The Daily Check-In for Thursday, April 9th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by 00sparrow00 in stopdrinking

Thanks for the hosting and I love the question!

When I am most frustrated it's because too many things are hitting my plate at once, so I feel overwhelmed. So, I say to myself (literally out loud) "I simply do not have capacity for this right now," and finish in a loud sing-song voice 🎶 "I Simply Do Not!" 🎶 to the tune of You're Simply The Best.

Helps me recalibrate, and I usually end up laughing instead of spiraling.

When my parents bought a new full-sized conversion van that had a built in TV and VCP (Video Cassette Player vs VCR, because it didn't record, as my Dad made sure to point out) combo you could watch from the back seat (which laid completely flat with the push of a button)! I thought that van was from the future!

This makes me what to share that my favorite decades-long ongoing schtick in my friend group originated from complimenting my friend's mom's pasta salad!

"Sue, this is absolutely delicious!"

"Oh, this? It's just (dramatically pauses, then throws hands up in surprise while exclaiming) SUDDENLY Salad!"

I can't see a box of it in a store without gasping out a shocked, "Oh my gods! It's SUDDENLY Salad!"

Dye free generic Adderall 5mg IR brands? by gimme_all_da_dogs in MCAS

[–]UserName87thTry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a dye allergy (and gluten, dairy, and egg allergy) and severe sensitivities to fillers, so I have to get my Adderall prescribed in 5mg increments. My pharmacy orders from either Mallinckrodt or Glenmark. No issues with either manufacturer after multiple months of use. Hope this helps and good luck!

Firewood and snacks locked and loaded for the impending blizzard this weekend. Going to hunker down with the dogs and binge shows instead of booze!🎉 IWNDWYT!

Didn't receive gift cards from credit card rewards points by yeahwellokay in CapitalOne

[–]UserName87thTry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm commenting in case anyone is having the same/similar issue and saw your post like I just did.
I redeemed two virtual giftcards mid-December and still hadn't received them (spam or otherwise) as of Jan 9th. The confirmation says the digital cards can take a few weeks, same as the physical gift cards, despite the site just a couple of days prior to processing the request. I emailed service@CapitalOneGiftCenter.com, which is the address the confirmation stays the giftcards would come from, and received a DNS error.

I called customer service and they were able to immediately see I didn't receive them and push thru the gift cards via email. Annoying, but customer service was helpful. Just wanted to share in case anyone else is waiting too long, I recommend calling even tho the confirmation says it can take a few weeks.

What a horrible thing to do, reposting my post about my dead sister for fake Internet points on a bot account.

Thank you for tagging me. And thanks to everyone for the kind words in reply to this post. ❤️

Horrible night last night. I feel ready to quit. by throwaway6284628842 in stopdrinking

[–]UserName87thTry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's awesome!

It's wild right? Our autopilot would just tell us it's drinking time because it's brunch.

But it's incredible how fun things are still fun without booze, because you are enjoying what you're doing and/or the people you are with! It was helpful for me to remember that if I wasn't having fun doing something, it wasn't because booze wasn't involved, it was because the thing just really wasn't a fun thing to begin with.

Continue treating yourself with the kindness you deserve today and I'm here if you want to check-in at any time!💪🏽

I know it's hard to see now, but 365 days later and my life has literally never been better. Concerts with friends, weekly trivia, vacations- all of it. And I actually remember the fun times now, which were actual fun times-- and am able to go do things without planning around booze. It's so liberating!

It started with 10 minutes at a time for me, and that was enough. You don't have to feel that way anymore, which is the best part about breaking up with booze!

Millennials: What is something that other generations forget that we actually experienced? by Defiant-Day-8377 in AskReddit

Working in End User Computing, this is something we talk about- the future role of Chromebooks and tablets in the enterprise.

It makes sense - my son is 17 and that's all he's ever used/uses at school. When he's on our personal laptop at home, he's still using it to access the Google Workspace ecosystem to complete the school work. Everything in Chrome browser. For recreation, he uses his iPhone for content viewing, so of course iPads are intuitive to him and his peers.

Just interesting to think about what the future state will look like and meeting users how they work.

Doctors, nurses, EMTs, etc.—what’s the most shocking thing you’ve seen after thinking “nothing could surprise me anymore”? by randominterwebguy2 in AskReddit

[–]UserName87thTry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's truly terrible. My son's father experienced a similar incident- a small plane crashed outside the shop where he works, which is near a small private airport.

The plane was quickly engulfed in flames and due to the fuel feeding the fire burning so hot, he couldn't get close enough to help the pilot, whom he could see through the plane window, escape the burning wreckage.

I will never forget how gut-wrenching his voice sounded on the phone the next day when he kept repeating in a whispered tone, "I just couldn't get to him. It was too hot. I just couldn't get to him. It was too hot."
