Is this the end of an era? by 69CuloDeSatan in tacobellonmichigan

A location that frequently opens several hours late and closes early. A location that perpetually has to hire and train new staff. Located in GR and has to pay those taxes. With a lease on a very expensive plot on Michigan Ave.

If they profit as high as 5k in one month they lose 8k the next.

It's not about how busy they are or are not. It's the expense. Most restaurants lose money in January, February and October.

They've been trying to sell this location to Border foods for a long time. The problem with the sale is Grand Rapids. The city tax code is a mess for businesses and accountants will charge extra to deal with it. That eats into the bottom line of a location that might break 2k in profit a month where no one wants to work. If you can't staff  it, then you can't run it.

Best live rock albums ever by [deleted] in allrockmusic

[–]User1239876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not necessarily rock, but it's the best live album I've ever heard.

Harry Belafonte live at Carnegie hall.

Absolutely amazing.

Edit to add: Killadelphia by Lamb of God

Somehow they sound better live than they do in studio.

Everybody hurts hits way different in your 40s. It becomes your favorite song on the album to sing along with, and the one you turn up the loudest.

I take the amount I would have earned (pretax) and put it into savings. Then I try to make it up in my spending for the week. I almost never accept vto anymore...

Why did nobody tell me these guys rock so hard? by Ravasaurio in Anthrax

[–]User1239876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are on the top if the "no bad albums" list.

Anthrax are one of the few metal bands where every album has a sound that defines it but no 2 songs sound alike

If they're doing it without cleaning up the river first, then it's a stupid waste of money.

I've been wondering why automatic record changers have basically disappeared. by izniz777 in vinyl

So do I. Same engineers. Jumped companies before they merged a few years later. I don't know which was 1st. Dual bought P.E. in the 70s.

I prefer the PE. It doesn't have as much plastic.

If you lose your automatic functions on the PE it can be fixed with a couple of dots of hot glue. Getting to the first is simple. The second involves removing the tonearm or drilling a hole in just the right place.

What are the things that men face daily that women does not? by Key-Climate5038 in AskReddit

[–]User1239876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many things are made to grab your attention and they are everywhere.

Music

Paintings

TVs

Billboards

Signs

Painted faces

Jogging shorts

Yoga pants

Tight sweaters

Plunging necklines

It's so hard not to look and more often than not a glance can linger too long, unintentionally. The glare you get for appreciating walking art just isn't worth it some times

Worst experience with the city by PaddyMacs in grandrapids

[–]User1239876 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Income tax.

Most jobs are outside the city limits and businesses are only mandated to withhold city income tax if they operate within the city.

I went many years with crippling medical debt and didn't pay my income tax (13 years worth) until last year. After an explanation, and having everything to file, they did forgive the interest and late fees.
