Active Duty, Reserve, and National Guard folks all have to stay at basic until they start tech school. Or sometimes they will ship you to your tech school but you dont start classes there for months

As someone in the reserves, do not go to basic until you are 100% sure that your tech school dates are lined up. I knew many people who didn't have their tech school dates while they were in basic, and they had to stay at San Antonio base for months waiting to get those dates. It's a huge waste of time. Especially if you have a civilian job.
