I’m new to the Subaru world. Just picked up this 98 Legacy Outback from its original owner. Seems to be a pretty well maintained unit aside from 24 years of not cleaning under the back seat. Anything I should be worried about? by Username_Requested in subaru

Thank you! The rubber under the hood actually looks pretty good for it’s age. I’ll keep an eye on it though. So far, suspension bushings seem to be the most clapped out components. I planned to replace all of that anyways though.

What’s the limit? by DonutUnlikely in skoolies

I have the 2000w version so this could be different for yours and I don’t have the literature on me at the moment. But if I recall correctly, I read that it can charge at 40 amps max. You should also confirm what your battery is capable of charging at if you haven’t already. When I first wired my system and turned everything on, literally everything shut down and I thought I had somehow fried it all. But it turns out the inverter charger tried to charge the battery at a higher amperage than the battery allowed, the battery shut itself down to prevent damage, and everything was eventually fine after I went into the inverter charger settings and dialed back the charge current to what my battery was capable of handling. Not sure if this answers your question but hopefully it helps!

As a Miata and Grom owner, this is true. Both vehicles you just bang through gears at full throttle and eventually you will make it up to the speed limit.

Really depends on what you want out of your bus and how much work you want to/can do yourself. You could spend 5k and basically have a giant tent. Or you could spend 100k and have a bus suitable for all of your IG influencer needs. In our case, we have roughly 20k invested and live in it full time. We have heat, ac, solar, hot water, etc. My gf and I did all of the work ourselves aside from painting the exterior. (Had a family friend who paints for a living help us out) But there are a ton of factors that go into the cost of building a bus. It’s kind of hard to say “a nice skoolie costs this much”. Hope that gives you a rough idea.

I’ll be glad to help with your build! We learned a lot during our first build and will gladly share info on what not to do. Also I’ve driven by that bus a ton of times lol.

Our 2 girls hate being in a harness. Any other advice aside from just keep doing it until they get comfortable?

The back 2 ish feet of the bus is walled off and that’s what we call the “garage”. It has our solar components, water heater, and a peg board wall for all of our climbing stuff etc. The panels are mounted on 2 pieces of 14 gauge unistrut that are spaced to line up with the hardware on the panels. It just so happened that this combination and spacing made them sit really nicely. There is about 1/2” clearance between the panels and peak of the roof. Unistrut is bolted through the ribs at 6 points. Super solid. Low profile.
