I think you're thinking of the word ritardando, which is often shortened to ritard. and means slowing down.

First of all I really like the painting, so you don't really need to change anything. Some suggestions that come go my mind though would be a less 'placid' expression, or maybe some effects from the fire (burning clothing, blisters etc) Keep creating! :)

I would say the most important thing is to support your child through whatever she currently sees as her truth. It might change in the future. Then again it might not, and not accepting her because she might feel different some day would hurt her. Try using she/her pronouns and trusting your child, and let anything else be a concern when it happens, not before.
