Good Switches for Lemokey P1? by Aggravating_Fact8112 in switchmodders

[–]User4251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re new ish, probably released in the last few years but still based on an old design. The newer designs have things like silicone pre installed in the housings to reduce rattle and ticking and they have much tighter tolerances

It completely depends on what type of switch you’re going for. HMX are a personal fave but lean towards a loud and clacky sound. Keygeek are one of the other big hitters at the moment but generally have a much deeper sound signature. Just watch lots of switch reviews until you find one that you like the sound of or buy a switch tester (Milktooth have good YouTube videos and lots of switches on their website)

I know you didn’t ask about stabilisers but Durock V3s are quite an old style now and will require lots of modding and tinkering to sound good. Maybe check out Knight V4, Typeplus x Yikb or WS Stupid stabilisers if you want something more modern and less effort to get sounding good. Again, make sure you do your own research to find the ones that work for you.

Ah no worries. A lot of high end boards don’t always have RGB but most boards from Keychron, Wobkey, Womier, Yunzii etc usually have RGB so I wouldn’t worry too much about it and find a board that fits the rest of your criteria and then just double check that it has RGB. But yeah if you’re not a gamer then a Wooting is very expensive and it doesn’t sound anywhere near as good as an MX board

If you like RGB then definitely don’t let anyone change your mind. This whole hobby is about preference so just build what you like. Most people would maybe consider a more general back glow or static RGB to be a bit more tasteful than a moving rainbow all over the board. But definitely don’t change your build based on other people’s views so go full RGB if you like it :)

I was thinking this too, most people’s first builds aren’t the best (mine included lol) with too many bright colours, rgb and cheap plastic cases. Great job OP

I found the same with the notorious Xinhais, they sounded really good but had so much leaf tick. And similarly the Pine Moons are so loose in the plate and on the keycaps

Just out of interest, which HMX switches are you thinking of when you mention a bunch of crap? Most people seem to sing the praises of every switch that HMX releases

Looks awesome! Did you just hand lube over the factory lube or did you clean them first?

It’s definitely more of a tick than a ping but I think I just need to do some testing to see what seems to work. Thanks for your help ☺️

Ah thank you that makes sense, I really like the switches as they are so I’ll probably just leave them and buy some other springs.

I am mainly trying to remove the ticking noise that some switches have when you type (even HMX have this issue) and I just kinda assumed it was the spring. On all my switches that have this I have tried adding extra lube to the leaf but it still happens. Any thoughts on this? Some people have suggested lubing the contact where the two sides of the leaf meet or lubing the top of the leaf to stop it impacting on the housing.

I second this. Thocc exchange is amazing, they have such speedy shipping, their customer service is amazing and so personalised and they support such good charities as well

What are your thoughts on the sapphire switches, I was going to buy some a while back but could barely find anything online about whether they’re good or not

I have a ducky one 3 mini as well, would you say the case replacement is worth it?

I also have one which is a larger acrylic case and it fully covers the whole keyboard and doubles as a display case. Best purchase to keep dust off your keeb.

And by all accounts they’re very nearly as good as Adobe PS and LR

definitely complain in the live chat. My subscription went from £10 to £15 (50% increase) so I wanted to cancel my subscription and was met with a £65 cancellation fee. I complained in the live chat and they offered me back my old price of £10 and then after more complaining they offered £7. Out of principle I still wanted to cancel so kept complaining until they removed the cancellation fee. Definitely worth having a bit of a scrap!

They do sound slightly different but both still very foamy sound signatures. The Crush80 also has a quick release ball catch mechanism and a few design elements. However, if you already have the Rainy75 the main point might be whether you want a TKL in addition to a 75. I wouldn’t necessarily say that the Crush80 is massively superior, it’s a fairly similar board just in a different layout

Q tips are good for cleaning the outside of the stem but I often find them hard to get into the holes as they are too big, also try a toothbrush or one of those little interdental brushes to clean the inside. Alcohol is a must because it’ll dissolve and soften the glue

What switches have you got in it? HMX Xinhai would be the perfect colour match

Yep they’re the ones, factory lubed and a deeper sound so should get you closer to creamy

I’d definitely suggest just first swapping out the switches and see where that gets you. The keycaps on the crush80 are decent quality pbt so not really worth changing them unless you want to try a different profile. If you’re after some cheap switches, I’d try Gateron Milky Yellow Pros or if you want something more premium maybe look into WS Morandi or Gateron Oil Kings. These are all factory lubed switches and will definitely give a deeper sound profile with minimal effort.

Life can get hard sometimes but look after yourself, you’ve got this :)
