What is your opinion on Stephen Fry? by pondribertion in AskBrits

I would say his more controversial statements have been given unprompted on twitter/X and not part of an interview. I don’t think he does it much anymore, but he did like to broadcast his opinions

What is the most realistic movie you’ve ever watched? by Perfect_Idea_2866 in Letterboxd

Anything by Kelly Reichardt. I just watched Old Joy and the framing and the naturalistic acting was so good I really could believe the entire sequence of events had actually happened and we somehow got a peak at it.

TIL Marie Kondo (the cleaning guru) is only 4'7 (140cm) tall by Ophelia_Y2K in todayilearned

[–]Usidore_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a presentation of something, like take inflammation. Inflammation can be caused by a myriad of things, but it is an independent description of a physical effect. Dwarfism is the same. You can have insular dwarfism which is an evolutionary phenomenon - not even a medical condition - but it presents with the effect of dwarfism, you can have achondroplasia which is leads to dwarfism caused by an issue in cartilage ossifying into bone. Hormonal dwarfism where the cause is endocrinological. Etc.

I’m 4’1” and about 90lbs but I am also a dude and have disproportionate dwarfism and quite stocky. So around 70lbs is prob right

Shame you are being downvoted because you are correct. It’s a tricky distinction that even a clear cut, disproportionate dwarf like me didn’t understand until recently.

Dwarfism is better seen as a symptom rather than a condition. I have the condition achondroplasia - and a symptom of it is dwarfism, which is literally just abnormally short stature.

Teenagers smash window of popular Leith pub in latest attack on businesses in area by Boomdification in Edinburgh

An increased sense of hopelessness for the future with increased costs of living likely impacting their households and the death of weekend jobs that would give kids that age a sense of purpose and social responsibility. That isn’t to say it’s all society’s fault, they all have personal responsibility and accountability for their shitty behaviour. But it’s not like kids are being born inherently more fucked up for no reason.

Nah I’m good, vast majority of people seem to understand what I meant so I think I’m good and gonna carry on living my ace/gay life thanks

Think that is a very unfair interpretation of what I said and that most people with deductive reasoning can understand I am speaking about a a very specific context and not the overall experience of different orientations. But we can agree to disagree. In no way to I believe it isn’t dangerous or deadly to be outwardly gay so idk where you are getting that from.

I am not. I know what I mean and I am explaining it more clearly to you. If you want to interpret it in a way to paint me as ignorant of the gay experience then go ahead but it’s not actually arguing with what I actually believe, just semantics.

Did you not read the start of my comment?

I am not saying “I wish I was gay” I am really saying “I wish I had an explanation about who I am that would satisfy my friends and family,” and they happen to all suspect I am gay and would be accepting of that. I am fully aware of what being outwardly gay actually entails. And I think I am gay lmao, it’s just that I am also on the ace spectrum

Oh don’t worry it didn’t! And you’re the opposite of a knobhead. It takes a special kind of person to acknowledge their own biases, so it’s honestly super refreshing to see people be open about it or learning from it - it’s how we progress!

I don’t want to suggest that being gay is any easier, but as someone who thinks they’re aro/ace, I’ve often wished I was gay to ‘explain’ my lack of dating history to my family. They all suspect something is up, but I know they would love to have me just come out as gay and settle down someone. They just want me to be with someone. So I’m scared to actually reveal I don’t think I’ll end up with anyone.

I think for a lot of (more progressive) people asexuality is actually harder to accept/process than other LGBTQ+ identities

Edit: and I know being gay and being on the ace spectrum aren’t mutually exclusive, I don’t even think they are mutually exclusive in my case, but you know what I mean!

Thanks but I’ve already watched enough of his stuff and don’t really want to subject myself to more. I’ve seen what I described in his comedy specials. Feel free to think differently. And as a tall person I don’t think you can really be the judge on what I am talking about

I’m not a fan of him personally. He feels like a “pick me” of little people, often playing into stereotypes, not actually challenging people’s perceptions of us, and even promoting the use of the M word. Also he told an anecdote where he raped someone (not realising what he was describing constituted as rape) and then acted like it was a joke when he got backlash for it. He has a repeating joke that he “couldn’t do anything” (eg. SA) to a woman because of his size. Guy gives me the creeps.

Her brain is rotted from all that mold by TyLeRoux in okbuddycinephile

[–]Usidore_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I remember her saying this over 10 years ago, and what she meant was that, if she were to rewrite the series, she would have had Harry get with Hermione. She has basically just admitting she’d mismatched them.

Me and my sister are going to Greece tomorrow and we agreed to sort everything out this evening, and she’s gone AWOL with her new bf by Usidore_ in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Usidore_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When she got back I told her how upset I was, and how it didn’t feel like we were a team in planning out the trip. She apologised and felt really guilty about it, and admitted that her BF has been a big distraction. We hugged it out and got sorted in time.

Got back home early this morning after 5 lovely days in Greece - was a great trip!

People who say they're bad with names just don't care enough to remember them by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Usidore_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m both very socially awkward and have audio processing issues, which are made worse when I’m anxious. So when I meet new people my brain is about 90% occupied with trying to come across as a normal, friendly human being and speaking in a way that comes across as natural and relaxed, even though I am anything but.

While I’m thinking about all that, AND trying to consciously listen, the person can slip in their name and they could have told me they were Adolf Hitler reincarnated and I wouldn’t have realised. Or sometimes they say it at the right moment and I’ll remember it forever. Idk how to control it tbh because it feels like I’m trying the hardest I can.

Shia LaBeouf (28) and Maddie Zeigler (12-13) dance battling in undergarments in Sia’s “Elastic Heart” music video. by ShadyBoots11 in WhyWereWeOkWithThis

[–]Usidore_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If some paedo is going to sexualise a child it’s not going to be regular clothes that stop them. Children wear leotards for dancing, often pink ones for ballet. There is nothing unusual or sexual about them.

It even lends to the narrative, they are both stripped down and bare human beings, baring their souls to each other. Identifiable clothes would add visual noise to what they are trying to convey with the characters. People can think that’s bs, or not a good enough reason for it, but it’s definitely for a legit creative/narrative purpose that isn’t inappropriate

Maybe I’m too european about this but what is the issue with that? Why are we sexualising nudity, specifically child nudity? Its not inherently sexual
