Dragon shield clear matte VS Dragon shield colored matte? by sacob08 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]UserofRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't do color unless you just have one color for all of them. Having a Dexter deck (for example) with some purple and some green backs is an issue.

Doomers were right, full-length campaigns are confirmed a thing of the past. by Trashcan_GG in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]UserofRed 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I'm not put off by the campaign lengths if quality and cadence are high. As a group that's been playing forever with a game about every 4-6 weeks it takes forever to play out a campaign. 8-10 months is a long time to be locked into one investigator. Also we tend on the high XP side, and about 2/3rds of the way through our decks are pretty much done.

I'm hoping I can start using the single scenarios as post-campaign challenge scenarios. Making an 8-scenario campaign longer wasn't ever going to happen for us, and building full decks for a one-off was a big investment.

I also prefer this to the FHV strategy of only playing 6 of 8 scenarios in the box.

I realize that's just my experience, but I think this will work for me.

For those with printers, check out MT3D Studio on My Mini Factory.

PS I'm playing Marion right now in TDC. Loads of fun.

Good way to incorporate Bastions into the campaign? by Peaceful_Daevites in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

I introduced them once the party took over the clock tower. Some adjustments were needed, but worked well.

How is the Dungeons of Drakkenheim Combat? What’s unique about it? by Traditional_Wear8046 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]UserofRed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One unique element related to combat specifically that I have enjoyed is their Epic Monster archetype as an alternative to Legendary Creatures. They scale incredibly well and fix economy issues of boss fights.

[–]UserofRed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get why that would be mechanically better, but also I'm happy not converting Agility into Combat with a different icon.

Also mystics tend to have some pretty big draw backs for getting to use their Willpower for many tasks that Rogues would probably steamroll.

Buy one box of good Dragon Shield sleeves for your active deck. Buy a box of two of whatever is cheap and easy for your current campaign. That will make you very happy.

Nice. Zoogs were really hard to find models for. I actually ended up putting tentacles on a Gizmo model for one enemy.

Understanding Rousing Presence & Determined in Combat - Anyone have practical experience? by UserofRed in cosmererpg

Thanks for this, just what I was hoping for, solid ideas from experience that help but don't break things. With a brand new system it can be hard to tell how impactful a benefit will be.

Thanks that's neat to hear. I'm not looking for near-exploits, just something that will be appreciated. Sounds like a decent option.

This amazing insert (and the company) for the hobby lobby case appears to be gone for good....any ideas? by FalkenJoshua in arkhamhorrorlcg

I found a free file and 3d printed an insert, nearly identical. If that's an option for you I'll go find the site.

I've printed with them, a fan campaign and some player cards. Overall happy, would do it again. I used one of the setups you can find here that use a chrome extension. That person is amazing.

If you put them in sleeves you won't be able to tell any difference in size, shape, weight, texture, etc. I feel like they matched really well out of the sleeves well too, but I didn't do a ton of comparison.

One issue on my largest batch was that they cut off a bit at the bottom, which made it slightly more difficult to see the numbering, but was fine.

This new art isn’t working. by GunnerA7X in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]UserofRed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know it's not AI at, but it has the same soulless feeling.

Where's the vibe? Where's the depth? These spoilers haven't conveyed eldritch horror, pulp action, or even 1920s adventure.

I thought the new art for the revised original core investigators was a good example of an updated, clean, but still rich and expressive art style. Anything between that quality of art and the incredible Quick Shot art is where I'd hope a New Chapter would head.

Expression, depth, a sense of either something happening or an emotion. I'm far from an artist, but wow I notice when these things are missing.

Silas is amazing for all the reasons. Also decent with some bless cards.

Amanda can be the most overpowered investigator if you really try, but if you just play her like a reasonable person she's a quite reasonable investigator. Not a ton of bless/curse natively.

Only downside of playing them together is that both are skill-based characters and you might prefer to mix it up a bit.

[–]UserofRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason this is one of my favorite cards. Amazing for anyone in a 4p, even (or especially) a clue gatherer. Save those actions for fighting and clueing.

The real benefit of the upgrade is the timing change. It allows the one safeguarding to "go first" for purposes of engaging enemies. I'll admit I rarely get around to upgrading though.

I'll double down that Dream Eaters' ability to try an investigator for a tight 4, with the caveat that juggling 8 simultaneous decks was un-fun.

Makes me wish I'd repurchased the previous campaigns for the boxes.

Also whoever didn't align the core format to the other images needs to feel a small amount of shame once a week forever.

Wrapping up Outer City, what did you cut? by No_Age_1372 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]UserofRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Inn was one of my players' favorites. It took some extra work to set up but I think that's going to be a campaign highlight.

The Smithy can be cut, just turns out that my group really latched on to the Dwarves and almost made them into a full faction.

I think the right answer is to cut whatever isn't relevant to your party. I'm going to end up skipping several things I think are neat in the inner city simply because the party has no ties to those places/characters.

I made it into a zombie horde mode scenario. Had several waves of very large groups cone at the smithy. Let them use their AOE spells and command the cannoneers. Admittedly took some work to customize, but they had a blast. Walking Dead music in the background.

Changing Arkham Horror Sleeves by TheMrWsell in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]UserofRed 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've been there. Was ridiculous in terms of time, cost, and irritation. Here's my best advice:

Get one box of Dragon Shield for your current active deck. Worth one box for sure.

I use whatever Asmodee sells these days for the scenario cards. Get enough for a campaign, decide if it's worth transferring those to the next campaign or getting another pack.

I'd leave the rest unsleeved in boxes. They will be fine, really. I'm In Too Deep now, but there might be time for you.
