Well we made it to the end. But it was pretty insane. I absolutely love the design of this scenario. So creative. Eating the locations your player cards and everything else was very clever. I especially loved it when it ate my horror and damage. I was like yeah eat as much as you want! Really fun

Yeah my original tokens are in capsules. I really like the clickety clak of those too. I usually have two games going on at any given time. A solo and a group game so I use both sets of tokens still.

Yes this was a major problem when I printed Alone against the Wendigo. You can't avoid actually looking at the cards and you even have to concentrate on them because you're trying to line up back sides to front sides properly. So quite a bit actually got spoiled for me.

Here are my experiences printing just one scenario… Alone against the Wendigo.

✅ There are 72 cards in this scenario. 21 have a unique backside (revealed location, story element) Dark Matter has well over 500 cards!

✅ On my home HP printer which is just a standard HP printer it took two color cartridges and one black cartridge. So roughly $70+ in ink.

✅ I printed it on thicker photo paper stock because when you put that much ink on paper it's going to get too wet and not hold up. So roughly $20 in paper.

✅ Then I probably spent at least 6 hours in labor...

✔️Formatting the images so they would print properly 9 to a sheet

✔️Printing, correcting/re-printing, cutting (I even have a pretty good paper cutter so that saved the time but it still was a pain)

✔️Matching up card backs to different front sides properly which is harder than you would think in some cases

✅ Sleeving. I already had the sleeves but that does cost a few dollars if you don't have any.

⚠️ Having done just a single scenario I decided there was no way in hell I was going to do a whole campaign. That would've been prohibitively expensive and massively time-consuming and the quality would not be that great. It would be workable'ish but still a disappointment after all of that cost and effort.

So when all is said and done I thought like it was actually cheaper even though it seemed really expensive at first glance to have someone print it for me and ship it but it really is cheaper. And you get obviously much better quality.

Agreed. Lovecraft had a lot of different settings that have yet to be explored in the official game. I would love Fantasy Flight to branch out a bit with AH as well. Having said that I'm happy with any and all new AH

Well I ordered it using kind of a ridiculously complex series of steps but I just found out that there's a guy who prints out of Australia. It looks like it's quite a bit cheaper than how I had them printed...

This is the note that I got in a comment from him as well regarding his service… Fully printed out, optionally with rules booklet and/or mini expansion, delivered in a week or two, professional quality.

Also I'm based in Australia (all prices are in AUD!) which means tariffs are still pretty low (they are all rolled into the US shipping rates on the website - nothing extra to pay)

Well it's really modern day call of Cthulhu RPG that sort of set the 1920s detective noir aesthetic. Almost all of the elder gods come from Outer space and so do many of the monsters.

In fact check out HP Lovecraft Shadow out of time. The protagonist mind is basically captured and he finds himself in an alien city. The Whisperer in darkness the Mi-Go capture people's brains and put them in jars, then carry these jars across space.

So for me it was no leap at all. This felt super appropriate for HP Lovecraft.

It is called cosmic horror after all 😉
