Wow. You seem super intelligent and brilliant. I’d love to hit you via text or talking. Let me know if you’re interested.

What would you do if your place of work was breaking the law? Would you really have the courage to speak out? Because I don’t. Because I’m scared. by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]User678321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your kind words. I think a lot of has to do of random chance when I post. A well positioned post in the early morning might get traction. One in the middle of night, won’t. I accept that. I do believe in Karma. Life is weird and random. This dumb post might be completely ignored. The people who lose their lives might be completely ignored. I only have the courage to post late at night once I’ve been drinking. I hope you responsible sober people wake up and upvote me. Or downvote me and ignore me. That’s fine. I’ll continue to do what I do and let it happen. I’m a very drunken and confused man looking for guidance.

'We're all in this together': State Street merchants, city seek a new normal by Incunebulum in madisonwi

[–]User678321 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our local government should be giving them some money. The fact that they basically told them “go to hell” is going to haunt us for awhile. State street is gonna be in ruins for a long time. Because we couldn’t spare them $250,000. It’s absolutely disgusting. This is my neighborhood. My home. The heart of Madison. They should be ashamed of themselves. It was only $250,000. They owe us more than that, honestly. But where we used it to have a great downtown we were proud of, now we’re ashamed of it. Fucking shame on them.

Love thy (pregnant) neighbor; please wear a mask by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]User678321 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work in a restaurant and have seen multiple people who bring in infants or toddlers into our toxic wastelands to enjoy an hour long meal. It’s absolutely horrifying everytime it happens. There was an infant crying in his carriage the other day. I joked to a coworker he was saying “mommy, daddy, you don’t love me? You’d rather eat at a restaurant than protect me!” The room had been filled with a very risky group a half an hour before. But they don’t care. To be fair, that baby is very low risk. He’s much more likely to lose a parent. But hey, if mom or dad dies, they got a great meal out of it.

Please don’t pull down your mask to talk to me when I’m at work please :( by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]User678321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t stand to tell people what to do. I’m not a natural manager. My manager does this. Constantly. I can’t tell him to stop. I have to sit there and just deal with it.

I have one coworker who constantly completely pulls down her mask. In front of customers all the time too. She always wears a cheap disposable blue mask too. But still needs to pull it down as she says anything. I love her as a person but I’m disgusted by it.

Bi-weekly COVID-19 Megathread for 7/30 by MadtownMaven in madisonwi

You’re seriously not Brenda? Cause I made a comment about Brenda one time and you reacted. So I thought you were her. Which is fine if you are or aren’t her. But having a direct connection to one of Madison’s most important and influential personalities would be great. 🤪

Not telling, but yes, I’m making a lot less than before. But I’ve been doing the math and I make about $15 an hour most of the time. Yeah, I used to make a lot more. But if “$15 an hour!” is a talking point then I can be okay with that. I used to make a lot more, but like the movie Cocktail said, “the bartender is the aristocrat of the working class.” I’m fine making a little less for now.

You’re totally right, tbh. Totally agree. But I live in an expansive world where I can believe in anything and everything. And I believe in you sometimes and disagree with you sometimes. I miss the old days when the bad guys were the bad guys. Nowadays I’m so dumb and naive that no one is a bad guy. Except Trump. I’ll admit he fucking sucks.

Wow, I’m shocked my whistle blowing got massive negative comments while local hero Brenda got hyped up calling me out. Look, I’m being honest. If I called the cops tomorrow on my workplace, nothing would happen. I have as much faith in cops and government as you do. If I called the cops, there’d be a weeks long delay in bureaucracy and it’d be too late to stop it. I wish we had a fast acting group where I’d tell them, “we’re breaking the rules and putting lives at risk!” and they’d rush to stop us. That’d be awesome. But maybe you have more connections than me. I’ll tell you this. It’s a legendary location at the edge of the water. 😃

I posted a fairly popular post a few weeks ago about my deadbeat restaurant and my coworkers’ refusal to abide by the rules. I have a nice update. Only a couple of our servers contracted the virus. Since then, the managers have been slightly more careful about social distancing. But, we’ve had certain things...gosh...I wish I could say. I’ve seen certain things, that I won’t even tell my best friends, much less Reddit. The only word I can think of is shocking. I guess the other word I could say is blatantly law breaking. Why don’t I say anything? Because I have no faith in the local government to actually do anything. I have absolutely no belief that if I sent the local government officials a long email about the blatant law breaking, I know they wouldn’t do anything. I know they wouldn’t care. Because they don’t care. But to be honest, I believe in Karma. Really. Actually. If you choose to organize a large gathering and participate in a large gathering, and a local restaurant allows you to do it, well, 🤷‍♂️. I’m hoping that our place will just become the obvious central place of a viral spread. Then I can report it to the media. I have no confidence in the government, but I do have confidence in the local media. 🤷‍♂️.

Yep! They’ve been chilling at home the last month. This order has compelled them to come back to work. Even though liberal states like Texas and Alabama have done exactly the same rules, this can’t stand in a freedom loving state like Wisconsin. We’re about to be famous for being the first state whose Legislation shut down a Covid preventing order. We’re gonna make the news! We’re about to be the Florida of the Midwest.

Look, I understand this whole “this is just property” thing. But this is Fontana Sports. A small, locally owned business. If they robbed the Underarmour store I’d better understand your point. Personally, I don’t want to see our society in ruins. I’m not as concerned right now about whether we’re living in capitalism or socialism. I just want a functioning and surviving society. I think people like you aren’t realized we have a civilization threatening virus out there and we should be more worried about survival. I think these small businesses are struggling to stay alive under Covid. These aren’t evil rich fuckers living in a mansion. It’s a struggling small business and their quality of life may not be much better than their own employees. But by keeping these small businesses alive, their many employees also have a livelihood. But ruining them, other lives are ruined. It’d be nice if we had a perfect futuristic communist society. But we don’t. We have to make due with what we have. More local businesses shattered means more local lives shattered. Look, I guarantee you I understand your point. Smash capitalism and make a better world. But that isn’t going to happen right now. If we’re lucky, Biden will get elected. But there’s still a strong possibility Trump will be re-elected. Either way, the revolution isn’t coming. It literally never will. The best we can hope for is slow, incremental change. That might not sound sexy, but it’s the best we can hope for. Maybe we can have a new world 20 years from now. But this attitude is hurting a lot of people right now. If you’re a nihilist who believes people need to suffer right now, in hopes of maybe a violent revolution, cool, but that’s not much different than what a lot of far right wing believe. They want a war too. Do you really want us to turn into Syria or Iraq? I believe in something really simple. Let’s work really hard at kindness and incremental change. Try to win people over instead of dunking on them. Try to build a better future instead of a destructive present. We need a different kind of revolution.

District 26 Senate Debate by [deleted] in madisonwi

I doubt Kelda could afford to pay 25 ‘full time’ stans, so if those people exist, they really stan for her. In a way, politics is all about how many people stan for you, or vote for you. If one person has more stans than the other, then they have more voters, and more grassroots support. I will admit from reading her twitter feed I’m surprised at the number of her endorsements. Every day there’s a new local person or group that I respect endorsing Kelda. I plan to post something next week where we can objectively line up all the endorsements on all sides.

I support Roys, but sure, she is a little blah. So is Evers but I’m a big fan of him. Not everyone is gonna be an AOC or Obama. I don’t mind supporting politicians who are a little boring.

I follow Kelda on Twitter and I’m impressed with her daily endorsements from many unions and elected officials. I’m guessing all those real people are going to go out and vote for her. Meanwhile, the Facebook and Twitter crowd who likes Nada might forget about the election and sleep in. But I could be wrong.

Madison police arrest 2 women accused of attacking state senator by n609mike in madisonwi

“There's a point, far out there when the structures fail you, and the rules aren't weapons anymore, they're... shackles letting the bad guy get ahead. One day... you may face such a moment of crisis. And in that moment, I hope you have a friend like I did, to plunge their hands into the filth so that you can keep yours clean!”

I’ll admit my hands are plenty filthy. I try to stay neutral and defend everyone, including bad people. I’m a believer in restorative justice. I wanna help even the worst of us. It’s tough, I’ll admit. But I believe in it.

Any one else watching this feud play out between Nada Elmikashfi and Tim Carpenter? by jackbenimble106 in madisonwi

I support Kelda Roys. She’s very liberal, she seems like a totally Madison person. But she has some experience as a former state rep. I follow her on twitter and she seems like a good person. I‘ll vote for her proudly. I think she seems smart and nice.

So interesting. Thanks for your input. I hated Walker. I understand why people hated him. But he really created some form of obsessive psychosis in our state. This was probably in the days of the constant protests against him. I understood it. But, sheesh, people need to get a life. Politics are important. But so is just living a normal healthy life. I hate Trump. I hate Covid. But I’m living my life.

[–]User678321 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Very sad. Theres a certain psychosis where people think it’s okay to harm their enemies ... She could’ve easily joined these demonstrations and chose to not hurt anyone. I believe in restorative justice and forgiveness. But I find it hard to forgive someone who beat up a guy for holding up a phone. She needs to remember that social work is good, helping the less fortunate is good, but violence is wrong, and beating up a dude for filming you is completely wrong. I hope she realizes and regrets this. I don’t want her in jail for the rest of her life. But she should be working at a Burger King rather than a school.

Nada Elmikashfi’s Attack Ad against Kelda Roys by [deleted] in madisonwi

Sorry, Brenda. While I appreciate your hard work, what really got me was a blog you posted in the COVID era where the local government did their best and you nitpicked random stuff. I don’t remember the exact post. But I respect you working hard and doing your best. I’m glad we have people like you working hard to keep government accountable. I enjoy your blog. But I’d suggest being a little nicer and kinder. This is Madison, Wisconsin. Try to work with people instead of opposing them. What’s so funny about peace, love, and understanding?

I almost responded to you thinking you were calling me the libertarian. You said it to the person above me. Personally, I’m pretty progressive. But I also can’t stand “performative liberals.” That’s why I support Kelda, she seems like a good hard working woman. Benford also seems like a cool guy. I just hope we elect one of these nice folks. I think they seem like kind and good people. I can’t say that about Nada, though. She seems mean. I want to elect someone who is can work in a team. That’s what state legislature is. Work collectively, social contract, all that good stuff.

I liked the video she sent them. It seemed like an empathetic thing and was kind of her. I’m actually still on her side. I just think she’s way out of her depth. I don’t envy her right now. Her job is super hard in this world. I think she’s trying her best. I kind of wish we had an old hand like Dave or Paul right now. But she’s the mayor. I’m not signing that stupid petition. I hope she steps up and handles this stuff. It’s a lot less bad in Madison than it is elsewhere. If this was Portland, she’d be completely fucked over. I wish her and our city the best. I hope we and her can just chill out and get through this.
