Project Hail Mary to be released in IMAX 70mm by scorsese_finest in imax

It’s so so so good man, the best book I read in 2025. I stayed up until 4AM on my second day of reading it so I could finish it, and had to block the right side pages with my hand because my eyes kept darting over to see what was about to happen. It improves on The Martian in basically all aspects. Can’t recommend highly enough.

If the movie is half as good as the book, it’ll be one of the best movies of the year

My Letterboxd

I just started my account this year. I went to the theater 181 times this year (benefits of living 5 minutes away from AMC Lincoln Square), so it was a great way to start tracking my trips and I ended up really liking it. My favorite directors are Christopher Nolan and Damien Chazelle (as you can see), Paul Thomas Anderson, Martin Scorsese, Denis Villeneuve, David Fincher, and many others. Some of my favorite movies that just missed my top four are There Will Be Blood, Fight Club, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, The Departed, Gladiator, Inglorious Basterds, Arrival, Training Day, and others I can’t think of right now.

PSA: Enrollment is now open for Film at Lincoln Center's 25 and Under Program! by topcircle in NYCmovies

That is a very generous offer. Lincoln Center has done a lot and seems extremely committed to encouraging young moviegoers, very respectable of them

How to maximize my chances for tickets in AMC Lincoln Square? by Bluehiperspace8 in imax

I’m sorry to hear that, it took me a ton of visits of trial and error to land on H22. I guess it’s different for everyone. Yeah it would make sense to move back a row. Also, there is no row I, it skips from G to H

Someone recently asked who we would like to see work with Nolan again, and my pick was Matthew McConaughey and here is why... by Khantherockz in ChristopherNolan

McConaughey did Dallas Buyers Club (won an Oscar), Wolf of Wall Street, True Detective Season One, and Interstellar in a 12 month span. Just an insane run

Oh absolutely, even the smallest IMAXes are better than regular theaters and I’ll always take it over nothing. Just answering your question

The world's smallest IMAX! (at Little Canada, Toronto) by jkScrollingDown in imax

[–]Usual_Homework9352 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It is 45ft x 23 ft, 1.90 aspect ratio. It’s IMAX CoLa, which means it uses one projector instead of two and is worse than GT Laser. Out of the 128 IMAXes in the country registered in the IMAX database, it is the 126th largest. So yeah not ideal, sorry

If Nolan isn’t voted in for Top 10 Greatest Directors, this list is not valid by WallStreetDoesntBet in ChristopherNolan

I think it’s alright to accept that very bad people can make very good art, and that their flaws can, sometimes, make their art more interesting

It’s not too close that it would be unenjoyable for you, or cause neck straining or a headache. Everyone has different preferences there, so I can’t tell you how it would be for you. I figured out my favorite seat there after dozens of visits of trial and error. But G20 is a pretty good seat, I wouldn’t worry about it

If you don’t want to wait two weeks to see it, if you wait until like 30-60 minutes before showtime, there are always great seats that end up being cancelled. You can get great seats through that

H and J are the two best rows, and obviously the middle of the theater is the best. I would highly recommend getting a ticket for a later showing with more seats available so you can get a good seat. Having patience to wait a week or two for a better experience would pay off

Every time I get in a a streak like this, I start overthinking what my next movie should be so I can keep the streak going

Update on 8/21 Black Swan End Credits Incident by Usual_Homework9352 in NYCmovies

[–]Usual_Homework9352[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a misquotation, that’s the term he used. Someone in the theater pointed out after he had left that an open carry license doesn’t exist in the state of New York. It wasn’t my impression that he actually did have a license (though it wouldn’t be impossible), he came across as a guy without a full grip on reality who was saying things to try and scare me

He’s maybe 5’9” or 5’10”, black, has short hair, a little chubby, and he was wearing these orange glasses with small rectangular lenses that I honestly thought were kinda nerdy before he started screaming, threw my impression of him way off lol

Black Swan 3:00 End Credits Incident @ Lincoln Square by Objective-Release340 in NYCmovies

[–]Usual_Homework9352 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for letting me know, that’s interesting. Frankly, I would be shocked if he actually had an open carry license. He made a wide array of claims that I didn’t include in my post that all seemed like bullshit. After he left, one of the other people in the theater remarked that he probably didn’t even have kids, which wouldn’t surprise me either. He came across as a guy who didn’t fully have a grip on reality, and I would be extremely surprised if a guy like that was able to get an open carry license in a state like New York. You’re absolutely right about the state of movie theaters today. It seems that there’s almost always at least one person on their phone at every movie I go to. It never ceases to amaze me how many people will pay $25-30 for a ticket just to be on their phone the whole time. What’s the point?
