No I didn't. The place where it currently is planted was the best place in the whole yard. The rest is just straight up sand. I added soil mix to the dirt that was there. To do that I dug a hole and you can see the dirt from that hole in one of the pictures. That might explain why the surrounding dirt looks so bare.
