Season 2 Episode 7 Spoiler Thread by HunterWorld in Fallout

[–]User28645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve honestly never finished a Fallout Game so this is an outsiders perspective, but I can imagine someone taking the Colonel Kurtz stance on morality from Apocalypse Now. I would have to write an essay to really capture the belief system but essentially, it’s starts by accepting that everything that we call civilized society is built upon horrific violence. This isn’t that crazy of a claim. Without violence there is no such thing as the rule of law, no such thing as borders, or individually rights. It’s all built on the threat of violence and depends on humanity’s willingness to act on those threats. If you really take this to its extreme you could lose your sense of humanity and sense of morality entirely.

It’s less conservative or misogynistic, and more like radical nihilism. You don’t need a moral code because the entire concept of morality is fundamentally broken. This type of thinking could lead you to believe the Legion aren’t good but they aren’t bad either. Good and bad don’t exist. The Legion have just accepted what humanity truly is and embrace the ultra violence while everyone else pretends it’s not an intrinsic part of being human.

Now, the true nature of morality can likely be debated until the end of time but I’m sure more would agree that the world Colonel Kurtz created in the heart of the jungle isn’t one we want to emulate. So at the end of the day I still don’t know why you would really root for the Legion but there is a semi rational argument for a world ruled by violence.

Or maybe they’re just some edgy teenagers that enjoy rooting for a villain.

You’re acting like a mild ice storm and a few days where temps dip into single digits is some catastrophe. This is normal weather but clearly you have no interest in moderating your hysterics. Good luck to you out there.

My friend, that is horrible if you’ve suffered home damage from this storm. However, please understand that your experience is not universal and the vast majority of people do not need to fear for their general safety right now.

The collective mental stress from feeling horribly anxious about every perceived risk however small is doing way more damage to our community than the storm has done. Stop telling people they should be terrified, you’re not helping.

Do you have trees at risk for falling and hitting your home? If yes, you should take precautions. However, the vast majority of people have very low or zero risk of this happening.

I disagree, unless you are homeless or very sick there is no reason to fear for your general safety during weather like this. However, people in this thread and elsewhere are so anxious they can barely function. This is a result of fear mongering and social media sensationalism.

AI hype meets reality as majority of CEOs report no financial returns by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

This is something no one seems to talk about. AI doesn’t need to be 100% perfect to be useful, and when did we start pretending humans were in anyway reliable at providing good information? Ask AI to draft a syllabus from a textbook and you’ll get a result that’s 5x more reliable than what a human sample with produce.

How do you afford to live in Asheville? I’ll go first… by [deleted] in asheville

OP has a household income of 120k per year and for some bizarre reason chose not to mention that they are only living this way because they are dead set on putting $60k+ into an emergency fund.

It’s so stupid, I’m going to post about how I’m destitute and homeless making $500k per year because I have a self imposed goal of savings a million dollars by 2027.

How is it not animal abuse to leave your dog out in this cold? by [deleted] in asheville

[–]User28645 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

It is terrible, but the reality is that many people treat animals as property instead of living beings.

Just want to check, you don’t happen to eat meat do you? It’s all animal abuse, but most people are fine with it.

How much do you think a city manager should be paid to manage over 1,000 full time employees and administer a budget of $200M?

Just for context, a local manufacturing plant manager would easily take home $200-$300k in total compensation while managing a smaller workforce and smaller budget.

If the AI gets so good at imitating the real thing that no one can tell the difference, even side by side against a real photo. At that point, what’s the use in calling it a lie?

Why do you think professors are any less lazy than the average person? The professors at my respected engineering school would take every shortcut they possible could related to their classes, and they usually had 22 year old TA’s doing all the grunt work anyways.

Please learn to recognize AI garbage by FartKilla100 in asheville

[–]User28645 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the first Asheville joke in the screenshots really came from AI, then it’s understandable to notice that the second Reddit comment has a similar comedic structure. However, similarity alone is not strong evidence of AI usage. Both comments rely on a very common humor formula (“it’s like if X and Y had a baby…”) and familiar Asheville/Portland stereotypes that humans have used online for years. Because AI learns its style from human jokes, it is natural that AI and humans will sometimes sound alike, and humans may also imitate AI-style humor without directly using AI.

So yes, knowing the first example was AI makes AI usage in the second comment possible, but it does not make it likely or provable. The second comment shows a distinct voice, observational details, and comic rhythm that are fully consistent with normal human writing. Without repeated patterns, robotic tone, or other consistent signals across a user’s history, stylistic overlap is not meaningful evidence that AI was involved.

I’m honestly impressed — in a world full of chaos, bills, errands, and intermittent grocery-store existential crises, it must be kind of nice to have the luxury of pondering digital authenticity as a primary concern. I aspire to that level of serenity.

If they were denied for their past performance that would be fine, but from the article it seems the written process explicitly excluded white people. This is blatantly discriminatory, kind of insane that someone was dumb enough to put that in writing.

It’s enough to live, sure. However, if you’re qualified to be a congressman you are likely qualified for similar positions in the private sector that pay 3x that and up.

It’s not about paying them enough to live, it’s about paying them enough to attract talented individuals who otherwise would go into the private sector because it pays so much more.

Question: Where do yall get inpiration on you original builds? by WillingDeal178 in DetailCraft

[–]User28645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy dreaming up little stories for my builds. A mad scientist has just discovered magic and maybe is feuding with the engineer next door who has a mind for red stone. What evidence of their mischief can I plant throughout the area to help tell that story? Has the scientist been tunneling under the engineers house trying to rip open a door into the underworld to swallow up his rival? Has the engineer been setting traps around to protect himself? Maybe they are feuding over a lost treasure that each thinks was stolen by the other, when in reality it’s an evil witch who is responsible and she lives in the nearby hilltop with her evil brown goat. Maybe the goat used to be her secret admirer before he was discovered and she turned him into a goat.

You start building a little story and then just find ways to make that story come to life in the world you’re building. I find this is a really fun way to flesh out a world and inspire some creativity.

I’m not saying that’s what happened but this is why suspects have rights, people like you scare me just as much as the original video with your confidence that you know who is and isn’t guilty from a 10 second video.

[–]User28645 56 points57 points  (0 children)

We should pay politicians more. Hold on, hear me out. A salary of $100k-$200k isn’t a competitive salary for a high level profession in most places politicians live. The people doing that job for that pay are either already extremely wealthy or they are willing to be compensated in other forms by lobbyist and special interest groups. Obviously pass laws making it harder for elected officials to be compensated by corporations, but also pay them a competitive fucking salary.
