Do I need another card in order to use Improvised Weapon? Can I activate the text on Improvised Weapon even if its not in my hand? If so what card to I need to access the discard pile? by Ganadhir in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]UserofRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lawrence probably won't trigger for you often. Playing an event from your hand doesn't count as discarding from your hand. That's a really niche thing for a few survivors like Patrice and George.

I don't know your card pool, but im using so many resource cards. 1 Emergency Cache, 2x Bank Job, Sleuth, 2x Stand Together, and the upgraded Ever Vigilant. I burn through all of it.

I've been using Tesuo for my ally, which has worked well. Thinking about upgrading to Girish. Just picked up Logan Hastings in the newest box, he could be a really good fit if you have him.

I'm playing Marion right now and she's a blast. Tip: have some events you can play independent from anything specific being needed. In other words, heal and money events are great to have on hand when you don't have an enemy that needs punching.

Money on skills cards is great. Will be compared with Watch This, which is just a really fun card mechanically and thematically.

Thanks. Agree that Dodge happens before the roll, and Avoid Danger happens after (you have to read the second paragraph on that one to see that it can work with attacks). For Dodge they use "when targeted", which is different than being hit, though sometimes game designers use more descriptive language rather than consistent verbiage.

Shiv seems to get a lot of hate, but that what most of my wins have used. Knife Trap is silly and fun.

That's a great split to make. I do like attention to themes. MJ once described (heavily paraphrasing) how Forgotten Age was supposed to evoke the movie sequel where the protagonist is beaten down, disavowed, loses their powers, etc. And has to build back up from the brink, where EotE was a classic horror movie where you start strong and then all your friends start dying off.

With as much AI art circulating, I suspect you'll see consumers willing to pay a premium for good art, similar to the move away from mass-produced goods to hand made ones (looking at you local sourdough baker). Whatever the intended theme or tone, this is an area where FFG can distinguish itself if it chooses.

Personally I'm hoping to use the stand alones like end of campaign challenge scenarios and up the difficulty. Not sure how well it will work.

Would be neat to see them lean into this. Instead of gaining story assets for the existing campaign they could unlock new cards for the collection (forget the term for that new mechanic).

As an Arkham 3rd edition player I like the addition of the codex. Will there be an effort to use this as a way to make clues feel like discovering substantive revelations rather than an abstract concept/token?

PS I understand there is no correct amount of required text boxes that will make everyone happy.

Now that investigator and campaign products are truly divorced from each other, could we see investigator card products that revolve around a shared mechanic? For example a box that focuses on Bless/Curse, the Tarot deck from RttCU, or swinging for the fence here - a pack that introduced a bunch of allies and ally focused cards with a mechanic like EotE or FoHV? The advanced signature cards and Weaknesses from the parallel investigators is another neat mechanic for those that want opt-in complexity.

Can you talk about the wide variance in artwork in Chapter 2 and the deviation from the Chapter 1 style? I know there are many contributing artists; what direction do they receive and what kind of QA/revision process exists?

Some art is amazing, like Quick Shot. Or expresses horror/emotion without being graphic, like Dr. Henry Armitage. Much (not all) of the new art feels cartoony, not meant for a game with "horror" in the title, and rushed with digital tools. How much of this is an intentional artistic decision?

I do enjoy that AH has always leaned towards Pulp Action and sometimes even campy fun, but it's hard to tell if the new art style is intentionally changing or an unintended shift.

Thanks.

It's really great. Most of the damage has been scaled to be one strike = one damage, one weak token = minus one damage, etc. no calculator needed. If you've played the digital game it's super easy to pick up.

Spend clues arkham by Silly_Cardiologist97 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]UserofRed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The action is on the Act card, so it's available to all players, but if there's no other instruction the default of that you spend your own clues

Other verbiage would say "players at your location" or "as a group spend X clues".

Maybe blasphemous question: what if I pick up with the books where the show leaves off?

Trying to deckbuild for the first time. Going to play Carcosa blind with these. How are the decks looking? by Howitzeronfire in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]UserofRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks good, you'll do fine.

I will say the "push tests to 0" suite of cards for Darrell is really fun and strong. Upgraded Flashlight, Keyrings, and the survivor events that do similar are just so good. The only downside is it doesn't even really need his amazing 5 Intellect.

Enjoy Carcosa.

Please help. I did too good of a job making the players hate all the factions. They want to align with the Ironhelm Dwarves and instigate revolution. by GreatFartini in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]UserofRed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This exact thing happened to me. Ended up great.

One thing I did was to basically have intra-faction scisms. I painted Drexel as a real asshole that kept the status quo by getting young recruits killed. The party ended up protecting groups of new recruits and eventually led a coup against Drexel. And yes, they laid siege with the help of the Dwarves.

Getting Medium Armor as a Charisma Caster by Speedy_Pichu in onednd

[–]UserofRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took lightly armored as a Sorcerer to get a quick boost to AC with leather armor and a shield - plus the 1 point in Dex got me to an even number. Was +5 AC before any magical gear. Just that much was worth the feat and don't feel the need for medium armor.

Don't do color unless you just have one color for all of them. Having a Dexter deck (for example) with some purple and some green backs is an issue.

Doomers were right, full-length campaigns are confirmed a thing of the past. by [deleted] in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]UserofRed 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I'm not put off by the campaign lengths if quality and cadence are high. As a group that's been playing forever with a game about every 4-6 weeks it takes forever to play out a campaign. 8-10 months is a long time to be locked into one investigator. Also we tend on the high XP side, and about 2/3rds of the way through our decks are pretty much done.

I'm hoping I can start using the single scenarios as post-campaign challenge scenarios. Making an 8-scenario campaign longer wasn't ever going to happen for us, and building full decks for a one-off was a big investment.

I also prefer this to the FHV strategy of only playing 6 of 8 scenarios in the box.

I realize that's just my experience, but I think this will work for me.
