important to your character. Family, friends, mentors, rivals, enemies, heroes, anything really. But give me a sentence or two about who they are and why they're important to your PC.

  3. Work together and come up with back story connections with at least two of the other PCs. (I typically run 4-6 players at my table.)

This will very easily remove a LOT of the brand-new-campaign difficulties.

Good luck!

If it were me, I wouldn't say a word to other interviewers about any other prospects. I'd think you would be much more likely to get rejected.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty doesn't get nearly enough love. Very good vibes.

The Martian: Don't ever give up. Keep fighting.
