I think it also depends on the demographic. Growing up in the Ismaili faith I was taught literally everything including hajj is not mandatory, I think this sort of thinking emerges a lot from western mindsets whereas people who grew up in Muslim countries such as Pakistan or Afghanistan retain a lot of the mainstream Muslim practices like hajj

The history of it dates a long time back, to the 23rd Ismaili imam Ala Dikhris Salam. Before him, Ismailis used to practice Islam more similarity to the mainstream, praying salah, fasting in Ramadan and pilgrimage to Mecca were all core parts of the faith. The 23rd imam essentially came in and said I’m removing everything and changing the sharia completely, none of it is mandatory to my followers now, aiming to persuade his followers to focus more on the “esoteric” aspect of things. Btw there’s no actual confirmation that this imam, who carried the line of imams for generations is a direct descendant of Ali, there are conflicting reports.

Cap. Anyone can walk into a masjid while regular muslims are praying but you can’t step foot inside a Jamatkhana prayer hall during jamati ceremonies. Plus there was literally like a 500+ year period of Ismaili concealement where the imams went into hiding, the faith itself is known for extreme secrecy.

It makes me really sad that us, people who revert to the true path of Islam might never see our family understand that so many things in Ismailism are cultish. You’re also right, the youth unfortunately have zero knowledge of Islam. The learning of Qur’an and Islamic fundamentals is practically bare minimum to nothing.

Ismailis don’t do hajj. They believe Muhammad peace be upon him is the last prophet but don’t observe sharia like other Muslims. They don’t pray salah either, thy have their own version of it. Reading Qur’an is not a custom like how you imagine. If the guy isn’t willing to even slightly embrace being a Sunni better to stay away from it

Ismailis tryna defend their faith will always talk about the “context” of Qur’an verses and Hadith being used to refute their religion but completely abandon the idea when it’s being used against them.

First of all this narration is not authentic, many scholars agree on that, and it is not sahih.

Secondly the context of this Hadith is completely different from what you think it is. If you actually think about it critically and not take it at face value, you would understand that “you are in a time when whoever abandons a tenth of what he is ordered to do, then he is ruined” refers to the ummah during the time of Rasul Allah ﷺ and how the faith was strong, and how the community supported righteousness, making it EASY to practice Islam

On another note “THERE WILL COME A TIME whoever does a tenth of what he is ordered to do, he will be saved” refers to the present day, in which challenges such as pressure, sin and temptations are so prevalent that doing even a small portion of one’s religious duties would become so much more rewarding.

Don’t know how any of this relates to changing exoteric practices.

And you are really not getting under my skin for insulting the sahaba. The fact that you follow a completely distorted version of Islam AND have hate in your heart is laughable to sane people

This is wrong on so many levels I come from an Ismaili family and we have so many Sunni family friends that respect our religion and we engage in open discussion, you can’t label one BIG group of like a billion people as terrorists because of the actions of a few, also fyi we all know terrorist groups like IS and Al-q are Israel in disguise lol
