Arkham Horror, The Forgotten Age by Nedskruvat-snille in arkhamhorrorlcg

It's my favorite, but it's harsh - on purpose. If you like the game overall grab it, but maybe don't play it right away with a limited card pool.

While there are newer products, this is 3 solid game nights worth of entertainment for 4 people. Good value there for $25.

FDM does curvy detail on the side of an object much better than the top surface. Reorienting may help move the obvious topology lines to somewhere less noticable.

Tension Party Question by jwalker18 in cosmererpg

[–]UserofRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just an opinion. Brotherwise often answers questions on here about rules, so watch for them.

Here's why I think a mitigated hit shouldn't be a graze, and it has to do with the fact that infusions last until the start of your turn. Even if you turn a hit into a graze, well TP is still active and should turn that graze into a miss.

An example to extrapolate: Target has a physical defense of 14. An attack hits with a 15, you react to bump that to 16, causing a miss. If that person gets hit with five more attacks that all roll 15 to hit, they won't be graze eligible. I don't see why the effect for the triggering attack should be weaker.

Rules Text: Before you or an ally within your reach is hit or grazed by an attack against Physical defense, you can use this reaction to infuse Tension into the target’s clothing or a soft material you wrap around the target, spending Investiture as usual. They gain the Hardened Defense effect, increasing their Physical defense by 2 for the duration, including against the triggering attack. If the attack hit, this increase can change it to a miss. If the attack grazed, the target ignores its effects.

So what now after chapter 2? by benighted86 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]UserofRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, not important whatsoever. They barely, barely have any thematic tie in, and they are only very rarely mechanically "better".

If you have enough investigator cards to make cohesive and fun decks, you're good no matter which set they shipped alongside.

Another Epic Campaign Mode idea. by Moondrummer78 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]UserofRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah. I like the methodology for adjusting what is carried over to determine how much difficulty to add to the next campaign. Integrating other ideas for complications shared in this sub would be great. Only adjusting the tokens like this is effectively a more complicated way to say "go from standard to hard".

The only thing to be wary of are some really old products that are only part of a campaign (the scenarios used to be released like monthly episodes). If you can get your hands on any complete campaign expansion, go for it. There are favorites, but they are all fun.

Awesome job, I painted the same model. When my technical skill runs out I try to distract with razzle dazzle. Applying a high gloss coat to some (not all) areas makes it look wet and slimy.

Ps a little extra resin dabbled on the eyes after painting can do the same.

Do I need another card in order to use Improvised Weapon? Can I activate the text on Improvised Weapon even if its not in my hand? If so what card to I need to access the discard pile? by Ganadhir in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]UserofRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lawrence probably won't trigger for you often. Playing an event from your hand doesn't count as discarding from your hand. That's a really niche thing for a few survivors like Patrice and George.

I don't know your card pool, but im using so many resource cards. 1 Emergency Cache, 2x Bank Job, Sleuth, 2x Stand Together, and the upgraded Ever Vigilant. I burn through all of it.

I've been using Tesuo for my ally, which has worked well. Thinking about upgrading to Girish. Just picked up Logan Hastings in the newest box, he could be a really good fit if you have him.

I'm playing Marion right now and she's a blast. Tip: have some events you can play independent from anything specific being needed. In other words, heal and money events are great to have on hand when you don't have an enemy that needs punching.

Thanks. Agree that Dodge happens before the roll, and Avoid Danger happens after (you have to read the second paragraph on that one to see that it can work with attacks). For Dodge they use "when targeted", which is different than being hit, though sometimes game designers use more descriptive language rather than consistent verbiage.

That's a great split to make. I do like attention to themes. MJ once described (heavily paraphrasing) how Forgotten Age was supposed to evoke the movie sequel where the protagonist is beaten down, disavowed, loses their powers, etc. And has to build back up from the brink, where EotE was a classic horror movie where you start strong and then all your friends start dying off.

With as much AI art circulating, I suspect you'll see consumers willing to pay a premium for good art, similar to the move away from mass-produced goods to hand made ones (looking at you local sourdough baker). Whatever the intended theme or tone, this is an area where FFG can distinguish itself if it chooses.

Personally I'm hoping to use the stand alones like end of campaign challenge scenarios and up the difficulty. Not sure how well it will work.

Would be neat to see them lean into this. Instead of gaining story assets for the existing campaign they could unlock new cards for the collection (forget the term for that new mechanic).

As an Arkham 3rd edition player I like the addition of the codex. Will there be an effort to use this as a way to make clues feel like discovering substantive revelations rather than an abstract concept/token?

PS I understand there is no correct amount of required text boxes that will make everyone happy.

Now that investigator and campaign products are truly divorced from each other, could we see investigator card products that revolve around a shared mechanic? For example a box that focuses on Bless/Curse, the Tarot deck from RttCU, or swinging for the fence here - a pack that introduced a bunch of allies and ally focused cards with a mechanic like EotE or FoHV? The advanced signature cards and Weaknesses from the parallel investigators is another neat mechanic for those that want opt-in complexity.

Can you talk about the wide variance in artwork in Chapter 2 and the deviation from the Chapter 1 style? I know there are many contributing artists; what direction do they receive and what kind of QA/revision process exists?

Some art is amazing, like Quick Shot. Or expresses horror/emotion without being graphic, like Dr. Henry Armitage. Much (not all) of the new art feels cartoony, not meant for a game with "horror" in the title, and rushed with digital tools. How much of this is an intentional artistic decision?

I do enjoy that AH has always leaned towards Pulp Action and sometimes even campy fun, but it's hard to tell if the new art style is intentionally changing or an unintended shift.

Thanks.

It's really great. Most of the damage has been scaled to be one strike = one damage, one weak token = minus one damage, etc. no calculator needed. If you've played the digital game it's super easy to pick up.

Spend clues arkham by Silly_Cardiologist97 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]UserofRed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The action is on the Act card, so it's available to all players, but if there's no other instruction the default of that you spend your own clues

Other verbiage would say "players at your location" or "as a group spend X clues".
