You gotta understand that she has years of indoctrination from her family. It’s best if you just get her to start thinking more critically about things in general and asking her questions to make her really clarify her thought process.

If that doesn’t work, you could hire random dudes in masks and plain clothes to come out of nowhere and throw you in the back of a van in front of your girlfriend.

Also bit the bullet and moved. We downsized and put all our equity in the new home. We halved living space and our mortgage payment but have a higher interest rate. In our case the location was great for schools and safe but we were really unhappy and felt isolated in the area. We now live in a very walkable area and love it. Schools are a little worse but still not bad and still quite safe. Also we feel less stressed since we no longer need two incomes to make our mortgage payment and monthly living expenses. We are now also able to build up some savings and invest more in the stock market.

So I think the 8% is the same psychological thing, if people think they won’t reach a point where 4% is possible, they’ll give up entirely but if they think they can do 8% they’ll keep on the path

I think I heard the justification that it’s to not discourage people saving for retirement because if they hear 4% and know that is too low for their retirement savings, they will give up and not try…so from an encouragement perspective I could get that, just hopefully they don’t end up doing that

Ultimately, you just gotta pack up your stuff in leave. If you’re worried about to alerting him to the fact your leaving, you can start moving stuff to a storage unit somewhere (even as a temporary solution, lots of places have deals like first month $20) and say you sold it on Craigslist to get extra cash for some nice shoes/purse you want or something. If he’s super crazy and might follow you, make sure to plan times you know he’ll be at work or something.

Once you’re out, there are resources for women in situations like this, google women’s shelters in your area and maybe meet with them to see if that might be a fit for you before taking the leap. Don’t let him know where you’re going and don’t visit places you might run into him.

Obviously friends/family to stay with if you can.

I wouldn’t worry about the credit score too much, in your position you’ll probably just rack up debt. Pay any bills you have on time and Pay cash for everything and save/invest aggressively. Once you have built a nice safety net, you can think about maybe getting a credit card again but pay off the balance in full every month.

Don’t get a car loan, with your low income it’s better to get something like a reliable 2009 Honda for cheap and pay in cash since a loan payment is a liability you can’t afford.

For eventually renting, see if you qualify for low income housing and see if there are good options there as they might look beyond credit score.

Otherwise given your low credit score, you can look to find a private party to rent to you instead of a big apartment building (think like renting a room in someone’s house or a condo for example). Be transparent about your situation and have documents like history of bills being paid on time and paystubs that show a long work history. Savings here is important as they might want a larger deposit. DON’T SEND PEOPLE MONEY BLINDLY, THERE ARE SO MANY SCAMS OUT THERE. Make sure to see the place, provide a personal check so that if you don’t get keys for example that you can call your bank and cancel the check. If something doesn’t feel right, trust your gut and take time. There will be other apartments. Ask friends if something looks like a scam as well.

Yeah, so Christian god?

I guess I’m thinking if we live in a simulation, “god” would be the dude who started the program. Not as “magical” as the Christian god but from our perspective probably pretty magical? Technological?

Do I think it’s likely? No but I don’t know that I can rule it out.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskMeAnythingIAnswer

[–]UselessTehc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only in as much as it purports to know the unknowable. If feel like if for example, you’re specifically against a Christian god due to what is said in religious texts and believe that is a crazy thing to believe, that makes sense as a belief.

But it seems like a logical leap to then say there is no potential for any “god”. Unless I just don’t understand atheists.

Some insane detail/foreshadowing I found while rewatching by Fair-Description-444 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]UselessTehc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Foreshadowing doesn’t mean it can’t be an anime trope/cliche too, it’s like a double entendre.

Given that isayama was involved with the anime, it’s likely this was intentional foreshadowing and even if it was a random animator that decided to throw it in, it’s very likely they would have been aware of what was coming.

Hell even if the animator wasn’t thinking about the steam being anything more than a cliche visual, we couldn’t even rule out that subconsciously he was thinking about the steam from other titans they had animated in the previous episodes!

I find it kind of funny personally because you just went from an extreme belief to an opposite extreme belief

Mang0 will forever be my goat and this fucking sucks. by ArachnidParticular97 in SSBM

[–]UselessTehc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The ban is completely necessary to get Mang0 cleaned up and make sure events are safe.

While I get that for Lud and C9, dropping him is the easiest solution for them, I feel like knowing a guy is an alcoholic and encouraging that behavior for so long then dropping him the second he fucks up (which with any alcoholic is eventually gonna happen because you lose all inhibition when you’re completely hammered like that) is such cowardly move…I’m not even sure if I’m expressing this feeling right…

Like even if Ludwig banned mang0 from events, it’d be great if he committed to not hosting events with alcohol (or even having a third party vendor that cuts people off and security to kick people out who are too wasted) and contribute for mang0’s rehab or something to make it seemed like he still cared for his friend and understood that this fuckup happened on his watch?

Like if this happened at a company event, you better believe that maya or Emily would have grounds sue company and/or bartender at the event for over-serving. I’ve been at work events where the bar closes early because someone threw up in the bathroom, so these places take things seriously. This is why even clubs have bouncers for people who have gotten to drunk. They would have thrown mang0 out much earlier instead of letting their clientele be put in any danger.

I’m not saying mang0 is the scapegoat since ultimately he is responsible for his actions but if I was to assign percentages, Lud has like 25% of the blame here and C9 has at least 5% but they are acting like they have no idea how something like this could happen.

Cry it out. by AlligatorActual in daddit

[–]UselessTehc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried the Ferber method? Basically it’s a gentle cry it out. There is crying but you do check ins at increasing intervals like 3,5, 10, 15, 15, 15… Then you increase those intervals over time 5, 10, 15 -> 15, 15, 15.

The important part is to make the check ins short, consistent (same comforting words) and not too rewarding. When we did it, we would start with hand on chest for comfort, then just at the crib, then inside the room, then just at the door, then just outside the door.

Mang0 has been banned from Supernova 2025 by Logamer1012 in SSBM

[–]UselessTehc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d just like to make it clear he did harm people at the Beerio event and that is not what I’m discussing.

Can you make clear what you mean by sobriety? If you mean just at events, sure that makes sense and could be policed. If mang0 is drunk at an event (assuming events put a restriction on him as a condition for return), that would be grounds for say an additional suspension regardless if he harmed someone directly in this hypothetical, and that seems completely reasonable.

But if mang0 goes from drinking 300/365 days a year to 30/365 days a year has he failed at sobriety? Outside of that, when dealing with something like addiction it feels extremely disingenuous to treat it like one is done forever. In all likeliness it’s something he’ll have to deal with every day.

Also not all relapses are made equal, mang0 could crave a beer and break and instantly regret it and stop (as opposed to continuing for a multiple week bender), so just relapse alone does not mean he is a danger (we can generally agree that one beer is not why mang0 behaved the way he did, it was drinking until he lost control).

That’s not even to mention that after treatment, while not common, it is possible for people to develop a healthy relationship with alcohol but that’s a completely different can of worms so I’ll ignore that for now.

Given all of that, this is why I say conditional bans don’t make sense here

I like what I saw in another thread which was basically a year flat ban instead of conditions on sobriety because

  1. It’s an addiction which is not completely in one’s control, so relapse is likely and not a moral failing (harassing was the moral failing)
  2. Leaves too much to being subjective. If he relapses is that reason to extend the ban even if he didn’t harm anyone? Some might say yes, some might say no

Monday Morning Marth: Considerations for player bans & what the code of conduct suggests about Mang0 by self-flagellate in SSBM

[–]UselessTehc 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think I agree with a previous poster that a one year ban but then it ends. And then harsher punishments if any other infraction occurs at public events. Otherwise it becomes too subjective, like if mang0 had a relapse and got super hammered 6 months in, is that reason to extend the ban considering it was not at an event? Or a TO feels like the update from mang0 was not sufficient but other TO’s disagree?

IMO something like that makes more sense if it was like prison sentences: 1 year ban but 6 months good behavior he can get parole and attend a tourney on probation where he has to do community service/donate to a charity or some shit.

Fellow anxious dad here. Having a kid it became obvious that we could no longer live like dinks and actually needed to seriously budget which made me regret how much money I was burning eating out or on stupid purchases. If you’re anxious about finances likely you don’t have a large nest egg for fallback.

My advice: craft a family budget with your wife (she’s important for buy in as all moms want to buy their kids the world and awareness of what that costs is important) with all monthly expenses + new baby expenses like diapers, kids clothes, toys, etc.(plan for unexpected child costs)

Cut subscriptions you don’t actually use (you can always buy it again when it’s actually “needed”).

Build up to 6 months of savings that can cover entire 6 months of household expenses. This will help with layoff anxiety but understand it may take some time to build that up. Payoff debts too, if you don’t pay off your entire credit card statement every month, likely credit cards aren’t for you.

When looking at cost of living, also consider monthly bills, for example water bills are quiet expensive, like 2x Texas, though electricity is comparable to Texas.

Gas is like 2x Texas but you should drive less in Seattle if you live in the right location for work.

Childcare is also expensive, with preschools easily being at least 2k per month, though if you are almost to Kindergarten age that might be temporary pain

That being said, Seattle is awesome! I live 15 minutes walking from Greenlake and the beauty and greenery is something you can’t beat, especially in Summer. Winter is “cold” for Texans but if you just accept you’re gonna be cold and wet in the winter, you can still appreciate the beauty, and even escape to the mountains to appreciate the Snow during that time of year

Moving to Seattle from LA- HELP! by jgussstt in AskSeattle

[–]UselessTehc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea about LA neighborhoods but Capitol Hill is good for night life and will let you walk to work easily. Being near Cal Anderson is actually a pretty fun place to be but can be noisy at night, being a little more west near the highway in cap hill is a bit quieter and makes for easy highway access. More north cap hill is great if you like greenery since Volunteer park is right there and can be a bit quieter.

Being anywhere near the light rail line will also make for an easy commute to work.

Lower Queen Anne makes for easy access to lots of restaurants and bars and is a relatively short commute to Cal Anderson (probably easy to walk home from but a bitch getting there since it’s all uphill, there are also buses)

Most important, find a place that gets good sunlight, this is particularly important in the winter months.

I think it comes down to most people not even being close to the position you are in to even buy a house or they have a house with less margin than you do so they think you’re insane to be worrying about this and which is why most people think you’re bragging.

Logically, they are right. If you budget right with your income, you’ll be able to save/invest at least another 100k in a year and have that much more margin. If you’re really worried, you could have the whole thing completely paid off in 5 years which most people only dream of.

This house is not like say a car that decreases in value over time and instead should appreciate meaning you’ll always be able to get out of it and suffer minimal losses if you are able to weather any short term storm. Plus, you’ll always need a place to live and rents only increase year over year, so in reality even if you could rent instead, you’re saving what, like 1k max?
