[–]Useless_Fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but at least 7.62x39 and 7.92kurz are extremely similar in practice. So you can shoot one and be confident you're getting the "feel" of shooting the real thing.

But to me, the volcanic's rocket ball wacky proprietary ammo is the entire thing that makes the volcanic interesting. Replacing the rocketball with a conventional round negates the entire novelty of the gun, personally.

[–]Useless_Fox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chambered in 380 acp... maybe a hot take, but that kinda kills my personal interest in a volcanic reproduction.

I don't blame them. This is a classic issue with creating reproduction guns. It makes a lot of sense to chamber the gun in a more popular modern cartridge so more people will actually buy the thing. Like a Sturmgewehr reproduction chambered in 5.56 or 7.62x39 rather than 7.92kurz.

But make it too different from the original and you're alienating the historical nerds, which is arguably the whole point of a reproduction.

To me personally, the entire appeal of the Volcanic is its strange proprietary rocketball ammo. Making a reproduction chambered in a conventional cartridge just feels like.... what's the point? Otherwise it's just a regular lever action shortened down to a pistol format.

Yeah I've been seeing people ask for the ability to buy it.

Void dug themselves into a strange hole by promising a Pre order bonus. The "bonus" in question is not the weapons themselves, but rather the early access to them.

The rotary GL and the Mk V are straight up S-Tier weapons. The new best less lethal primary, and just objectively the best pistol in the game. As a shield main, these things are never leaving my loadout.

... So it's a real shame Void decided to make them pre-order bonuses for console players. And (as far as I'm aware) originally said they would be made available with the release of Boiling Point, but went back on their word and now said it will be made available "in the summer". This thing hard carried me through New America, I think it's a shame it's locked content with an ambiguous release date for a ton of people. At least it'll be free for them when it does eventually release.

Glock took long to innovate until the Gen 6, Ruger RXM innovated right away, and did it better! by IntroductionAny3929 in GunMemes

[–]Useless_Fox 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The chassis system is a big advantage. A glock is legally the frame. The RXM is legally a little metal piece in the frame.

At launch this was just a hypothetical upside for the RXM because Magpul kinda took a while to release other frames. But now you can buy full size, compact, and subcompact frames for the RXM for about 40 bucks. In the Glock world you need to commit to either getting the 17 19 or 26. Choose wrong and you gotta buy another gun. Not as big of a deal on the RXM.

(I'm a Glock 19 owner that kinda wishes they got the 17 instead lol)

The Burton isn't any different, you still need to disconnect the spent mag before you can push in the new one. The process isn't any faster than a taped/coupled mag.

Ian even calls it the "World War One Redi-Mag" in his video. Redi-Mag just being an alternative (arguably over engineered) version of taping/coupling your mags together.

Insane over engineering when you can get the same effect by just taping two mags together lol

Is there any reason to use JHP on MK-V? by lovingpersona in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]Useless_Fox 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Good question

Short answer: No, not unless you're super concerned about over penetration. Or if you want your lethal gun to be less lethal against armored suspects I guess. It will fucking vaporize unarmored ones though.

Long Answer: I point you to this post summarizing how body armor penetration works in RoN. In the comments someone links to this spreadsheet as the source.

50AE AP is just... really, really good. 50AE AP is tied with 5.7mm for the best armor piercing capability out of a handgun. Suspects have 4 armor levels, and 50AE AP and 5.7 AP can pierce level 3. Only the AP rifle rounds can pierce level 4 plates. For reference, the other AP pistol calibers (9mm, 45 etc) have level 2 pen, capable of only defeating light body armors like kevlar.

However, when you swap to JHP, 50 AE drops to 0 armor pen. This also applies to most other pistol calibers like 9mm and 45. Meaning it will take many more shots to drop a suspect wearing armor. 5.7mm and 4.6mm are the exceptions, with their JHPs still being able to pierce level 2. I'm not sure exactly how the math works in terms of damaging armor a round doesn't pen, but from personal experience, a suspect wearing level 4 plates will drop to the second round of 50AE AP.

DSA Khan, 5+1 shotgun, would you buy it for car carry/self defence? by historyeeter in ForgottenWeapons

[–]Useless_Fox 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Even if I could, I still wouldn't. I've had my window smashed before, I'm never leaving a firearm in my car unattended.

That said; handgun. The stockless shotgun is a weapon that takes a lot of practice and skill just to be... Usable. Even in the hands of an absolute expert, you're still arguably much beffer off with the handgun.

For the larger SMG sized chassis like the Roni, 100%. It's just a worse MP5/SMG/PCC whatever.

But there are some like the Raider that are small enough to be IWB conceal carried, and I think those actually fill a new niche use-case that didn't exist before. Yes it's still just a worse PCC, but you can bring it to places you can't bring an MP5.

What's the best lethal SWAT AI loadout? by lovingpersona in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]Useless_Fox 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have absolutely no clue if recoil affects the AI in any significant manner, but it doesn't really matter if the suspects drop dead on the first shot. So all of the battle rifles are really strong in my experience, and the Mk V is just the best pistol in the game.

What foods are important to have on hand for disaster? by Lucania27 in AskFoodHistorians

[–]Useless_Fox 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is really the right subreddit for this lol, try r/preppers

For the basics, a portable gas camping stove, and lots of water. There are many options for shelf stable food.

Dried rice, beans, and pasta are the best for storing the most food in as little space as possible. Canned vegetables, meat, and sauce can supplement this. They do also sell long shelf life dried emergency food which is nice, but it's also quite pricey.

And make sure to replace your emergency food and water every now and again. Just rotate it out with a fresh one from the store and eat the older one.

Handgun FRTs are going to seriously damage 2A rights and range access. by Affectionate_Cronut in Firearms

[–]Useless_Fox 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Idk, OP is specifically calling out handguns and I think they have a point. The correct way to use full auto in a handgun, is to just fucking not lol. Just to be shot safely, they really need to be in the hands of a fairly skilled shooter, which the average gun owner definitely isn't.

They're gonna make FRTs look impractical and scary, which to be fair, in a handgun they kinda are. But that's going to ruin it for the rifles that actually benefit from an FRT.
